Clinical Research Manager
The Clinical Research Manager will play a key role in advancing ARUK’s drug prioritisation activities as part of the Clinical Accelerator Programme. Working closely with the Senior Clinical Research Manager, this role will drive the identification, evaluation, and progression of high-potential drug candidates toward clinical trials, delivering tangible impact for people affected by dementia.
This role is vital in advancing Alzheimer’s Research UK’s research objectives and organisational strategy and will be key to delivering impact for people affected by dementia. The Clinical Research Manager will manage the planning and delivery of ARUK’s drug prioritisation activities working collaboratively with external stakeholders and various departments across the organisation, including the wider Research, Fundraising and Policy, Communications and Involvement Teams to develop the programme and ensure successful delivery and measurable impact.
This role sits within the Clinical Research team in the Research Directorate, an ambitious, proactive and growing team that is driving forward initiatives to bring more clinical trials to the UK for people living with or likely to develop dementia. With the first generation of disease modifying treatments recently approved, this is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with strong research experience who understands the clinical research environment in the UK, to contribute to groundbreaking work in dementia research, aligning with and advancing on the Government's new investment initiatives in the Dame Barbara Windsor Dementia Goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. ARUK Drug Prioritisation Programme Delivery and Development
· Lead on the identification of therapies with the potential to be prioritised for clinical trials in Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia through literature search and communication with the clinical research community and key external partners, with support from the Senior Clinical Research Manager.
· Lead the development and drafting of high-quality scientific dossiers that directly inform prioritisation decisions and progression of drug candidates.
· Lead the translation of recommendations from external advisory panels into actionable next steps.
· Work with the Senior Clinical Research Manager and the Senior Clinical Programmes Operations Officer to plan drug prioritisation activities, including meeting logistics, panel engagement, feedback and to track and evaluate progress.
· Identify, evaluate, and drive forward high-impact opportunities for drug prioritisation and clinical development in consultation with Partnerships, Evidence and Funding teams.
· Design and embed scalable processes to proactively monitor the global drug development landscape, utilising databases, conference intelligence, and literature to curate a dynamic intelligence log that tracks therapeutic candidates, development progress, and emerging opportunities across industry and academia.
2. Driving the advancement of the Clinical Accelerator Programme and delivery of key components of its strategy
· Drive planning and implementation of new activities as relevant to continually develop and advance the clinical research strategy
· Collaborate in mapping the clinical research ecosystem, identifying gaps in research and recommending actions to address them.
· Keep abreast of developments and trends in dementia clinical research to influence ARUK's strategies and decisions.
· Support and continuously strengthen internal reporting mechanisms, ensuring timely, high-quality updates to Senior Leadership and relevant boards that enable effective governance, informed decision-making, and strong organisational coordination
· Work closely with the Research Involvement Manager to integrate best practices in involvement and co-production to ensure our research is relevant for and supported by people affected by dementia
· Ensure effective information-sharing across internal stakeholders, including Research, Fundraising, Finance, Policy, Communications and Involvement teams, to maximise the visibility, uptake and strategic use of Clinical Accelerator Programme outputs.
· Aid in the planning, production, and communication of clinical research-related content with the ARUK Communications and Fundraising teams.
3. Strengthening Relationships with External Stakeholders
· Foster and nurture relationships with clinical leaders and research funders in the UK to build the profile of ARUK’s clinical research and help us to accelerate research towards a cure.
· Work closely with our Research Partnerships manager to maintain and build partnerships that further our clinical research objectives.
· Support the Senior Clinical Research Manager and Head of Clinical Research in enhancing ARUK’s external profile through active participation in meetings and collaborations with key stakeholders.
Knowledge, skills and experience needed:
· PhD in a relevant biomedical field or equivalent experience in clinical or scientific research
· Strong ability to critically interpret and evaluate pre-clinical and clinical data
· Familiarity with the drug development process of taking a therapy from pre-clinical studies to regulatory approval.
· Excellent stakeholder management skills.
· Demonstrable commitment to collaborative and inclusive working.
· Proven experience in project management with the ability to adhere to deadlines and prioritise tasks.
· Understanding of research programme management.
· Experience or understanding of preparing scientific dossiers or evidence summaries to inform research prioritisation, funding, or strategic decision-making.

