About the Role

The Nightingale Navigator supports the loved ones of male survivors through the Nightingale Project. Recognising that sexual harm can affect partners, family members and others close to a survivor, the role provides therapeutic group and community-based support, alongside psychoeducation about trauma and its wider impact. This includes helping loved ones understand the criminal justice process and working with health, social care and other partner agencies to ensure they receive coordinated support. The Navigator also brings the experiences, needs and wishes of loved ones into the continued development of the Nightingale Project.

About You

You’ll be someone who understands that sexual harm can affect not only survivors, but also their partners, family members and other people close to them. You’ll be comfortable talking about trauma and able to provide compassionate, practical and non-judgmental support through group work, community activities and partnership working. Experience of supporting loved ones, delivering workshops or working within mental health, social care, advocacy or community services would be particularly helpful. We also recognise the value of transferable experience and welcome people who are committed to learning, building trusting relationships and helping loved ones feel less alone.

Job Title: Complex Needs Recovery Worker

Location: This role is based in Balham. The service is a short walk from Clapham South Station (Northern Line Underground). Unfortunately, this service does not have step free access.

Salary: £28,800

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Sunday on a rota between 08:00 - 21:30. You may be required to work bank holidays and evenings as required. You may be required to work additional hours outside of the hours to meet service and resident needs.

About the Role

We're hiring a Complex Needs Recovery Worker to join our team based in Penrose Focus. In this role, you will support residents who have a history of forensic mental health issues with co morbidity, often alongside co-occurring substance misuse disorders. The residents range from high risk to low support and our aim is to provide tailored support to help them reintegrate into the community. 

As a  Complex Needs Recovery Worker, you will identify individual resident needs, and provide person centred, tailored support to residents to help them overcome their personal challenges and achieve their goals. Key Responsibilities Include:

• Support residents who may be facing challenges with forensic mental health issues, substance misuse recovery and practical assistance such as applying for benefits or booking medical appointments.
• Create tailored support plans through one to one sessions, group sessions, and multi agency meetings
• Provide person-centered support to residents, helping them rebuild their lives and transition back into the community.
• Support residents to build skills and confidence and signpost residents to external organisations and services that can aid their recovery, such as drug rehabilitation programs, psychological therapy and social services.
• Monitor residents’ wellbeing, carrying out regular welfare checks, and responding to any incidents or emergencies.
• Build good relationships with residents, offering emotional support and fostering a safe, non judgmental environment.
• Confidently report issues to the police when necessary and work closely with probation officers to ensure residents meet their legal and rehabilitation requirements.
• Create an empowering and enabling environment where individuals are supported to make informed decisions and take control of their own lives.
• Support residents in accessing primary healthcare services, including arranging GP appointments and liaising with mental health professionals. 

About You

We're looking for a genuine passion for supporting people who may have complex needs which includes forensic mental health. You will be a self motivated individual who is able to be proactive in managing your own time during busy or quiet periods to ensure productivity. Experience in mental health or support work is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided. You will be able to work collaboratively as part of a team, and will have alignment with our SIG values. You will be keen to support our residents to achieve their individual goals and support them to be the best versions of themselves. 

• Previous professional or lived experience supporting people with forensic mental health and complex needs, ideally in mental health and residential setting
• Experience working with people with complex backgrounds, including ex-offenders, mental health, substance misuse, or challenging behaviour and an understanding of housing and social needs
• Ability to engage with people from different backgrounds, build rapport, and empower them to achieve their personal goals
• Ability to show empathy and compassion and the different challenges people face; ability to come up with creative solutions to support them in their journey
• Ability to use, learn and adapt to IT at an intermediate level, including Microsoft and other software programs
• Ability and willingness to show flexibility of working patterns, responding to the needs of the service and residents
• Ability to promote the service and provide outreach based provision, with an ability to liaise and work effectively in partnership with stakeholders
• Understanding of the different needs people with multiple and complex needs have and be aware of the social marginalisation that can be attached to people who face personal challenges

The Organiser will be responsible for powering Compass’ local groups, with a key focus on building our local groups ahead of the next election, and developing relationships across progressive political parties. They will play a key role in helping Compass strengthen its organising infrastructure while building productive relationships with partners outside Labour, including Liberal Democrats, Greens, and Welsh and Scottish nationalists, and with regional leaders working outside Westminster.

They will support work across the full range of Compass’ campaigns work, building powerful coalitions in key seats, growing the local groups infrastructure, developing cross-party relationships, and working on cutting through to key constituencies.

The role requires someone to use their excellent relationship building skills to work with diverse groups of people to build and grow teams around a shared vision and strategy.

The Organiser will work closely with Compass’ Deputy Director, as well as with the Executive Director, Campaigns Officer, Fundraising and Membership Manager, and Media and Press Officer, and alongside a broad network of partners, allies, associates and volunteers. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, relational, organised, committed and keen to learn. They should be comfortable working in a small, lively team and with groups and political traditions with different perspectives.

This role involves:

• Growing, building and coordinating our local groups network across the UK, supporting them to drive local activity and engagement with our campaigns.
• Working with the Compass Local Groups team to set local strategy, coordinate actions and deliver on Local Groups campaign goals in line with our national campaigns.
• Building and maintaining strong cross-party relationships with progressive politicians, activists, and party staff, including Liberal Democrats, Greens, Plaid Cymru, the SNP, and others, to strengthen Compass’ influence and coalition-building.
• Extending and deepening our relationships in key constituencies, and helping groups to do effective outreach to groups under-represented in our sector.
• Supporting the delivery of effective and creative campaigns at the national and local level on key issues such as democratic reform, climate action and inequality.
• Organising and activating our local group leaders to grow their mailing lists and expand their local reach.

Experience, qualifications and knowledge

• Experience in the political campaigning sector – whether in a not-for-profit, political party, charity, trade union or NGO.
• Experience with local organising – whether in a professional or volunteering capacity, plus an understanding of the dynamics of how local groups work as part of a national network.
• Alliance- and relationship- building skills – experience working with a range of different allies, stakeholders and partners and able to build trusted relationships quickly across different perspectives.
• Community building/community management skills – experience of working with volunteers, leaders or activist groups to develop their capacity and leadership to campaign.
• Experience managing campaigns or events – working in a team to deliver activities on the ground.
• Familiarity with digital campaigning tools for mass communication.
• An understanding of the UK progressive political scene and support for the aims, vision and values of Compass.

This role is suitable for someone who wants to work hard to develop new skills and is able to learn on the job, even if they haven’t worked in a political role before.

Pay will be £30-33k, London-based, with room for flexible working in terms of hours and location. The team has an office in central London (near Vauxhall) and the likely candidate would need to be comfortable travelling to the office at least 2- 3 times a week.

You will work closely with Compass’ Deputy Director who will offer managerial support and work with you to develop and deepen your skills over time.

The position is full-time and we are looking for someone to start as soon as possible. There is a 3-month probationary period.
