To do this we bring people together.  We support them to share different views and experiences.  We help them to agree and take action to achieve real change through training, research, networks, collective advocacy and policy. 

The role
We are seeking a Treasurer with experience of financial reporting, oversight and governance to join our Board of Trustees. The right candidate will work closely with the current Treasurer who will provide mentoring support until they step down from the Board in September 2026.

Trustees have individual and collective responsibility to ensure the highest standards of Governance for ARC. You will work with the ARC Chair, Board and Strategic Leadership Team to deliver our strategic vision and help ensure the long-term future and success of ARC. The Treasurer is a trustee that offers strategic and financial oversight of the charity.

The ARC Board of Trustees meet four times a year; one in-person and three online, so the role will require a degree of travel and the occasional overnight stay.  Our Board is inclusive of people with additional needs who are experts by experience. 

This is a voluntary position.  Your travel and other out of pocket expenses will be paid.

About you 
You have experience of financial reporting, oversight and governance of a charity. A financial qualification would be helpful.

· You have experience of delivering positive social change, either in your professional or personal life. 

· You are a leader in social care, delivering or improving the support people get. 

· You have experience monitoring the financial matters of a charity.

Terms of Office

This post may be held for a term of 3 years, then the post holder may stand for re-election for a further 3 years, after which time the post holder must stand down.

Person Specification

· A commitment to the values and principles of human rights, equality and inclusion.

· Understanding of the experiences of people with learning disabilities, autistic people, or people with other support needs - and their families.

· Knowledge and experience of accounting practices for corporate governance

· Knowledge and experience of financial regulations governing charities and companies

Stepping Stones Learning and Leisure is a small, friendly charity based in Southwark, providing inclusive activities for adults with learning disabilities. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Dance Fit Class Volunteer to support our weekly Thursday afternoon classes (1pm-3pm), held at St Faith’s Community Centre, Red Post Hill, SE24 9JQ (close to North Dulwich and Herne Hill stations). 

About Dance Fit

Dance Fit is a fun way to stay active through music and movement. Sessions are designed to improve fitness, flexibility and confidence in a supportive and enjoyable environment. Routines and exercises can be performed standing or seated, making the sessions accessible for everyone. The group learns simple routines that can also be practised at home, and each July learners have the opportunity to perform to friends and family at our Summer Show!

About The Role 

This role is ideal for someone who loves to move. You’ll support our tutor in delivering inclusive and fun classes for a small group of adults with learning disabilities. Every class is an opportunity for the learners to express themselves freely, socialise with others and feel the benefits of physical activity on their wellbeing.

As a Dance Fit Class Volunteer at Stepping Stones, you will: 

• Assist the tutor in setting up and closing down the studio space
• Encourage and support learners 
• Demonstrate movements
• Offer 1:1 or group support where needed to help participants engage 
• Help build a warm, inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels safe to express themselves

We're looking for someone with a background in drama to support our tutor in delivering accessible and fun drama sessions for a small group of adults with learning disabilities. Each year, the group works towards a production which is performed at our end-of-year Summer Show, making this a fun, creative, and rewarding volunteering opportunity.

As a Drama Class Volunteer at Stepping Stones, you will:

• Encourage and support learners during rehearsals and performances
• Help with setting up props, costumes and resources for sessions
• Participate alongside learners where appropriate
• Offer 1:1 or group support where needed to help participants engage

Every class will be an opportunity to learn new gardening skills, from pulling weeds to sowing seeds. With your help, we aim to provide our learners with a sense of pride and satisfaction at having nurtured a growthful space with others, whilst learning invaluable skills along the way. 

As a Gardening Club Volunteer at Stepping Stones, you will:

• Encourage and support learners
• Assist the tutor in setting up and putting away gardening tools
• Demonstrate tasks and participate alongside learners
• Undertake light manual tasks where necessary and follow health and safety guidelines

We're currently visiting Herne Hill Velodrome with Wheels For Wellbeing and we are looking for people who would be willing to participate alongside our learners.

About The Role

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys connecting with others. In Social Club you’ll support our tutor in encouraging learners to participate in a variety of fun activities which aim to nurture the supportive relationships between our learners and enhance their wellbeing, joy and sense of belonging.

As a Social Club Volunteer at Stepping Stones, you will:

• Assist the tutor in providing fun and stimulating activities
• Play a part in ensuring the health and safety of learners when offsite
• Offer 1:1 or group support where needed to help participants engage

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

This is a Stop and stay, let’s get busy visitor role which means the person you will be visiting can communicate actively with you and take part in choosing or planning activities. The beneficary enjoys playing video games, watching westerns, remote control cars and having a cuppa a chat.  They are not as agile as they once were but can go for a short walk to the cafe around the corner.   Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around an hour or longer, depending on what you do.

