Description of role:
To support customers with higher needs and communication difficulties one-to-one in a group sessions.
Work alongside our Activities Facilitators to support the delivery of sessions.
Key tasks:
To work at the individual customer’s pace in a group, ensuring they can take part in sessions (for example cooking, baking, dance).
Help the individual customer communicate and interact with the team and their peers.
To help with confidence building by encouraging and empowering customer to engage, be creative and stay safe.
Ensure that the individual is included in various aspects of sessions, and during breaks and lunchtime.
Volunteers will not be engaged in “Regulated Activity” as defined by Schedule 4 to the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 (as amended). This includes assisting people with personal or health care, and undertaking activities with children that are not supervised by staff.
A DBS check will be required as part of this role and will be carried out during the vetting checks of successful applicants.

Purpose of role:
The Community Café provides a clean, welcoming, safe and secure environment that all members of the community can easily access. Under the direction, you will support the running of Community Café including signposting customers to relevant services.
Main tasks and responsibilities:

Preparation and serving of hot and cold food and beverages to café customers.

What is a Community Volunteer?
Community Volunteers provide practical help to serving people and their families. Whilst a friendly chat is an important aspect of the role you will also be providing some hands-on support like a lift to a medical appointment or help with shopping.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community for more than 130 years. Armed Forces life can bring its challenges when a loved-one is deployed overseas, or a family must move to a new location. Some people find themselves facing illness, bereavement or unexpected financial problems. Day-to-day activities can become difficult without a little help. That’s where you come in. Could you spare a few hours a week to lend a helping hand to a family in your serving community?
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
The essential part of the role is visiting beneficiaries, so you will be expected to travel to meet people at home or elsewhere.
Some volunteers will visit more people than others. Whilst you may visit a beneficiary, or family, on a regular basis support is always time-limited.
What would you be doing?
- Contacting beneficiaries and arranging to meet them at their home or in a suitable place depending on their needs
- Providing practical help like lifts to appointments, going to the shops, washing-up, running errands etc.
- Providing time limited, relief care for children (additional training is required for those undertaking this type of support).
- Helping people to think about how to access other support if needed and signposting as required
- Reporting any safeguarding concerns in line with SSAFA’s safeguarding policy and procedures.
- Keeping in touch with your Community Volunteer Coordinator, attending supervision and keeping a record of your visits.
- Keeping up to date with training and SSAFA news so that you are best able to support beneficiaries
- Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA
- Adhering to SSAFA’s policies and procedures at all times, including SSAFA’s: safeguarding; equality, diversity and inclusion; health & safety; data protection; confidentiality

- Online training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date with how to keep clients, their families and personal information safe

- Volunteers will be covered by SSAFA's Public Liability insurance while carrying out their role.
What are we looking for?

- Understanding of the need to remain within the boundaries of the role with regards to friendship, finances etc.
- Practice confidentiality and data protection in line with SSAFA’s policies
- Good IT skills e.g. ability to use Outlook – you will receive your own SSAFA email address.

- A willingness to adhere to all relevant organisational policies and procedures.
Depending on the needs of the team, this role would suit someone who would like to volunteer a few hours each week.

South West Advocacy Network (SWAN) want to strengthen their Board of Trustees with up to 4 new Trustee appointments, including a Treasurer. SWAN began life in Wiltshire and over the past 25 years has expanded into Somerset, Bristol, Dorset, Isle of Wight, West Berkshire and Portsmouth. We have developed a model of advocacy which ensures everyone, including the most marginalised, have the same rights and opportunities as their fellow citizens. As an event volunteer you will play a vital role by raising awareness of our services, assisting with fundraising and engaging with the local community.You will represent Magpas Air Ambulance at a wide range of events indoors and outdoors, come rain or shine. You may be assisting with car parking, meeting and greeting, setting up a stall, selling merchandise, engaging the public and answering questions. Magpas Air Ambulance have a presence at over 150 events each year and need reliable, friendly people like you to help us achieve this. Marie Curie and Northern Health and Social Care Trust have joined together to offer a service to support people at the end of life.
Spending time with patients and/or their relatives, we’re looking for volunteers to provide emotional support, a listening ear, and to simply be there for patients with a palliative diagnosis and their loved ones.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING.
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Support patients in line with agreed boundaries and procedures
- Spend time listening and talking with patients, family, friends, and carers.
- Signpost families and friends to other services, as appropriate
- Write and submit, to the Volunteer Manager, a brief report on each visit.
- Keep the Service Manager informed of any changes of significant happenings in connection with the client, either in person or by telephone
- Be an active part of the team of Marie Curie Companions and the wider team of Antrim Area Hospital’s volunteers.
- Attend regular group support and development sessions for Marie Curie Companions
- Help with other related tasks when necessary.

Why we need your help
We are looking for volunteers to join our clinical teams in supporting service users to connect to nature by enjoying the benefits of gardening to improve physical, mental and social wellbeing.
Structured around a patient &/or carers individual needs we aim to offer a range of activities in a variety of ways. The offering will include one to one or group sessions, delivery will be face to face at the Marie Curie Hospice, Newcastle and within community groups.

About our Outreach and Communications Assistant role We are looking for a committed Outreach and Communications Assistant Volunteer to join our Education, Training and Employment (ETE) area at IRMO. You will work closely with the ETE Programme Manager in a variety of outreach and communications activities, including the publicity and promotion of all ETE services and activities with external organisations and agencies and potential service users.
Main tasks and responsibilities of the role
● Inform service users of the different services and activities available to them and how to access them through different communication channels.
● Ensure effective referral and signposting pathways for IRMO’ service users according to their needs and circumstances.
● Participate in community coffee mornings as possible and assist the ETE Programme Manager with administrative tasks to organise them.
● Support with the design of flyers and posters and other relevant publicity resources for ETE services and activities as required.
● Implement communication plans with external organisations and agencies to promote ETE area services and activities as instructed.

Our weekly art class provides space and opportunities for adults with learning disabilities to express themselves through creative activities. The group has diverse interests and needs, and we are looking for a volunteer to join the sessions to support people to get the most out of each sessions.
Your role could include setting up activity areas, working 121 with individuals, or in small groups. The class is led by an experienced tutor, and some members of the group also receive support from their support workers.
We are based in a multi-purpose community centre near North Dulwich. You will be part of a small and friendly staff and volunteer team that are all committed to supporting adults with learning disabilities to fully participate in the activities that are important to them.

A bit about this role
As a charity we rely on funds donated by generous members of the public to continue to help cats and kittens in need. Our fundraising volunteers are part of a passionate team that help raise funds to help our feline friends in need. They help plan and deliver exciting and varied fundraising events, which can be anything from craft fairs, cake sales, sponsored abseils – and anything in between!

- Sharing fundraising ideas with other volunteers and putting these into practice

Why we need your help
Clinical staff in our hospices provide a range of activities for patients and their families, which would not be possible without the support of our volunteers. We are looking for Activities Coordinators to help support clinical staff in the hospice by providing a welcoming and safe environment for men affected by terminal illness and by coordinating activity sessions.
What we need you to do
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Provide a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere which is appropriate for activities
- Welcome and chat to patients, carers and widowers
- Plan and deliver a programme of sessions for Men's Shed attendees for the group you are leading
- Promote the Men's Shed within the hospice and the local community
- Identify equipment and material needs for activities and discuss with volunteer line manager
- Help with other related tasks as necessary
What skills or experience do you need?
- Enthusiastic and outgoing with good people skills
- Well organised and confident using your own initiative
- An understanding of the needs of those affected by end-of-life care issues
