When young people in care turn 18, all the support they’ve relied on can fall away, literally overnight. Suddenly, they have to navigate adulthood on their own. This would be tough for any teenager, even if they could fall back on their family for help. So it’s not surprising that two out of three care-experienced young people feel unprepared to leave care. Too many still don’t get the support they need to make it safely past this cliff edge.
Care leavers aged 18-21 are nine times more likely to experience homelessness than their peers.
Settle exists to change this. We’re an award-winning charity, supporting care-experienced young people as they move into their first home, so they can confidently transition into independent living, avoid eviction and homelessness, and establish the foundations they need to thrive in adulthood. We are on a mission to end homelessness among care-experienced young people.
With our current Head of Fundraising leaving us to go travelling, we’re seeking someone new to help us achieve this ambition. You’ll have a lot to build on. Over the last three years, we’ve grown our income dramatically, and diversified our funder portfolio. We have strong relationships with our committed and supportive funders, underpinned by an organisation-wide commitment to fundraising.
This is a crucial role for Settle, and you’ll have the support you need to excel. In 2025, we grew our fundraising team from one (this post) to three. You’ll take on the leadership of an engaged and enthusiastic team, increasingly responsible for day-to-day management of trust and foundation fundraising. As well as inspiring the team to great things, you’ll have the opportunity to develop and deepen our relationships with philanthropists and high net worth individuals. You’ll have active support and engagement from me and the Board, with regular opportunities to involve trustees in your work.
As we head into future years, you’ll lead the development and delivery of our next fundraising strategy. We’re proud of our welcoming, inclusive and collaborative culture. EXPERIENCE NEEDED FOR THIS ROLE
ESSENTIAL
✷ Significant track record of raising funds from trusts and foundations
✷ Experience of securing major gifts, donations or grants from high net worth individuals or family foundations

Hours: The hours are full-time (35 hours per week) preferred, with attendance at funder events outside core hours as needed from time to time – part-time will be considered for the right candidate but we envisage at least 0.8FTE / 28 hours per week
Location: Hybrid working between our office in London Bridge and working from home – our standard expectation is at least 2 days a week of contact time (in the office, funder meetings or events). We have a monthly in person team meeting on a Wednesday, and hold our monthly SLT meetings in person on a Tuesday.

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and empathetic Mental Health & Wellbeing Project Worker to contribute to the development and delivery of flexible support services which address the psychological and emotional needs of children, young people and families living with the effects of domestic abuse, in North Tyneside and Northumberland. You will help to develop, organise and facilitate key aspects of the service as requested by the Team Coordinator such one-to-one support interventions, group work, and youth participation opportunities in a variety of settings including in-house, schools and community venues. Post is to be predominantly based in Northumberland.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver flexible one to one support sessions, using a range of interventions to assess and positively contribute to the individual wellbeing needs of children and young people impacted by domestic abuse.
- Support service users, particularly within the 11-16 age group to develop personal and life skills, promoting self-esteem and independence, and raising awareness of other support services and opportunities available to them and their families.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of group work, activities and events, including the continued development of service user participation
- Work in partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure coordinated care and refer service users to additional sources of help and protection as needed.
- Adhere to safeguarding, confidentiality, and equal opportunities policies while maintaining accurate and confidential records, reporting appropriately, and complying with organisational guidelines.
- Participate in training, supervision, and team activities, contributing flexibly to service development and supporting broader organisational goals as required by management.
About You
- Holds qualifications and relevant experience in social care, childcare, youth work, or a therapeutic field
- Experience working directly with children and young people with an excellent understanding of common issues relating to child development, mental health and wellbeing
- Experienced in one-to-one casework, group facilitation, youth programmes, and multi-agency working, with a proven ability to assess needs and connect individuals to appropriate support services.
- Effective communicator with the ability to engage sensitively and non-judgementally with service users, demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and a commitment to empowering individuals.
- Skilled in managing workloads, maintaining accurate records, writing reports, and meeting deadlines under pressure, with strong time management and attention to detail.
- A motivated, flexible team player who values equality and diversity, and brings creativity and initiative to their practice.
- Driver with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes. This role involves frequent travel to and from locations across North Tyneside and Northumberland to meet the varied needs of service users.

- Establish 100 new, high‑quality mentoring matches each quarter, ensuring mentors and mentees are trained and meeting.

