Brief role description
Working within our Communications team, you will play a central role in strengthening the charity’s public profile by supporting the delivery of media activity across national, regional, trade and specialist media that showcase the impact of the charity’s services. You will identify newsworthy opportunities, write press releases, pitch stories to journalists and support the delivery of integrated communications campaigns.
A significant part of the role will involve finding, developing and sharing the stories of the people we support. You will interview veterans, service leavers, military spouses and employers, turning their experiences into engaging content for media features, website articles, case studies, social media campaigns, stakeholder communications and funding reports.
This role suits someone with strong news instincts, excellent skills at developing press releases, pitches and statements and the confidence to manage multiple priorities at once. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, varied working environment, be full of creative ideas and know how to unearth stories that bring our services to life.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for an experienced communications, PR or media professional with a proven track record of securing coverage across print, broadcast and online media. You'll have experience working in a press office, communications or journalism environment and be confident handling media enquiries and building positive relationships with journalists and other stakeholders.
You'll be a strong writer who can produce engaging press releases, statements, media briefings and other content for a range of audiences. You'll have a good understanding of what makes a compelling news story, experience creating impactful content, and the ability to turn complex information into clear and engaging communications. You'll also be comfortable using media monitoring and evaluation to understand what is working and help shape future activity.

We need a Chief Executive who sees fundraising at the heart of the charity, and as storytelling with a purpose. We're looking for someone who can shape a communications and brand presence that matches the strength of our reputation, someone with experience in setting direction for external-facing content, comfortable working with fractional expertise to keep our voice consistent and professional, and just as comfortable being the face of that voice themselves. You'll be equally at home talking research priorities with an ophthalmologist as you are meeting a family with an unexpected diagnosis.
This is a hands-on role in a lean, ambitious organisation. You'll hold real responsibility for strategy, governance and our external profile, working closely with a supportive Board of Trustees, but you'll also be close enough to the work to take ownership of the insight and data that prove it's working. We want to hear from you if the idea of taking real ownership of all aspects of running a charity appeals to you, if you are a self starter with the skills to manage a wide range of projects and ideas.
You do not need to have been a Chief Executive before. What you do need is real sector experience, credibility with funders and trustees, and the drive to turn ambition into a deliverable plan. The Academy of Medical Sciences is seeking a Finance Officer to be responsible for ensuring that all transactions are accurately recorded on a timely basis for the Charity and its trading subsidiary, using the Academy’s finance system, and related databases.
As Finance Officer, you will provide accurate and timely information to enquiries from a range of stakeholders, including - but not restricted to - staff, fellows and external suppliers.
The responsibilities of the post include:
Accounting on Finance System:
- Maintain the accounting records (purchase, sales and nominal ledgers) of AMS and AMSTL on the finance system (Iplicit) and assist with the reconciliation of control accounts and production of the monthly trial balance.
- Prepare monthly standard journals (accruals and prepayments) to produce the trial balance and work with the Financial Accountant to provide other period end journals as required.
Purchase ledger:
- Maintain the purchase ledgers of AMS and AMSTL by inputting purchase invoices and expense claims by onto Iplicit and processing payments by BACS (Lloyds Commercial).
- Assist staff with queries about expenses and purchase invoices.
- Ensure that authorisation limits are followed via purchase orders and maintain purchase order log.
Sales ledger:
- Prepare sales invoices for the Academy as necessary under terms of funding arrangements, liaising with relevant teams.
- Monitor and maintain fellowship records, ensuring subscription fees are invoiced and timely and deal promptly with any fellowship finance queries.
- Monitor and ensure all income and donations are correctly reflected on Iplicit and CRM system and that information is shared with the relevant departments.
- Liaise with the contract caterers Searcys on a regular basis to confirm sales on trading company, assisting with queries where needed.
- Upload sales information from the conference database Rendezvous to the finance system and reconcile monthly.
- Monitor receipts against invoices and assist with credit control to minimise the amounts owed by debtors to AMS and AMSTL.
- Support the FORUM staff group regarding invoicing and provision of information regarding receipts and credit control.
Cash management:
- Prepare banking details and bank any income received at the Academy offices on a regular basis.
- Post AMS and AMSTL bank receipts and payments onto Iplicit, preparing bank reconciliations in the finance system.
- Assist the Financial Controller with cash management, including looking at ways to improve the integration of the finance system with the online banking platform to increase automation of bank transactions.
Management accounts and year end:
- Assist with the preparation of monthly budget holder reports and help with queries about variances.
- Assist in preparation of year end accounts and work with the Financial Controller in producing documentation for audit.
- Ensure that all transactions are entered onto with the correct VAT code and assist the Financial Controller in the preparation and submission of VAT returns for the Academy.
Other:
- Provide cover for other Finance Officer
- Support staff who are running meetings and events by providing information on expenditure and income, preparing sales invoices, and assisting with credit control.
- Support the Head of Finance in the continued optimisation of Iplicit.
- Other tasks within the level of the role, and as requested by the Financial Controller, including support of work for the annual audit.
Requirements

- Educated to at least A level or equivalent experience.

