End violence against women volunteer roles

Do you want to invest your time supporting women who are marginalised in Tower Hamlets? Do you feel called to social justice and want to do something about it? For over 20 years we have been supporting women involved in selling sex. Many of the women credit our Door of Hope project with being key to their sense of wellbeing whilst on the streets and for some, their exit from selling sex.

We are recruiting new volunteers to continue delivering consistent outreach, early morning, and late evening, spanning different days of the week.

• We need volunteers to work with the women we support. We are looking for women with:
• A vision for reaching out to women involved in/affected by selling sex/sexual exploitation.
• Empathy, compassion and a non-judgmental approach.
• An ability to build trusting relationships whilst maintaining personal boundaries.

What we ask from you

• A regular time commitment to take part in outreach.
• Be available to attend Induction and training sessions (including a Christmas social)
• A commitment to reflective practice – taking good care of yourself, contributing to team or 1-1 supervision, responding reflectively to your experiences with Door of Hope
• An openness to learning and working together.
• Availability to attend team training’s 4-5 events a year (usually on a Monday evening)

We are looking for local volunteers:

• If you live within 8 miles of Tower Hamlets, we can cover the cost of safe transport home via Taxi.
• If you live outside an 8-mile radius of Tower Hamlets it would be helpful if you had access to a car, or be willing to contribute to the cost of a taxi home.

Who are LRMN?

We offer refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants a specialist and holistic service. We advocate for people’s rights, campaign for wider change, meet their basic needs and help them improve their wellbeing.

Why do we need you?

The Women Together Project supports refugee and asylum-seeking women who have experienced trauma, including Gender-Based Violence (rape, torture, FGM, forced marriage, domestic violence etc.). We are a member of the BACP and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework. Our approach is broadly integrative, drawing on woman-centred/ feminist, holistic, cross-cultural and mind-body perspectives.

The project consists of 1-1 counselling and advocacy and a weekly women’s nurture/ health group. 

We are currently seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed female volunteer counsellor to support our work.

What activities will you be involved in?

As a Volunteer Counsellor, you will:

• Offer 1-1 counselling to women from diverse cultures and backgrounds who have experienced trauma, including gender-based violence (this may involve working with an interpreter). This can be done at LRMN’s office or remotely as per clients’ need.

• Meet and maintain our standards regarding confidentiality and equal opportunities, and manage and be accountable for your own work.

• Keep accurate and up-to-date records of all counselling interventions on file and/or electronically.

• Carry out monitoring and evaluation tasks as advised by the Women’s Project Manager.

• Attend team meetings and contribute to information-sharing and discussion around best practice.

• Incorporate project approaches into practice – eg holistic/ feminist/ cross-cultural theories.

• Undertake training in areas relevant to VAWG, refugee and asylum policy and own professional development.

• Work flexibly and from a human rights perspective, remaining open to the challenges faced by this client group.

• Communicate effectively with other members of the therapeutic team and LRMN advice teams, making effective and sensitive referrals where necessary.

• Undertake own clinical supervision either in house or externally.

What can you gain from this opportunity?

By volunteering with LRMN, you will:

• Be part of a small, passionate team working towards improving the lives of some of the most disadvantaged women in UK society

• Monthly group clinical supervision

• Receive direct support and guidance from the Project Manager, as well as additional support from LRMN’s other staff

• Have the chance to attend a monthly team meeting to share information and support (this is not formal supervision)

• Offered places on training organised by LRMN or by external organisations

• Be provided out of pocket expenses to the value of £6 for lunch per day (4+ hours) & up to £15 travel expenses (this applies to qualified volunteers in the office for 4+hours)

Is there induction and training?

Yes, we provide a comprehensive induction to all new volunteers. This covers roles and responsibilities, safeguarding and record keeping.

You will be provided with the training (not clinical) needed to perform the role and will have the opportunity to join training with the whole LRMN team.

East London Rape Crisis provides a range of support services to women and girls affected by sexual violence; including an Information & Support service, counselling, advocacy and group workshops

About the role

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to become part of our team.

Our volunteers support women through our Information & Support Services, providing emotional and practical support to survivors of sexual violence, their friends, family and other professionals via telephone and email support. There are also opportunities to support the team with administrative tasks that do not involve direct contact with survivors.

You will get:

A Fellowship Rooted in Feminist Solidarity

TuWezeshe Akina Dada is a year-long, OCN-accredited leadership programme designed to equip young Black, African and minoritised women with the skills, confidence, and networks to drive real social change.

Rooted in survivor-led, anti-racist, and community-driven principles, the fellowship nurtures bold, politically conscious leaders ready to challenge inequalities across the UK, Africa, and Europe. Led by FORWARD and Home Girls Unite, TuWezeshe is a unique bridge for collective feminist advocacy against Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).

A collaborative initiative involving FORWARD, Home Girls Unite, and a strategic network of partners across the UK, Africa, and Europe.

Everything You Need to Lead

Commitment & Structure 

• Duration: 1-year programme

• Training: 10 weeks, including a residential weekend and in-person final session

Take Your First Step

Join a year-long fellowship that will equip you with everything you need to lead real change — from training and mentorship to funding and a global network.

We're looking for African, Black and minoritised women of any age to mentor the next generation of changemakers tackling violence against women and girls.

You don't need to be an expert or hold a fancy title. You just need to:

• Have a genuine interest in mentoring and supporting young women
• Care about ending gender inequality
• Identify as an African, Black or minoritised woman

As a mentor, you'll be matched with a Fellow aged 18–30 as she leads her own social action project over the course of a year. Our Fellows work across a wide range of projects–from social media campaigns and books to event hosting, community workshops, and more–so whatever your background or experience, there's a Fellow who could benefit from what you bring.

You will be expected to keep in contact with your mentee throughout the year, be available via your preferred contact method, and attend online meetings with your mentor once a month. You are also encouraged to attend an in-person event in mid-December where the fellows pitch their social action projects.

As a charity we can help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations from our supporters. Raising funds is a key role in our charity, helping to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need.

As a fundraising volunteer, we will support you every step of the way to ensure your time at Cats Protection is a positive and rewarding one. Whatever time you can give really does make a big difference We have lots of exciting activities to choose from for example attending a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, handling administrative tasks, or contributing to the development of new fundraising ideas. Whatever your skill set, this role could be perfect for you! 

What can I expect to be doing? 

As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following: 

• Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with our fundraising events, attending supermarket collections or local markets. 

• Distributing collection tins – popping collection tins into local shops and pubs and collecting them when they’re full. 

• Bringing new ideas! - We always love to come up with new ideas to raise funds for cats and we’d love to help bring yours to life. 

• Engaging with your local branches and Fundraising Hub and feeling like an integral part of the team!

Every penny counts when it comes to improving the lives of the thousands of cats and kittens across the UK that need our help each year. Our Collection Box Volunteers help us raise vital funds by collecting and distributing collection boxes in their local area. Making a difference can mean as little as raising 20p, which is enough to feed one cat in our care for a day, to £150 which is the average cost of a cat in our care.

What can I expect to be doing?

As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:

• Researching local shops, pubs and businesses to place Collection Boxes
• Delivering Collection Boxes to locations
• Recording donations and thanking local businesses and supporters