As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

About the role:
The IT Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective, reliable and secure operation of the Foundation’s IT services and infrastructure. Greenwich Hospital is the lead charitable funding organisation for the Royal Navy and wider Royal Navy Community. As such, we are able to facilitate the identification of needs and the setting of strategic priorities, build capacity, deliver significant impact and encourage enhanced collaboration within the Naval charity sector.
We have undertaken significant reform in order to generate increased income for grant making – which has risen from £5m in 2023 to £10m in 2026.
Part of this revision has been the implementation of a new grants strategy in 2024, which seeks in particular to evidence need in order to guide the current and future funding of charitable support, with the expansion of our proactive and preventative funding to support education, young people and families. Our grants now encompass more preventative and wellbeing-enhancing education delivery not covered by public funding.
Following a review of our education and employment funding strategies, we are now focussing on widening our funding support beyond the longstanding bursary scheme for the Royal Hospital School. We are funding new educational programmes (such as free tutoring support) and developmental extra-curricular programmes with varied activities for children in order to enhance social mobility, compensate for the disadvantages of service life and enhance retention in service. This is undertaken in partnership with the Naval Children’s Charity, Royal Naval Sailing Association and Andrew Simpson Foundation. These funding streams also include increased focus on supporting partners of serving personnel with life opportunities and employability programmes.
Engaging with the research community to fill knowledge gaps has been key to the identification and balancing of current against future need, enabling accurate financial forecasting and income generation. We have recently completed our first long-term study of the welfare needs of the RN/RM community with granular demographic and qualitative data running through to 2040, and have now developed a sustainable funding strategy out to then.
This work has been led and overseen by our current Research and Education Grants Manager over the last two years. She will be going on maternity leave in mid-September, so we seek to recruit maternity cover for a fixed-term period of 14 months to join our charity team of four. The expected start date will be the beginning of September, but we hope the successful candidate will be able to meet with the current Manager occasionally before then.
Working alongside strategic partners, we will keep our grant priorities under regular review and adjust according to evidenced need. The Research and Education Grants Manager plays a significant role in this life enhancing work.
It is expected that the current Research and Education Grants Manager will return to work, therefore this maternity cover role will be made redundant at the expiry of its term.
JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION:
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assist in the delivery of GH’s charitable output to RN/RM beneficiaries in accordance with the Hospital’s objectives, governing legislation, policies and budgets.
· Help shape GH’s charitable work in education and the Life Opportunities programme. This will include direct delivery of support and delivery with/through others in order to ensure high impact and effectiveness. This will also include the development of new projects and programmes together with funding strategies to tackle unmet need.
· Strengthen current charity partnerships and establish new ones.
· Strengthen and assure impact monitoring and reporting across the applied grants, using best practice in current research methodology.
· Coordinate available research to identify gaps and focus GH spend.
KEY TASKS
1. In consultation with the Director of Grants and Finance staff, commission, track and manage the Hospital’s Education and Life Opportunities grants programme and budget, making sure it keeps within approved limits, reflects agreed payment schedules, and ensures the budget is spent in year or agreed as part of a roll over plan.
2. Oversee a portfolio of grants at various stages of the grant life cycle, including assessment of new applications, issuing Grant Agreements and managing awarded grants, applying established policies and processes. The process includes presenting grant applications and their assessment to our Charity Scrutiny Panel and Charity & Education Committee.
3. Ensure grants awards are authorised, paid and reviewed promptly.
4. Oversee and manage educational bursaries and grants, liaising and co-ordinating with the relevant educational organisations, applying established policies and processes. This includes bursaries for children attending the Royal Hospital School and university bursaries for serving personnel, working closely with the RN Learning and Development Organisation.
5. Collect, evaluate and report on the impact and effect of charitable giving and outcome of awards and, as required, collate and submit appropriate data and information to partner organisations.
6. Undertake the co-ordination and administration of cross-charity groups and meetings chaired and hosted by GH; represent GH in discussions and negotiations with stakeholders and other charitable partners and beneficiaries and represent GH at internal and external meetings.
7. Work alongside the Director of Grants to develop and implement GH’s new funding stream focused on supporting the naval charity sector in strengthening organisational capacity building and implementing effective impact measurement frameworks.
8. Identify, co-ordinate and where necessary scope commissioning of new research to inform present and future grants planning and spend, liaising with FiMT, MoD, SCiP Alliance and other appropriate bodies.
9. Work with the Communications Manager to ensure suitable publicity is given to GH charity activity internally, on the GH website and social media, in national publications and by grant recipients.
10. Assist the Director of Grants in the production of impact reporting to inform the GH Advisory Board and Charity & Education Committee.
11. Ensure and promote adherence to good charity governance practice; assist in the periodic review of funding guidelines/ policies and delivery.
12. Develop and apply good understanding of RN ethos, personnel and beneficiaries.
13. Assist in the development and delivery of a Communications Strategy for the Hospital’s charitable activities including website and social media.
14. Draft appropriate contributions to the Annual Review/Impact Report.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Expertise and experience
1. In-depth and evidenced knowledge and experience of charitable and financial support to beneficiary groups; ability to empathise with and advocate imaginatively on behalf of beneficiaries.
2. Knowledge and experience in grant-making processes.
3. Evidence of working effectively in co-operation with other charities and organisations.
4. Evidenced ability to imagine and develop vision into designed, costed, project-managed and delivered programmes.

