The National Institute for African Studies (NIAS) is a London-based think tank that provides objective information on African affairs, looking to appoint a Research & Publishing Intern within its office in South West, London. Our main publication, The Saharan is an interdisciplinary journal published by NIAS aimed at exploring the dynamic relationship between culture and development in Africa/UK.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

- Support the editors in the sourcing & production of blog and journal publications

- Checking material for completeness, copy-edit and check appropriate non-technical material such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter updates

- Generate, check and correct files with names, contact information, number of articles, review assessments, and consent forms.

- Serve as a custodian of approved originals of all documentation produced for The Saharan journal

- Use NIAS LinkedIn account to connect to academics and groups to promote the journal, acquire papers, and attract skilled scholars to become reviewers

- Coordinate the publication flow of the journal and all stages of the editorial processes upon the release of each issue

- Review and adjust publications according to the style of the journal, ensuring the correct usage of references and plagiarism checking

- Update wordpress website and a range of social media accounts with news, updates and promotions

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST:

- Have a minimum of undergraduate degree

- Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications

- Good knowledge of wordpress, crm, social media tools

- Demonstrate excellent editorial and administrative skills together with high attention to detail

- Ability to work under pressure to tight schedules and deadlines

The Branch Chair role is vital to the running of the branch as they act as a leader and a coordinator for the branch. Without these roles, we would not have as many branches as we do.

What you will be doing

• Planning, arranging, and chairing committee meetings and public meetings.
• Along with other committee members, representing the branch at external meetings e.g. with local services for autistic people.
• Delegating tasks to other committee members or volunteers
• Raising the profile of the NAS within your branch and local community.

Stepping Stones Learning and Leisure is a small, friendly charity based in Southwark, providing inclusive activities for adults with learning disabilities. We’re currently looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Social Club Volunteer to support our weekly Thursday sessions (10.30-12.30). We are based at St Faith’s Centre, Red Post Hill, SE24 9JQ (close to North Dulwich and Herne Hill stations) however this role requires the ability to travel to other locations in the borough of Southwark. Next term we will be visiting a local inclusive cycling organisation at Herne Hill Velodrome and we are looking for people who would be willing to participate alongside our learners.

In Social Club you’ll support our tutor in encouraging learners to participate in a variety of fun activities which aim to nurture the supportive relationships between our learners and enhance their wellbeing, joy and sense of belonging.

Experience Qualification and Requirements

Essential experience

• Background in social care, youth work, education, community services, mental health, or survivor-support environments with sensitive disclosures.
• Experience moderating online communities or managing safety in digital spaces, particularly those involving vulnerable or at-risk groups.
• Proven ability to identify risk, assess severity, and respond appropriately, including recognising when immediate escalation is required.
• Experience handling incidents and maintaining clear, factual documentation and records in line with safeguarding expectations.
• Experience contributing to or applying safeguarding policies, protocols, or guidance in real-world settings.

Essential skills

• Strong understanding of safeguarding principles, boundaries, confidentiality, and safe handling of disclosures.

Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties

• Develop, implement, and maintain clear moderation and safeguarding frameworks that are trauma-informed, practical, and consistently applied across all CIC platforms.
• Monitor all community spaces to identify harmful or abusive behaviour, boundary violations, and high-risk disclosures involving children, survivors, or vulnerable adults.
• Take timely moderation action in line with protocols, including content removal, access restrictions, warnings, or escalation to safeguarding leads.
• Escalate safeguarding incidents promptly and accurately in accordance with CIC procedures, prioritising cases involving immediate or serious risk.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records of incidents, actions taken, outcomes, and follow-ups to ensure accountability and audit readiness.
• Support a safe and respectful community culture by reinforcing behaviour standards, tone-of-voice guidance, and survivor-centred practices.
• Train and support volunteers in trauma-informed moderation, safeguarding awareness, confidentiality, and correct escalation pathways.
• Review incident trends and recurring risks, recommending improvements to moderation systems, guidance, and preventative controls.
• Liaise closely with Social Media Engagement Officers, Campaign Managers, and Membership & Community Directors to ensure joined-up safeguarding practice.

Role Description

The Press/Media Manager will work closely with the Communication Officer to lead on the Pagan Federation's media strategy. You will act as a primary point of contact for journalists, broadcasters, and media outlets working to promote positive coverage of Paganism and to respond appropriately to media interest, engaging in both proactive and reactive.

You will develop and oversee press strategies, prepare statements and press releases, brief spokespersons, and assist the organisation in sensitive communications where required. As this is a council-level role within the Pagan Federation you will be expected to provide regular reports to the Communications Officer and the Council of the Pagan Federation.

This is a voluntary role, and volunteers are expected to work remotely. We have volunteers working across England and Wales. Some travel may be necessary, reasonable expenses will be covered in line with our expenses policy.

Qualifications

• At least two years experience in the field of Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or similar. (Essential)
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy in media engagement. (Essential)

Cardinal Hume Centre is looking for two new trustees to help break the cycle of homelessness for children, young people and families.

Based in Westminster, we support more than 1,400 children, young people and families each year who are facing homelessness and poverty. Through personalised, wraparound services, we work alongside people to build stability, confidence and the foundations for longterm independence — tackling homelessness now to prevent it in the future. 

We are recruiting for two complementary trustee roles: 

• A trustee with lived experience. 
  We are looking for another trustee whose personal experience of challenges such as homelessness or insecure housing, migration, poverty or longterm unemployment can help ground our decisions in what truly works. Your insight will strengthen the voice of past, present and future clients at Board level and help us become a more inclusive, responsive organisation. 

