This role is to support the Church of England's work in the House of Lords in relation to all matters of education policy. Working closely with the Bishop of Portsmouth (the Chair of the National Society for Education and Lead Bishop for Education) and a range of other Lords Spiritual, you will be providing advice, supporting policy articulation, maintaining links with MPs, peers and staff, and working with NSE senior staff to ensure effective communication of education policy.

The Church of England has a unique role in the education system, providing around 20% of all schools (around 4700 schools). Its national work is overseen by the National Society for Education (Church of England & Church in Wales), working closely in partnership with Diocesan Boards of Education, school and trust leaders, alongside strategic leaders in the FE and HE sectors.

The NSE is chaired by the Bishop of Portsmouth, who has also sat in the House of Lords since December 2025. He regularly speaks in debates and works across the House with a wide range of peers, also working very closely with ministers, particularly in the Department for Education. This role is to provide parliamentary and policy support to him and a range of other Lords Spiritual who will speak on education issues.

The role sits inside the NSE team, line managed by the Head of Education Policy, and then working closely with the wider team of other Parliamentary and Policy Researchers across the wider Church of England. It provides an excellent opportunity for someone looking to support the Church's work in education at the most strategic level.

• Supporting the Bishop of Portsmouth (Chair of the National Society for Education and Lead Bishop for Education), and a range of other Lords Spiritual speaking on education policy in the House of Lords
• Advising on and researching materials for questions, speeches and other interventions in the Lords. Monitoring and keeping the Bishops informed about relevant parliamentary developments and timetables.
• Liaising with MPs, Peers and their staff, Parliamentary officials, and others in and outside the NCIs on behalf of the Bishops.
• Drafting material for online and print publication about the Bishops' work, in close collaboration with communications officers in Church House and the Diocese of Portsmouth.
• Providing occasional research resource for the Bishops in their diocesan work, as and when required. This may involve researching and drafting talks, articles and lectures.
• Supporting the Head of Education Policy and Chief Education Officer in their wider policy-related responsibilities as and when required.
• Working with the wider Parliamentary Team to ensure that the Bishops are kept abreast of the wider activities of the Lords Spiritual and the Parliamentary Team

The Parliamentary and Policy Researcher will be expected to regularly in London (at our office base - Church House, Westminster), and at the House of Lords. Flexibility in the working pattern will be required, due to the Bishops' duty weeks and other commitments in the Lords, as well as parliamentary sitting and recess dates.

The postholder will need to have access to the Parliamentary estate, so will be required to apply for a security pass sponsored by the Bishops, and will be expected to abide by the rules and codes set by Parliament that accompany the issuing of a pass. The postholder will also have access to the facilities offered to NCI staff, observing the responsibilities and protocols which apply to all staff of the NCIs.

ESSENTIAL

Skills/Aptitudes:

• Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing.

• Proven ability in drafting briefing papers or press releases, bulletins or other accessible modes of communication

• Excellent organisational skills, including time management, diary management etc.

• Research skills, with the ability to gather information quickly and accurately and to produce content in forms suitable for both brief speeches and full-length addresses

• Ability to discern the impact of policies, legislation etc. on the Church of England, other churches, and other faith communities

Knowledge/Experience:

• Knowledge of the UK Parliament, current affairs and the making of Government policy

• A grasp of the key issues facing the Church of England in its public role today

• Some experience of organising events (receptions, seminars, meetings etc.)

What you’ll do

You will play a key administrative and coordination role within the Postgraduate Education Support Services (PESS) team, ensuring the smooth delivery of postgraduate programmes through support in admissions, events, student services, and operational functions. A proactive approach and ability to work in a fast-paced team is essential to be successful in this role. Key details

Location: hybrid working (a mixture of onsite and home/remote working): supporting in-person activities will be required with at least 40% of working hours in-person at our London site (4-8 Rodney Street, London N1 9JH). Attendance at in-person teaching days will be required.

The role

The Education & Standards Administrator role is an opportunity for someone who thrives on a challenge, who is happiest when putting their excellent organisational and customer facing skills through their paces. Someone who is at their best working collaboratively with others. 

They will play a key role in supporting the delivery of FPM’s Certificate and Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine (DPM), training and standards, chiefly in two areas:

• Examinations – FPM sets the curricula for and runs a number of examinations. They include the Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine, successful completion of which is a defining moment in the career of any pharmaceutical physician, and a keystone of FPM membership. It affirms their knowledge and expertise in the specialty, and commitment to enhancing the health of society.
• Training – FPM offers a range of training sessions and webinars, including the flagship DPM Training Programme which supports learners preparing to take FPM examinations. Training is a cornerstone of FPM’s commitment to equipping pharmaceutical physicians with the specialist knowledge and capabilities to practise to the highest ethical and professional standards.

The postholder will support FPM’s Examinations and Standards Manager and Digital Training Manager in delivering a high quality customer experience.