Research Officer
The Research Team at Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) is dedicated to funding groundbreaking research to understand, diagnose, and cure dementia diseases. ARUK funds dementia research through an extensive portfolio of grant schemes and strategic initiatives both nationally and internationally.
The Research Officer will play a significant role in supporting the Senior Research Manager and other Research Managers. They will support the creation of grant processes for the administration of smaller value grants, lead the associated grant processes and contribute to work supporting our Research Network. This role is essential to foster ARUK's research objectives and provide continual support for our research community. This role will require close working with teams across the Research directorate, as well as the wider organisation.

The successful candidate will have experience designing and delivering resources, workshops, webinars, and events for a range of audiences, including senior leaders.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong written and editorial skills, excellent facilitation skills and who is confident distilling complex information into accessible learning materials. While the position requires engagement with and understanding of research, it is not a primary research role.
Key responsibilities are:
- Producing evidence-informed practice and policy resources in a range of formats (e.g. publications, videos, podcasts, animations). This includes evidence scoping, content development, commissioning, project management, editing, writing and quality assuring resources from inception to publication.
- Leading the development and delivery of concise, accessible content and learning activities to enable the development of evidence-informed practice and policy in the sector.
- Developing and facilitating learning sessions and events with a range of participants, including senior leaders across the sector.
- Working on a range of commissioned project work, from development/design through to analysis; presenting findings on completion and representing Research in Practice in project teams with academic and practice partners.
- Building strong relationships with sector experts and effectively managing relationships with authors, facilitators, people with lived experience and those working in research, policy and practice.

It’s an incredibly exciting time within partnerships at Prostate Cancer UK. In line with the charity’s ambitious 10-year fundraising strategy, partnerships are a core component in raising vital funds and awareness to help men navigate the UK’s most common cancer. With nationally recognised, award-winning partnerships as our platform, matched with a record-high brand sentiment rating, a highly prominent cause and a marketplace looking for long-term strategic partnerships, we are building the team infrastructure to maximise our strong position through the launch of two developed functions – Account Development and Business Development.
What the job involves
As Business Development Manager (Health), you’ll direct identifying and securing high-value partnerships within the health and pharmaceutical sectors, helping to generate meaningful income and impact. This is a hands-on role where you’ll use your sector knowledge and commercial insight to build and manage a targeted pipeline, developing tailored, high-value propositions and leading opportunities from initial engagement through to agreement.
Working closely with colleagues across Fundraising, Research, Health Services, Equity and Improvement (HSEI) and the Leadership Team, you’ll turn existing relationships and networks into strong, value-aligned partnerships. You’ll take a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement, using insight and influence to create opportunities and drive new business.
You’ll be responsible for managing your pipeline effectively, tracking performance and balancing shorter-term delivery with longer-term growth. Alongside this, you’ll act as a health sector specialist within the team, bringing insight, credibility and up-to-date knowledge to strengthen our approach.
Collaboration is key, and you’ll work across teams to ensure partnerships are set up for long-term success, with smooth handovers and clear alignment. Success in the role will be measured through income secured, pipeline strength and the quality and impact of the partnerships you build.
What we want from you
We’re looking for a Business Development Manager who brings both commercial insight and a genuine passion for making a difference in the health space. You’ll have built your career in business development, sales or high-value fundraising, ideally within health or pharmaceutical settings, and will be able to point to examples where you’ve successfully secured significant partnerships or commercial agreements.
You’ll be comfortable shaping compelling, high-value funding propositions that resonate with partners, and you’ll have a strong understanding of how the health sector works in practice, including decision-making processes and the wider regulatory landscape. Just as important is your ability to build and maintain trusted relationships. You’ll feel comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders, bringing credibility, professionalism and a collaborative approach to every interaction.
We’d especially love to hear from you if you’ve worked within healthcare, life sciences or pharmaceutical organisations, or if you have experience building partnerships in a charity or purpose-led environment. An understanding of areas such as ESG, research or impact-led partnerships would also be a real advantage, particularly in helping us grow meaningful and sustainable collaborations.
Above all, you’ll be someone who combines commercial thinking with a values-driven approach, and who’s motivated by the opportunity to create partnerships that deliver real impact.

How and where we work
Colleagues attend the office at least four days per month (pro rata for part-time colleagues) to collaborate, build relationships, and support projects and decision-making. You can choose where to work the rest of the time. Travel to the office is a commute, so we pay our own travel costs.
Additional in-person attendance will be required during your first few months for induction and training, to support you to learn the role and get to know colleagues.