• A trustee with senior estates, building or facilities expertise. 
  The Centre owns a large site in central London and is developing a longterm vision for how it can best support our mission over the next 10–15 years. We are seeking someone who can guide, support and challenge our thinking as we plan for the future of our buildings and facilities.

The Wellbeing Officer (Trustee) provides information, guidance and advice to volunteers and service users around topics such as mental health and wellbeing. Additionally, if service users or volunteers have any concerns, the best point of contact is the wellbeing officer.

What do we specifically expect of this role?

● Delivery of a plan to proactively assist officers and volunteers in public-facing roles, with tools and techniques to prevent or reduce any initial harm/trauma from purposeful or accidental harmful interactions - social media, live events, outreach, panel events, etc.

● Providing support for service users by way of triaging and responding to requests that come through to the wellbeing inbox. ● Building and maintaining wellbeing resources for service users and following a data-informed approach as to areas of wellbeing improvement. This includes building relationships with external service providers that can assist in helping members of our community.

How much commitment is required?

We are flexible around your own schedule. However, the following commitments are in place for all member of the Hidayah board:

● To be able to attend all Trustee meetings and to deliver a comprehensive report to the committee each meeting with updates and to completed actions as and when they appear;

● To aim to attend all other planning meetings as necessary when close to Hidayah events as well as the events themselves (where possible due to geography);

● To help to fundraise for, and advertise, any Hidayah events and fundraising drives;

● To be part of a communications group to keep up to date with Hidayah developments;

The BFWG Charitable Foundation, an educational charity that supports the advancement of women graduates through postgraduate grants, is seeking to appoint up to two Trustees, including a Chair, to join its Board.

Trustees

As the terms of office for two trustees come to an end, FfWG is seeking to appoint two Trustees to join its board. With the current Chair’s term ending in July this year, FfWG is looking to appoint a new Chair. If necessary, a current trustee has agreed to act as interim Chair for one year and to mentor a new trustee, enabling them to feel confident in stepping into the Chair role after a year.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for people who share our commitment to supporting women in higher education.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds, but we’d be particularly interested in those with experience in any of the following:

Working with non-profit organisations

Working in Higher Education or recent experience of completing a PhD.

Fundraising – particularly working with high-net-worth individuals. We’d love to grow the size of our investment to enable us to support more women.

Expected time commitment:

Attendance at quarterly Board meetings. The February and September board meetings are held online, the May and November ones are in-person (held on a workday during the day (11am – 1pm) in central London).

Occasional committee or working group participation where relevant

Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term, with the option of renewal for a further three years

Expenses:

The Trustee role is voluntary, with reasonable expenses reimbursed. FfWG reimburses the cost of travel to attend its twice yearly in-person board meetings in London but does not reimburse overnight accommodation.

About BFWG Charitable Foundation

(Trading as Funds for Women Graduates (FfWG))

Funds for Women Graduates (FfWG) is an educational charity whose objective is promoting the higher education and wider learning of women graduates. We do this by awarding grants to assist with the living expenses of women postgraduate students, typically in the final year of work towards a PhD or equivalent degree.

BACKGROUND OF FfWG

FfWG is the trading name of the BFWG Charitable Foundation. It was originally incorporated in 1925 as the Crosby Hall Association Limited. It changed its name to BFWG Charitable Foundation in 1993. It became a registered charity in 1971. In 2025, the Charity converted to a CIO. 

Although FfWG has been awarding grants since 1993 this was not its original purpose. Its original objective was to run a hall of residence, Crosby Hall, on behalf of its parent company the British Federation of Women Graduates (BFWG). This it did until 1992. Crosby Hall was sold, and the money raised by the sale of the lease has been invested. The proceeds provide funds to offer grants to women graduate scholars.

GRANT MAKING

FfWG offers grants to women graduates to help with their living expenses, but not fees, while registered for study or research at an approved institution of higher education in Great Britain. The criteria for awarding grants are the proven needs of the applicants and their academic calibre.

The first grant was awarded in 1993. Since then, well over two thousand grants have been made to women in need who aspire to help themselves and others by completing higher degrees covering a wide range of subjects. FfWG not only helps women from Great Britain but also women from all over the world who come to study or undertake research in Great Britain. Geographically FfWG covers England, Wales and Scotland. This is historic and is because the Irish Federation of University Women works across the whole of Ireland.

The two main types of grants offered by FfWG are Foundation Grants and Emergency Grants. Foundation Grants are offered to women graduates in their final year of a PhD or DPhil. Emergency Grants are offered to women postgraduates who face unforeseen financial crises whilst engaged in study or research.

In addition to the Foundation and Emergency Grants, approximately every third year FfWG provides the funds to Graduate Women International (GWI) to offer a fellowship, the value of this is £6,000. It is known as the FfWG Fellowship.

Up to two Theodora Bosanquet Bursaries are offered annually to women graduates whose research in History or English Literature requires a short residency in London in the summer.

Promote Inspiring Adventures

• Generate interest and excitement through social media, community outreach, and personal networks.
• Encourage registrations, and later fundraising, by sharing the purpose and impact of Adventures for Animals and the work of IAPWA.

Host and Represent on Trips

• Act as the official Adventure Ambassador on each trip, representing Adventures for Animals and IAPWA.
• Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive group environment.
• Support participants throughout the journey to help ensure a smooth and memorable experience.

• Once a trip reaches an agreed capacity, you will secure a free place on the expedition.
• At the next agreed benchmark, you will receive free return flights for the adventure.
• At full capacity, you will also then receive a generous trip allowance.
