Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity is hiring for two Event Managers to join our Special Events team. One position is permanent and the other is a 6 month FTC.

Salary

The salary for this position is £42,131 per annum and we operate a hybrid working policy of a minimum of 2 days per week in the office. 

In line with our EDI strategy and Total Reward policy, we calculate our salaries based on benchmarking data across the charity sector.  To ensure fairness for existing staff and new joiners, we do not offer salaries above the advertised rate.

Key Responsibilities

As an Events Manager, you will lead the planning and seamless delivery of a portfolio of high-profile Special Events throughout the year, ensuring every event aligns with and supports GOSH Charity’s fundraising strategy.

You’ll play a central role in building strong relationships with the committees that support our events, working collaboratively to deliver exceptional experiences, maximise fundraising opportunities, and inspire long-term supporter engagement. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact while delivering memorable events for one of the UK’s most recognised charities.
 

This is a hugely varied role where you will be involved with:
 

• Full management of event logistics.
• Ensure all events and other associated work undertaken are delivered to the highest standard.
• Work with and managing high level supporters and committees to develop events income.
• Day to day management of project team members who are working on the same event.
• Support and attend the portfolio of events and committee meetings (regularly requiring out-of-hours work.)
• Contribute to the Special Events team business planning processes on a regular basis. 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• Good working knowledge of events production, venues, potential suppliers etc. 
• Proven track record of managing and delivering high level events.
• Evidence of working with external fundraising committees/HNWI to deliver successful events.
• Prior experience of budget management, including forecasting and planning.
• Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal. 
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach and mind-set.
• Brilliant time management and task prioritisation skills.
• Highly resilient with the ability to manage changing priorities. 

About the team 

The Special Events team manages a comprehensive and diverse programme of 20-30 high-end events per year to raise funds, raise awareness and support the work of the hospital. The team produce many of the charity flagship events, such as black-tie gala dinners at the Natural History Museum and our annual Christmas Carol Concert, with the events raising between £100,000 to £1.5 million. In addition, the Special Events team works on a range of enrichment events for the patients at Great Ormond Street Hospital, like the annual winter party, The Snow Ball. The team holds relationships with a large external supporter base of high-value senior volunteers and committees who are pivotal to the success of the events. The team also act as an event agency for the rest of the charity, working with colleagues to deliver their event needs such as drinks receptions and stewardship events.

Job Description

Key responsibilities:

1. Events Marketing

• To oversee the scheduling, production and distribution of promotional e-mails for our events. Liaise with comms team to promote events across AvMA media platform To work on the development of the events pages on the new AvMA web site. Ensuring event web pages are kept up-to-date. To carry out data analysis and web analytics to determine what people are responding to and to highlight the areas we may need to focus/re-focus.

Events Logistics & Management

• In conjunction with the Head of Events, to undertake the production and organisation of events, including inviting and liaising with speakers and arranging event logistics. Effective liaison with speakers, ensuring they have all the information required to participate in the event and providing deadlines for receiving their presentation and biography. To work on site at events as required and run smaller events on your own. Duties will involve setting-up and administering registration, liaising with the venue, greeting speakers and exhibitors, dealing with enquiries from delegates and making sure the event runs smoothly. Production of the online conference documentation, to include speaker presentations.

Research & Event Development

• Help identify and research potential subject areas on which we may want to run events. Keep a close eye on the medico-legal events sector market and other events taking place. Help identify potential new sponsors and exhibitors for our events.

Events CRM

• Develop a sound understanding of AvMA’s new CRM, ensuring we optimise it for the efficient and effective marketing of events.
• To assist if/as required with bookings and booking queries for AvMA’s events.

Other

• To support the Events Department’s quality initiatives and to suggest continuing improvements where needs arise.
• To undertake other duties commensurate with the post as may be required.
• Deputise for the Head of Events when necessary 

Person Specification

Essential:

1. An understanding of, and commitment to, the values and objectives of AvMA.
2. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop effective and positive working  relationships with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
3. Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to manage and prioritise workload and meet targets.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Confidence in liaising with speakers, sponsors and delegates.
5. Experience of organising events and on-site management of events, including in-person and online events/webinars.
6. Marketing copy writing ability, proof-reading skills, outstanding attention to detail.
7. Experience of using e-mail marketing platforms (e.g. Dot Digital) and social media to promote events and maintaining event web pages.
8. A high level of IT and digital literacy skills, including Office 365, Microsoft Dynamics and Adobe  In Design
9. Staying calm under pressure, a proactive and solutions focussed approach to problem-solving, ability to independently think on your feet.
10. Demonstrable commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Desirable:

• Experience of working within a charity.
• Experience of working in healthcare and legal sector events.
• Knowledge or experience of healthcare, the NHS or patient safety work.
• Understanding/experience of Search Engine Optimisation.

Our EYFS compliant Early Years Provision is an essential part of our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) service, providing Early Years education & development for children who have English as an Additional Language (EAL). The parent(s) of our Early Years children attend onsite English Language classes for the duration of the Early Years session with the majority of our families having been resettled to the UK as those with refugee status.

Our ESOL provision currently runs at two locations, in Shefford and Bedford. This role is based predominantly in Shefford and is a term-time only role (39 weeks per year paid in equal instalments over a 12 month period) with regular team training and development opportunities at our central office in Bedford.

About the role

The Early Years Session Lead holds responsibility for leading sessions in our trauma-informed Early Years setting. They supervise a small team of L2 practitioners during the sessions, with the possibility of career progression to a Room Lead role with line management responsibilities following successful completion of probation period. As an OFSTED registered Early Years setting we work to support children to learn, grow and develop in line with the EYFS framework & Development Matters guidance.

The Early Years Session Lead is part of the EY Leadership Team, which meet together online on a weekly basis (currently Weds 15:00-16:00, with flexibility to amend meeting time to accommodate flexible working requests where possible)

In addition the EY Session Lead works in our EY setting in Bedford on a Friday alongside the Early Years Room Lead (Bedford) and the Senior Early Years Practitioner. We are open to discussing flexible working requests for the right candidate should working in Bedford on a Friday not be possible.