We are looking for a bright, dynamic self-starter who is a team player, organised and has good communication skills. The ideal candidate will bring great energy, diligence and attention to detail, and will be keen to make a positive contribution in all aspects of the role. Specific tasks include: acting as the first line of response for queries; supporting the registration of examination and training candidates; handling meetings administration, including sending out Teams or Zoom links and meeting materials; and assisting with CRM testing and setup. An understanding of professional development in a professional environment would be an advantage but is not essential. Full training will be given.

What could my day look like?

The Education Worker role is a frontline, fast-paced and rewarding role where no two weeks will look the same. A typical day will have different activities, possibly spread between the IntoUniversity centre, partner schools and the offices of a corporate partner.

In the morning, you might be setting off with resources to run a workshop for sixth-form students in their secondary school. In the afternoon you may be setting up the classroom ahead of running Primary Academic Support for young people in your IntoUniversity centre. On other days, you may be travelling to a corporate partner to run a business simulation workshop for 15 year-olds or leading a group of final year primary school students on a campus visit for their graduation.

As an Education Worker, you’ll always be delivering the programme as part of your centre team, which means that any delivery is always a team effort. 

Salary: £34,000 - £38,000 (pro rata to, £20,400 to £22,800) per annum

You will join a newly established Advocacy and Advice Service supporting children, young people and their families to navigate education, health and benefits systems.

Families often face unclear pathways, complex processes and inconsistent information.  Your role is to bring clarity, structure and confidence at key moments.

Working in a strengths-based and relational way, you will help families understand their rights, prepare for key decisions and access the support they need.

This is a non-statutory role.  You will not replace legal or statutory services, but you will ensure families are informed, prepared and able to engage effectively.

About the Role

This role sits within the Academic Development & Standards Team and provides administrative support for the College’s education development work. The post holder will help with the day-to-day coordination and delivery of activity across CPD, Joint Speciality Fellowships (JSF), accreditation, educational consultancy, webinars, management of educational platforms (iLearn), SERI Lab.

The role is varied and will involve maintaining records, responding to enquiries, issuing certificates, arranging meetings, supporting webinars, collating evaluation data, booking travel and helping with finance administration. Experience/Qualifications/Key Skills

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is organised, methodical and confident in providing administrative support in a busy team environment.

The successful candidate will have a good standard of education, including GCSE English at Grade C or above, or equivalent experience. They will have proven administrative and organisational skills, experience of working with databases, and the ability to maintain accurate records.

A strong academic skill set is important for this role. The successful candidate should be confident working with written information, taking accurate minutes, drafting clear documents, collating evaluation data and supporting academic and educational processes. They should be able to review information carefully, identify key points and present written work to a high standard.

Strong communication and customer service skills are also essential, as the role involves working with a range of colleagues, members, customers, faculty, reviewers and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will be confident using Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and will be able to prioritise their workload with minimum supervision.

The role would suit someone who takes a proactive approach, uses their initiative and is confident working independently with minimal guidance. They should have:

The Education Quality Manager role leads and sets the strategic direction for the team providing support and development of academic representation at Arts SU, enabling effective voice and ensuring a better academic experience for students at UAL.

JOB PURPOSE 

• To lead and set the strategic direction for the team providing support and development of academic representation at Arts SU. 
• Develop and lead ambitious plans to evaluate and develop the academic representation system at UAL, building engagement levels, impact, and visibility year on year. 

KEY RESPONIBILITIES

Leading a high performing team:

•  Provide leadership, strategic direction and day to day operational management of the Education Quality Team; motivating, supporting and developing team members to ensure that they have the necessary skills and knowledge for their roles as well as manage performance. 
• Develop succession plans and identify training and development requirements within the team. 
• Develop a proactive results driven culture within the team, ensuring agreed objectives and targets are delivered, whilst promoting a collaborative approach to working with internal departments. 
• Identify the need for, recruit and manage student staff as necessary. 
• Be accountable for the quality of outputs of the team. 
• Provide support to the student officer team helping and equipping them to be knowledgeable and informed representatives. 
• Ensure the whole organization is aware of and understands the work of the Education Quality team. 

Strategic Development

• Lead the Academic Representation’s System’s involvement with the University’s quality assurance processes. 
• Oversee the development of systems and processes for capturing, tracking, and sharing student feedback, issues and the impact of academic representation. 
• Lead the analysis of student feedback to advise and support student representatives to lobby and influence the University’s policies, procedures and practice. 
• Lead the promotion of the service within UAL, building relationships with relevant stakeholders and making it easy for staff and students to understand the purpose of the team and its work. 

Financial & Resource responsibility

• Manage a substantial Education Quality Team budget, being responsible for resources that are allocated to the department and ensuring these are effectively managed and controlled.
• Review and establish processes, systems and policies and where appropriate standard procedures for activities to maximise efficiency, ensure deadlines are met and to ensure a positive return on investment.

