Spurgeons is one of the UK’s leading children’s charities, supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged children and their families for 150 years. Inspired by Christian faith and our founder Charles Spurgeon, we’re here for all families. Together, we create family hubs where we’re needed most, with counselling, early years and family support. We partner with local councils, churches and communities to care for every family, putting children and young people first in everything we do. Our services also include parenting support and resources, mental health support for children and young people, and working with families affected by domestic abuse and imprisonment.
These services are needed more than ever, and our current strategy focuses on growth, innovating in partnership with churches, developing online family hubs to expand our reach and ensuring fundraising is a strategic priority. We are ambitious and hopeful about how we can grow to make a significant impact on many more children’s lives in the future.
To support Board succession planning, we are seeking to appoint five new trustees with a range of skills and experience including:
· Fundraising and marketing
· Finance
· Children’s services e.g. senior leadership experience within social services, the care sector, local authorities, health, education, or charitable contexts
· Safeguarding
· Cultural change and transformation
Given an occupational requirement for these roles to be filled by Christians, we are seeking candidates with a personal and active Christian faith who are comfortable and aligned with the statement of faith outlined on our website.
In order to build on our Baptist heritage, we are also keen to ensure that at least one of our trustees is a member of, or has a connection with, the Baptist church.

Volunteer Title:Children’s Advocacy Helpline Volunteer

Our volunteers champion the rights of young people in care and on the edges of care, support them to access advocacy and make their voices heard. Training is provided. Whether you are currently studying, recently graduated, working part-time, retired or between jobs, volunteering with Coram Voice is a great opportunity to make a difference at the same time as gaining experience of working for a national children’s rights charity.
Our Helpline Supervisors will support you to develop valuable advocacy skills and knowledge of children’s rights and we offer specialist training and resources to prepare for you for the role. You will be joining a team that provides quality support to young people in a friendly and supportive environment.
Our volunteer team is integral to our service and we could not provide the service we do without them, particularly in terms of the support we offer to homeless children.
We believe this role will be of particular interest to anyone looking to develop a career involving giving advice, advocacy, children’s and human rights, legal work, social work or youth work; or for professionals in those fields who want to use their experience to support the work of a children’s charity.

Main purpose of the role
The Volunteer Play and Youth Worker will work both indoors and outdoors as a part of the team to support the delivery of play-based and youth activities for children and young people aged 6 to 18 years. Key Responsibilities

Volunteers are a vital part of our Sponsorship Communications Team. As a team, we pride ourselves on delivering the best possible experience for sponsors and children who exchange communications with each other every year. As a volunteer, you will read, log and send these communications between sponsors and sponsored children, making sure they’re in line with our child safeguarding requirements.
We ask our volunteers to dedicate a minimum of 24 days of volunteering across 3-6 months. The role is office-based, and a laptop is provided. Our usual volunteering hours are Monday to Friday 10am-4pm (including an hour lunch). Whilst this role is unpaid, we pay out of pocket expenses of up to £7.00 for lunch and up to £23.60 for travel per day when you are volunteering with us in the office.

WORK
The program of your custom project will be tailored to the duration of your stay and your skills and may include the following components:
* Participarte in outreach trips in the community and provide basic needs such as clothing and food.

*Share daily life with the community and bring joy and connection.
STAY
Volunteers will be accomodated in a hotel/guesthouse near the project site. All basic amenities will be available. Meals can be provided entirely or partially at the project site, upon request.

In the evenings your free to explore the surrounding area and visit surrounding towns or explore nature.

The nearest airport is Entebbe, where you will be met by the project partner.

A bit about this role:
As a charity we can help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations from our supporters. Raising funds is a key role in our charity, helping to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need.
As a fundraising volunteer, we will support you every step of the way to ensure your time at Cats Protection is a positive and rewarding one. Whatever time you can give really does make a big difference We have lots of exciting activities to choose from for example attending a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, handling administrative tasks, or contributing to the development of new fundraising ideas. Whatever your skill set, this role could be perfect for you!
What can you expect to be doing?
As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:
- face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with fundraising events, attending supermarket collections and monitoring collection boxes.
- online fundraising – assisting with online appeals, increasing social media engagement to maximise funds raised.
- bringing new ideas! We always love to come up with new ideas to raise funds for cats and we’d love to help bring yours to life.
- engaging with your local branch and Fundraising Hub and feeling like an integral part of the team.

You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge though Cats Protection’s learn online system, providing you with the skills to thrive as a fundraiser. You’ll also have the chance to meet new people and be part of a dedicated team of volunteers. Money raised by our volunteers enables us to put cats first. Cats are at the centre of all we do. We care for them, ensure their welfare, and help others to understand and better support them.

Time expectation
This role is very flexible, often certain times of the year are busier than others. You can choose your level of involvement to suit your schedule.
Support, guidance and keeping you safe
At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.
The well being of our people is important and at Cats Protection we are committed to safeguarding children, adults at risk and all those that we encounter as part of our activities.

Volunteer Opportunity: Squirrels Section Volunteer
Location: URC Baker Street, Alvaston
When: Mondays, 1 hour per week, 4.30pm-5.30pm
Do you have an hour to spare on a Monday and a willingness to make a big difference to young children? We’re looking for friendly volunteers to join our Squirrels team and help support our weekly sessions.
About Squirrels
Squirrels is the youngest section of Scouts, designed for children aged 4–6. Sessions are fun, active, and varied… from crafts and games to simple challenges that build confidence, teamwork, and curiosity about the world.
The Role
As a Squirrels Volunteer, you’ll support the session leaders during our weekly one hour meetings. Typical tasks include:
- Helping small groups of children take part in activities
- Offering encouragement and gentle guidance
- Supporting games, crafts, and simple challenges
- Helping create a safe, welcoming, and fun environment
You won’t be expected to plan sessions or lead activities, unless you’d like to! This role is all about support and teamwork.
Who We’re Looking For
You will be a great fit if you:
- Are friendly, approachable, and reliable
- Have patience and a calm manner
- Enjoy helping others and being part of a team
- Are happy to get involved and have fun
No previous experience with children is required.
All we ask is a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

You’ll receive full training provided by Scouts HQ, including:
- Safeguarding
- Data protection
- Safety and wellbeing
Training is straightforward, supported, and designed to fit around busy lives.
