Purpose of the Role
The Communications & Engagement Officer is a key role within Breaking Barriers’ Income and Engagement Directorate. It helps refugees find meaningful employment through communications and fundraising activities that maintain and grow relationships with partners, funders, supporters and relevant influential organisations and individuals.
The post holder reports to the Senior Communications Manager, and works closely with the Head of Public Engagement, Senior Digital Marketing Manager and Fundraising & Partnerships Officer. They also lead or participate in activities involving colleagues across Breaking Barriers’ teams and our refugee clients.
This role contributes to the implementation of our communications, engagement and fundraising strategies, and is closely involved in team planning – including input into operational plans and communications campaigns to steward and inspire key audiences.
The Communications & Engagement Officer is responsible for the planning and creation of day-to-day communications across our owned channels, with a particular focus on social media. They are also responsible for managing social media interactions and outreach, and for creating selected content for Breaking Barriers’ website.
The post holder helps the Senior Communications Manager to ensure that organisational content complies with brand guidelines. And they play a key role in data management – maintaining our multi-media asset bank and the storytelling data within our Salesforce CRM.
This role will suit a team player who is able to build strong relationships across Breaking Barriers to support content creation, ethical storytelling and impact. The post-holder should be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, solution-focused and creative, whilst having a good eye for detail. And, of course, they should have a passion for stewarding, inspiring and mobilising audiences through high-quality, engaging communications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Communications planning and delivery (60%)
· Work with the Senior Communications Manager to manage the communications calendar.
· Collaborate with colleagues across Breaking Barriers, especially the Income & Engagement and Services teams, to source content that reaches, engages, stewards our key audiences – including partners, funders and individual supporters.
· Plan, create and schedule written and multi-media (graphics, videos, photos) content on social media platforms.
· Plan and create or coordinate longer-form content, including case studies, articles and blogs.

The Communications and Engagement Officer will play a key role in delivering this new project, a major two-year exhibition project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The role will involve the coordination and promotion of a community activity programme to reflect the objects and themes in the two main exhibitions ‘Iron Age Farmsteads’ and ‘Shaping Britain: the influences of European Cultures on Prehistoric Britain.’
The post-holder will help to design, deliver and promote an inclusive community programme that connects new audiences with Prehistoric Britain through creative, hands-on activities and interpretation of the planned exhibitions, working closely with the Assistant Curator to create partnerships with local cultural organisations and recruit visitor experience volunteers. The post will involve working weekends and some bank holidays.

As Operations Manager (OM), you’ll lead safe, high‑quality services, guide a committed frontline team, ensure compliance, strengthen partnerships, and drive performance across all operations; keeping our work moving from outreach and hotspot engagement to groups, community stalls, and the everyday moments where trust is built. As part of BUBIC’s commitment to meeting people where they are, the post holder will also share night‑outreach duties with the Team Leader, working one evening per week (5pm-midnight, typically Wednesday or Friday) to reach those most visible and vulnerable at night, enabling early intervention, safer engagement, and stronger pathways into support. Business Development Contribution
The OM strengthens partnerships, supports funding strategy, provides operational evidence for bids, and contributes to growth initiatives such as pop-up BUBIC models and harm reduction bus feasibility.
Staff Development
The OM leads one to ones for the core staff and team leader, providing reflective practice, training, and wellbeing activities, and supports workforce planning aligned to strategic priorities.
Service Development
The OM oversees safe, high-quality delivery of outreach, groups, dual diagnosis support, Gateway training, and pilots’ new services including outings, life-skills programmes, and community presence initiatives.
Governance & Profile
Working with the CEO, the OM ensures oversight of compliance, safeguarding, GDPR, reporting to Board and sub-groups, and contributes to annual accounts, supports AGM delivery, and strengthens organisational visibility through external representation

Youth Mentor / Regional Team Lead (we call it Senior Programme Coordinator)

What you’ll be doing
As Senior Programme Coordinator, you'll help make sure that support reaches as many young people as possible and that it's delivered to a consistently high standard.
You'll lead a small team of sports coaches and youth mentors, helping them plan great sessions, develop their practice and overcome the day-to-day challenges that come with the job. You'll also build and maintain strong relationships with schools, alternative provisions and community partners to keep programmes running smoothly.
This is a hands-on role. Alongside keeping regional delivery on track, you'll still spend time working directly with young people: being a positive presence, modelling good practice and helping create the kind of safe, engaging environments where young people can thrive.
You'll also take the lead on the activities that go beyond our weekly sessions such as organising holiday programmes, Career Taster Days, regional trips and events that give young people experiences they wouldn't otherwise have. These are some of the most rewarding parts of the role and a real chance to see young people shine in a different context.
Building relationships in the community is a big part of this too. You'll get to know the local area, embed yourself in the networks around it and find partners, venues and opportunities that help deepen out work and enhance our engagement with young people.