 Oversight & development of Academic Representation

• Manage and support Education Quality Coordinators to deliver Arts SU’s academic representation systems bringing support for representatives and innovation around student engagement. 
• Provide day-to-day management of our academic representation system, including managing relationships with UAL staff who work on this system in Colleges, Schools and Academic Quality. 
• Work to further develop our partnership with the University to establish the Education Quality Team as expert practitioners and a source of good practice on student engagement, representation, and co-production. 
• Work in partnership with staff and elected officers to deliver a holistic and high-quality academic representation system, including managing the election, training, year-round engagement and development of academic representatives and other related roles as relevant. 
• Work closely with colleagues to support and deliver successful SU elections and awards events. 

Policy & Officer support

• Lead the Education Quality Team’s work in providing comprehensive policy support to Arts SU’s Full-time Officers and School Representatives on education issues and developing effective lobbying strategies to influence the policies that impact students’ lives. 
• Support engagement in College committees and working groups by maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of representatives and staff committee responsibilities, accompanying representatives where appropriate and coordinating a system for committee briefing and de-briefing. 
• Work with colleagues to deliver high profile campaigns based on evidence and insights. 
• Work with the wider team to develop relationships with academic societies, and to develop their ability to support student representation and engagement. 
• Provide regular and structured reports or presentations to colleagues to support strategic decision making throughout Arts SU.

The person appointed will be employed by the Cathedral Chapter and the Line Manager for this post will be the Canon Chancellor.

The Education Officer will work with the Canon Chancellor and the expert volunteers who support this department to develop, grow and deliver the schools and formal learning offers at the cathedral. In addition, they will work with others to develop the interpretation and activities for families and children, helping them to discover the cathedral and its work.

The post of Education Officer is located within Ripon Cathedral, which is a place of Christian worship and mission within the Church of England.  This is a creative and mission-led role, sitting at the heart of the cathedral’s commitment to education, outreach and discipleship.  The role requires a solid understanding of, and sympathy for the Christian faith. 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

Education Programme Development

• To develop and grow the education programme in support of the cathedral’s strategic objectives.
• To grow income from school visits and projects.
• To contribute actively to maintaining a healthy safeguarding culture in the cathedral. 

Leadership and Management of Volunteers

Lead, recruit, manage and develop the expert team of volunteers, creating a working environment which fosters commitment, enthusiasm and confidence with a positive safeguarding culture at its heart.

• Lead by example and promote team-working across the department and with the wider cathedral staff team.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff and volunteers to drive forward the delivery of the vision for the Cathedral. .

Formal Learning Offer

• Develop the formal learning offer at the cathedral to cover all ages and across the whole curriculum
• Create educational resources and activities aligned to the National Curriculum
• Work with partner organisations in the area to develop multi-site learning and visits
• Promote the offer to schools across the area, building up strong relationships with teachers and local networks, and act as primary contact for schools and groups.

Informal Learning Offer

• Liaise and work with the Cathedral’s Children and Families Officer to devise and deliver seasonal children and family activities during school holidays

The Royal School of Needlework is the International Centre of Excellence for the Art of Hand Embroidery. Based at the historic Hampton Court Palace, we have been dedicated to preserving and innovating in the art of hand embroidery since 1872. Our thriving education programme offers courses for all levels, from beginners to degree level, and we teach onsite and online in locations across the UK, and internationally in America, Japan, and Australia. Our renowned Embroidery Studio creates bespoke embroidery for fashion, art, and royalty and offers expert conservation and restoration services for valuable and historical embroidered pieces.

The RSN is unique. No other single organisation covers the breadth of education and practice to promote the art and technique of hand embroidery or has our connections, collection, archive and heritage. Embroidery is an international language. Cultures and communities have used embroidery-based techniques to tell stories and record events for hundreds of years while the individual benefits of mindfulness and mental wellbeing are now increasingly being recognised today.

Overview of Role:
To provide operational and administrative support across the RSN’s educational programmes, including the Certificate and Diploma, Tutor Training Course, Short Courses, International Summer School and On Demand Courses.

Main Duties 

The main duties include, but are not limited to: 

General Administration 

• Manage the Education Email Inboxes, responding to queries and complaints as appropriate. 
• Monitor and order stock levels, ensuring supplies are available as needed. 
• Handle the packing and mailing of kits and materials, both nationally and internationally. 
• Support classroom setup for various courses, including Short Courses, Bespoke Classes, and events. 
• Assist in preparing beverages for students and visitors, maintaining cleanliness in the area. 
• Escort visitors and guests from reception, including tour groups, while representing the RSN brand confidently and enthusiastically. 
• Attend offsite events as required. 

Course-Related Administration 

• Support the Certificate and Diploma Programme Managers in the administration of the course. 
• Provide logistical support for educational tours and other departmental activities. 

Other Duties 

• Maintain a professional and efficient workflow within the Education team. 
• Provide comprehensive administrative assistanceto the Education Management Team, including scheduling, correspondence, and maintaining organised records to facilitate programme delivery.
• Undertake any additional activities required by your line manager within the scope of this role.
