As Head of Fundraising and Development, you will be a key member of our Core Team, working closely with the Chief Executive to secure and manage the resources that enable our work. You will lead on researching and writing funding bids, managing relationships with funders, and ensuring that monitoring, evaluation, and reporting requirements are met. You will also play a central role in diversifying income through donations, sponsorships, commercial activity, and use of our assets.

Alongside fundraising, you will lead our marketing, communications, and promotion, keeping our website, social media, and noticeboards up to date, and ensuring our work is clearly and effectively communicated to the wider community. The role also includes administrative and HR support, such as assisting with recruitment processes, timesheets, training coordination, and ensuring compliance with fundraising regulations and best practice.

About You and the Role

The Front of House Receptionist will help deliver the provision of an efficient and welcoming service as the first point of contact with the Society, together with other administrative duties in support of the Facilities teams operation of the premises and the efficient use of its rooms.

More than 150,000 visitors come through the Society’s doors each year to enjoy both the Society’s own resources and activities, and the events of a wide variety of not for profit and commercial organisations who hire the 750 seat Ondaatje Theatre and other of the Society’s fine rooms. The Front of House Receptionist is the vital first point of contact for callers, visitors, members, staff, and tenants, as well as undertaking administrative duties in support of the Facilities team operation of the premises and the efficient use of its rooms.

The Front of House Receptionists work as a flexible team. They complement each other and support the wider team in both event management and operation. The post requires a broad knowledge of the Society’s activities in general, plus a more detailed understanding of the work handled by the various departments of the Society, and its tenants. Close attention to the weekly programme of activities is critical, together with awareness of unpublicised activities and of future events.

Key Responsibilities:

• Reception
  • Ensuring that Reception is always staffed between 9.00am and 5:30pm on weekdays, in conjunction with the fellow Front of House Receptionist on duty and other members of the Facilities team.
  • Receiving visitors to the Society arriving at Reception, ensuring that security procedures are followed, and directing them as necessary to the appropriate rooms. Assisting visitors with enquiries and requests; calling on the appropriate members of staff when necessary.
• Event support
  • Supporting Society and external events outside of normal working hours involving either early morning starts or late evening finishes. Duties will include welcoming and supporting external event organisers to ensure that the Society delivers a high quality of service to its customers. Overtime will be paid for these additional hours, and sufficient notice will be provided
  • Handling of enquiries and recording bookings for the Society’s own meetings and events on the events database.
• Switchboard
  • Operating the telephone switchboard, receiving, and disseminating calls helpfully, quickly, and efficiently.
• Administration
  • Recording new staff, tenants, and volunteers onto all relevant contact lists.

• Post duties

  • Act as First Aider. Training will be provided. Dealing with First Aid incidents. Deputising for the building First Aid Coordinator to always ensure an adequate corps of certified First Aiders, liaising on training and maintaining first aid kits throughout the building including the reordering of supplies.
  • Act as Fire Warden. Training will be provided. Deputising for the Fire Incident Coordinator to always ensure an adequate corps of certified Fire Wardens. Undertaking weekly building checks ensuring compliance with fire safety.

Salary and Benefits:

This is a full time, permanent contract. The salary range for this post is £27,675-£28,550 per annum, pro rata depending on experience and qualifications. The post is based in Kensington, London.

You will help to develop and manage a high-quality pipeline of new trust and foundation opportunities and inspire them with the potential of the trust's impactful projects. Alongside exciting development work, this role will be responsible for stewarding and engaging their growing portfolio of warm supporters to provide inspirational impact reporting. This role will provide the successful candidate with excellent career development opportunities in the sector and invaluable experience such as supporting a multi-million-pound Arts Council England grant. This officer will also work alongside a strong Fundraising team and share the space with the Books and Design teams.

The successful candidate will have a knowledge of and experience in fundraising, perhaps in a broader fundraising role that has touched on trusts and foundations. You will have a strong desire to develop your skills in grant giving, as well as a desire to make a difference to disadvantaged children and families.

This is a hybrid role, based from their offices in London or Leeds. It has a salary of £30k - £35k.

The Strategy and Policy Team is part of the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Corporate Services Directorate. The successful candidate will play a key role within the team, which incorporates policy and strategy support across Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) functions. The team works on a remote basis with the occasional requirement to attend meetings or events in London or other locations around the UK on a semi-regular basis.

The Strategy and Policy Team work closely with subject matter experts, insight analysts, and communications colleagues across NFCC to support and produce policy advice, positions, and content. Through the timely and clear production of evidence-based advice, our primary objective is to support national policy development, with the aim of improving the safety of the communities we serve.

What you will be doing:

The successful candidate will report to the Senior Policy Manager and be responsible for leading the development of policy advice, positions, and responses to Government across a range of topics. These could include aspects of operational preparedness and response, fire reform, climate change, emerging technologies, the NFCC strategy, and cultural improvement.

The post holder will be part of a team producing policy products for UK FRSs across all areas of FRS activities. Responsibilities will include engagement with UK FRSs to ensure that policies and national positions under development enjoy the support of our members and appropriately reflect their views.

In addition to working with other members of the Strategy and Policy Team, you will also work with technical, communications, data, and governance colleagues from other NFCC teams.

The post holder may also be involved with the preparation of research reports, impact assessments, cost benefit analysis of policy options, equality impact assessments, and presentation of data where relevant.