About Merchant Taylors’ Boones Charity (MTBC)
MTBC is a charitable arm of the Merchant Taylors’ Company, with a vision to be a long term provider of high quality almshouses in the Borough of Lewisham that improves lives across the generations.
Almshouse dwellings for ‘low needs’ young people affected by homeless – this Youth Almshouses project is at the business planning phase, with the accommodation due to open in a few years’ time. The current proposal is that MTBC will build the accommodation and an experienced Partner Charity will manage it under a lease.
Independent living almshouse flats for people aged 57+ in financial need: Christopher Boone’s Court - MTBC has 34 flats in this luxurious new development, leased from One Housing Group. The remaining flats are owned by One Housing Group’s private tenants in the same age range.
About the role
Reports to: The Head of Philanthropy
Direct reports: None
Places of work: The Hall (Bank, London), Christopher Boone’s Court (South London).
Travel: Some travel may be required within Greater London in connection with various aspects of the role. Occasional travel may be required within the UK, primarily in connection with the Youth Almshouses project.
Key collaborative relationships within Merchant Taylors’: Youth Almshouses Project Group, Company Surveyor, Membership and Communications Team, Finance Team
Overview of role:
The postholder leads the development of policy on issues such as independent living and financial subsidy to make a positive difference to the lives of older people in financial hardship at our site in Lewisham. The postholder manages operations at that site, with an emphasis on efficient systems.
The postholder is part of the small team responsible for developing our project to house young people, being versatile about the tasks they undertake to bring this complex and exciting project to fruition.
The postholder is the lead staff member reporting to the Housing and Care Committee on the resident-related issues in our provision of almshouse accommodation. The post holder leads on fulfilling MTBC’s obligations to regulatory bodies such as the Charity Commission and Regulator of Social Housing.
Responsibilities and Duties
Youth Almshouses project: planning phase
[This phase has already started. There is a separate section of this Job Description relating to once construction has finished, estimated to be 2028]
Contributes to all aspects of the planning phase of the Youth Almshouses project and building relationships with key third parties. Non-exhaustive examples of milestones due in this phase for the project team to which this role belongs are:
o Agreeing appropriate business model and site design with the Partner Charity
o Conclusive professional advice on all aspects
o Concluding legal agreements with the Partner Charity
o Any regulatory issues concluded
o Planning permission granted
o Publicity
o Contracts in place with all parties relevant to construction
Management of the charity
- Presents information to assist decision-making, for example written reports and analysis of financial data for the trustees
- Manages MTBC’s affairs at Christopher Boone’s Court
Finance, Legal and Governance
- Leads on all financial matters affecting our residents at Christopher Boone’s Court.
- Completes annual returns to regulatory bodies
- Contributes to business continuity plan, review of relevant policies, preparation of MTBC’s annual report and accounts, budgeting cycle and monitoring performance against budget.
- Ensures that MTBC is up to date in complying with regulatory regimes of the Charity Commission, Regulator of Social Housing, the Housing Ombudsman and any other relevant regulatory bodies.
Data Protection
Promotes a ‘data protection by design’ approach to ensure that MTBC is compliant with data protection principles.
Policy, Development and Improvement
- Leads policy development on independent living, financial subsidy of residents, and any other relevant policy issues relating to residents of Christopher Boone’s Court or the planned youth accommodation.
- Keeps up to date with regulatory changes and best practice learning relevant to almshouse charities which are Registered Providers of Social Housing
- Drives forward change to reflect that learning, for the benefit of MTBC.
- Seeks appropriate specialist advice.
Information Technology and Residents
Encourages and develops the use and availability of technology to make residents at Christopher Boone’s Court confident with accessing online services.
Communications
Writes communications about MTBC and its activities for a wide variety of stakeholders.
Property Management
Arranges any repairs/maintenance at Christopher Boone’s Court which are MTBC’s responsibility.

· Converting pilot and seed-funded contracts to longer-term sustainable contracts e.g. current Postcode Lottery agreement in the North-East converting to a long-term contract with North-East and North Cumbria ICB (more information to this can be given at interview stage)
· Support drawing up and negotiating contracts and ensuring delivery
· Work with stakeholders and our internal team to scope and develop exciting new opportunities
· Develop and steward fundraising and donor relationships in order to increase income

Partnerships and Networks
· Build and maintain a network of strategic key external contacts that can support Advantage Mentoring’s work. Stakeholders will be from private, public and third sector groups. Take an active role in representing Advantage Mentoring to appropriate Trusts and Foundations
· Develop a work plan for private sector and philanthropic engagement to achieve a joined up and coherent approach to engaging with commercial organisations across multiple outcomes (financial, brand awareness, influencing policy and support-in-kind)
Communication, marketing and external relations
· Work with Communications colleagues to create materials that will attract new strategic partners, for example highly targeted work aimed at specific sectors being clear about the value of partnering with Advantage Mentoring
· Represent Advantage Mentoring with external audiences (in the media, at events, in meetings with senior stakeholders)
Strategic Leadership
· Develop and implement Advantage’s income generation strategy and policies, as a part of the Leadership Team
· Ensure that partner organisations understand and commit to our values
Management
· Oversee the business development pipeline and ensure that enough proposals are being submitted to make the achievement of income targets probable
· Provide income generation information to the Managing Director and participate in Executive Team meetings and Board meetings
· Report to the Board on income generation as required.
· Maintain a thorough understanding of financial targets and progress
· Work alongside the Head of Operations & Projects to make sure projects are properly initiated and well managed to ensure all contractual obligations are achieved
· Work closely with the PR/Comms Manager to support the awareness of the organisation’s work on a national and local level
Reporting
· Utilise the project bids pipeline spreadsheet and capacity spreadsheet to inform planning and resourcing
· Maintain an effective database of Grants, Trust and Foundation contacts
· Monitor digital income streams to ensure they are effective and opportunities are secured
· Work in collaboration with the communications team to build brand awareness, and promote income generation and impact developing content for key messaging, PR, and branding materials to support effective marketing of the organisation
· Design and develop key income generation materials to enhance our external visibility including extending our profile via submissions for awards and recognition programmes
· Plan and support events for awareness raising and dissemination of our work
· Ensure systems and processes for managing data comply with the organisation’s data protection obligations, charity law and GDPR
· Develop robust systems for the effective stewardship and reporting to supporters of our work

Reporting to the Global CEO, you will:
- Develop and deliver a global communications strategy aligned to organisational priorities