We are currently looking for a volunteer to help support our bi-weekly Link Group meeting.

The Link Group is a group of approx. 6 – 8 people with learning disabilities and one Speak Out staff facilitator who meet every two weeks on a Tuesday morning. We work with the Learning Disability Partnership Board, a group of LD providers and BHCC decision makers, to represent the views of the learning disability community in Brighton and Hove. We run surveys and consultations with the LD community to get their views on local issues and policy, as well as working directly with Council teams to design good policy and deliver accessible events.

Recent examples of this are the survey we did about the state of activities and services in Brighton and Hove post-Covid; and working with the Council's Healthy Lifestyles team to make their annual sports and physical activities festival. TakePart, more accessible for people with learning disabilities.

What the role involves:

• Being available for 2 hours every other week to provide self-advocacy group support at Speak Out offices or an alternative venue in the community
• You will be present to support people in a group setting
• You may be required to attend the Learning Disability Partnership board quarterly
• You will adhere to Speak Out’s Code of Practice
• You may be required to help clear up at the end of sessions.

Mencap’s goal is to make the UK the best place in the world for people with a learning disability to lead happy and healthy lives. To help us with this, we are currently looking for a volunteer to help support a person with a learning disability to travel to meetings or events.

The Travel Buddy Volunteer will support a Voices Council member who is a person with a learning disability (and possibly other disabilities) to attend a Voices Council meeting 4 times a year to travel from Wales to London and one regional meeting a year that is not in London. If you can even commit to one meeting a year, we would love to hear from you

By supporting someone with a learning disability to travel to their destination on public transport you will be making a huge difference and enabling them to attend meetings and events.

On these journeys you can also help give them the confidence and skills they need to eventually feel comfortable travelling independently.​

This role is ad hoc, and is only required when requested, but we will give as much advanced notice as possible to ensure you can be available when you are required. ​

We will cover your travel expenses to and from the volunteering destination, as well as the journey you will be supporting the person to take.​

We support a fun loving chap in his 50s in Honiton who would love for someone to accompany him out of the house for some fun just 6 times a year. What you get up to is up to you, but some ideas might include:

• The cinema
• Going out for a walk
• Taking in a football or rugby match
• A cuppa in a café
• Out for lunch (he loves a curry)

but between you you might think of something else - he is an enthusiastic and friendly person and really is up for anything!

Your admission to matches, films etc. will be covered as a carer admission. Your travel expenses would also be reimbursed. He lives close to the train station.

Any day of the week would be fine for a visit, but Mondays and weekends are likely inconvenient.

You do not need experience with learning disabilities for this role, just a friendly personality!

We are busy team delivering the Supported Internships programme in Birmingham. The programme is based around employment and leisure for young adults with learning disabilities between age 16 and 25. We help people to develop skills for work in a employment setting and build their confidence.

We prepare them for work, and help them improve their Maths and English skills in a classroom setting, as well as:

• Improving their confidence and communication skills
• Building on their social skills with each other and out in the community
• Keeping them inspired and engaged

What You will be doing:

• You will support staff in the classroom with activities
• You will support learners to improve their Maths and English skills
• You will engage with learners, to improve their confidence and independence
• You will encourage learners to try new things and gain new skills
• Out in the community you will support staff to keep learners motivated and engaged

As a volunteer you will help Mencap staff deliver the classroom sessions assisting young adults to improve their skills, and be a support in the community.

The classroom sessions run from 9am - 3.30pm, Tuesday to Friday. We would require a volunteer to be able to commit to the same day each week. The programme runs for a school academic year of 9 months from September 2026.

Our retail roles are varied and fun. You could be sorting donations from the public, dressing our window or serving customers on the till. There are many people from different walks of life and it's a great way to get practical experience and to meet new people.

This role will take place on a weekly basis for a few hours We will try our best to be flexible around the best time for you, but also need to consider the store opening times and volunteer rota. It could be a weekday or weekend, morning or afternoon, our stores are usually open 7 days a week. We’d appreciate any time that you can spare.

Whilst in the store, you will help with activities based on the needs of the Store Manager. 

Tasks you could get up to whilst volunteering could include:

• Serving customers on the till
• Taking stock donations from the public
• Tagging and steaming stock for the shop floor
• Dressing the window displays
• Asking people to join us as a volunteer

As a Retail Volunteer you will be:

• Friendly and Approachable

• Willing to volunteer within guidelines and to take direction where necessary

As a Mencap volunteer you will:

• Make new friends and raise important funds for people with a learning disability
• Get reasonable out-of-pocket expenses in line with our policy e.g. travel
• Receive full Training and support
• Volunteer alongside other people
• Have a chance to give back your local community