Clinical Research Manager
The Clinical Research Manager will play a key role in advancing ARUK’s drug prioritisation activities as part of the Clinical Accelerator Programme. Working closely with the Senior Clinical Research Manager, this role will drive the identification, evaluation, and progression of high-potential drug candidates toward clinical trials, delivering tangible impact for people affected by dementia.
This role is vital in advancing Alzheimer’s Research UK’s research objectives and organisational strategy and will be key to delivering impact for people affected by dementia. The Clinical Research Manager will manage the planning and delivery of ARUK’s drug prioritisation activities working collaboratively with external stakeholders and various departments across the organisation, including the wider Research, Fundraising and Policy, Communications and Involvement Teams to develop the programme and ensure successful delivery and measurable impact.
This role sits within the Clinical Research team in the Research Directorate, an ambitious, proactive and growing team that is driving forward initiatives to bring more clinical trials to the UK for people living with or likely to develop dementia. With the first generation of disease modifying treatments recently approved, this is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with strong research experience who understands the clinical research environment in the UK, to contribute to groundbreaking work in dementia research, aligning with and advancing on the Government's new investment initiatives in the Dame Barbara Windsor Dementia Goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. ARUK Drug Prioritisation Programme Delivery and Development
· Lead on the identification of therapies with the potential to be prioritised for clinical trials in Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia through literature search and communication with the clinical research community and key external partners, with support from the Senior Clinical Research Manager.
· Lead the development and drafting of high-quality scientific dossiers that directly inform prioritisation decisions and progression of drug candidates.
· Lead the translation of recommendations from external advisory panels into actionable next steps.
· Work with the Senior Clinical Research Manager and the Senior Clinical Programmes Operations Officer to plan drug prioritisation activities, including meeting logistics, panel engagement, feedback and to track and evaluate progress.
· Identify, evaluate, and drive forward high-impact opportunities for drug prioritisation and clinical development in consultation with Partnerships, Evidence and Funding teams.
· Design and embed scalable processes to proactively monitor the global drug development landscape, utilising databases, conference intelligence, and literature to curate a dynamic intelligence log that tracks therapeutic candidates, development progress, and emerging opportunities across industry and academia.
2. Driving the advancement of the Clinical Accelerator Programme and delivery of key components of its strategy
· Drive planning and implementation of new activities as relevant to continually develop and advance the clinical research strategy
· Collaborate in mapping the clinical research ecosystem, identifying gaps in research and recommending actions to address them.
· Keep abreast of developments and trends in dementia clinical research to influence ARUK's strategies and decisions.
· Support and continuously strengthen internal reporting mechanisms, ensuring timely, high-quality updates to Senior Leadership and relevant boards that enable effective governance, informed decision-making, and strong organisational coordination
· Work closely with the Research Involvement Manager to integrate best practices in involvement and co-production to ensure our research is relevant for and supported by people affected by dementia
· Ensure effective information-sharing across internal stakeholders, including Research, Fundraising, Finance, Policy, Communications and Involvement teams, to maximise the visibility, uptake and strategic use of Clinical Accelerator Programme outputs.
· Aid in the planning, production, and communication of clinical research-related content with the ARUK Communications and Fundraising teams.
3. Strengthening Relationships with External Stakeholders
· Foster and nurture relationships with clinical leaders and research funders in the UK to build the profile of ARUK’s clinical research and help us to accelerate research towards a cure.
· Work closely with our Research Partnerships manager to maintain and build partnerships that further our clinical research objectives.
· Support the Senior Clinical Research Manager and Head of Clinical Research in enhancing ARUK’s external profile through active participation in meetings and collaborations with key stakeholders.
Knowledge, skills and experience needed:
· PhD in a relevant biomedical field or equivalent experience in clinical or scientific research
· Strong ability to critically interpret and evaluate pre-clinical and clinical data
· Familiarity with the drug development process of taking a therapy from pre-clinical studies to regulatory approval.
· Excellent stakeholder management skills.
· Demonstrable commitment to collaborative and inclusive working.
· Proven experience in project management with the ability to adhere to deadlines and prioritise tasks.
· Understanding of research programme management.
· Experience or understanding of preparing scientific dossiers or evidence summaries to inform research prioritisation, funding, or strategic decision-making.
· Understanding of dementia research and funding landscapes.
· Experience working with biotech and pharmaceutical companies