- Demonstrable Excel skills & sound working knowledge of other Microsoft applications and database packages.

SANE is a UK-wide mental health charity working to improve the quality of life of anyone affected by mental illness. It aims to raise awareness and understanding of all mental health conditions; fight to improve frontline mental health services for individuals and carers; provide support, information and guidance through SANEline, our Call Back service, email and text support; and promote and host research into causes, treatments and therapies through its Prince of Wales International Centre for SANE research.
We are looking for people interested in providing compassionate support to people affected by mental health problems. This includes supporting people with severe mental illness, and carers, families and friends. In this role you will provide confidential emotional support by telephone, email and text.
This role provides valuable practical experience in providing emotional support to vulnerable people. Working within SANE support services requires a high level of empathy and emotional resilience as well as excellent communication skills. SANE takes take pride in providing a nurturing and supportive environment for both our staff and volunteers. Applications are particularly welcome from individuals with counselling, psychology or therapy qualifications or any other therapeutic disciplines who are committed to providing compassionate mental health support.
Hours: 2-3 days per week which can include weekends, to cover a 7 day service. Shifts generally run from 12-6pm or 12-8pm (some flexibility is available). All work is conducted on-site at SANE’s London office.

Main Purpose of the Post
The Chief Executive will have overall responsibility for all aspects of the day to day running of the RLSS and all its services. Strategy & Leadership and Governance
· Provide visible, ambitious, and focused leadership of the RLSS.
· Be overall responsible for the management of the RLSS working in conjunction with the Chair and Directors to provide leadership.
· Lead and contribute to the Board’s overall development of the strategy and annual plans to ensure achievement of a One Church approach to applying the Church’s safeguarding standards.
· Ensure risks to the overall objectives of the RLSS are identified, mitigated, and reported to the Board.
· Develop a culture of resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning within the organization to navigate challenges and maintain trust among victims/survivors and members.
· Develop and promote services and practice improvements which are designed to mitigate risk and improve understanding within safeguarding.

Website management
- Support the day-to-day running of the charity’s websites, managing updates from across the organisation and ensuring continuous improvement and development of content, layout and structure.
- Support the Digital Manager to work with teams across the charity to ensure all website content is fresh, up-to-date and in line with our key messages, style and tone of voice.
- Support Digital Manager with ensuring websites are compliant, secure, accessible, user-friendly and aligned to brand, communications and organisational objectives.
- Produce content that complies with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 – Level AA) and help promote web accessibility throughout the Organisation.
- Build and maintain online forms, e.g. donations, event entries and data capture.
Campaigns and email marketing
- Assist the Digital Manager and Senior Marketing Manager with paid digital activity on small scale campaigns, covering areas such as paid social and Google ads or search campaigns and boosted posts.
- Contribute to marketing and communications plans for campaigns and projects.
- Support with review and delivery of email communications produced across the organisation to ensure they meet brand and best practice guidelines.
- Support with the creation and management of email communications using DotDigital.

About the Role:
You will provide high quality support to all victims and witnesses of crime and Anti-Social Behaviour, leading on completing initial impact and risk assessments that are comprehensive and holistic. You will also you will contribute to cover for the Helpline.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the first point of contact for service users referred in to the service, completing comprehensive impact and risks assessments using agreed processes and a tailoring the response to each individual's needs.
- Manage a caseload of service users who require more immediate and short term interventions, referring on those with more long term needs either internally or externally.
- Develop support plans where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case management records and contribute to monitoring information for the service and provide accurate and timely performance information for internal and external use.
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns including both child protection and vulnerable adult issues.
- Ensure that everyone is aware of their rights under the Victim's Code of Practice and the Witness Charter..
- Comply and keep up to date with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures, including data protection legislation, confidentiality.
- Work as part of a team to ensure that all outcomes and Key Performance Measures are met relevant to the local contract.
Ideally you will have:
- Experience of delivering a service and working directly with service users in a statutory, voluntary or community work setting
- Experience of working in an outcomes focused service

- Knowledge and understanding of Domestic Abuse processes and services
