Why we want you

As branch chair you and your branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community. To ensure that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

What you will be doing

• Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising activities so that potential beneficiaries, volunteers and supporters are aware of SSAFA as first in mind for support.
• Building relationships with the regional and national SSAFA team, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA serving community teams, local military establishments, etc.
• Attending events as a key SSAFA representative.
• Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s central office
• Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.
• Working with other volunteers, regional and national team members to attract and recruit new volunteers as required.
• Work closely with the community engagement co-ordinator to recruit, welcome, induct, support, and manage volunteers in line with SSAFA policies, such as the Volunteering Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Data Protection Policy, and Safeguarding Policy.

Join our team of befrienders! You will support us to reach some of the most isolated adults in your community to reduce their feelings of loneliness, build friendships and provide support for mental wellbeing. You will support people to relight a spark to continue a hobby, interest or encourage them to explore and participate in new social activities.

You will support individuals to rebuild their lives beyond crisis.

Loneliness and isolation can affect anyone in life, whatever their age or family situation. Official data from the Office for National Statistics shows that rates of depression doubled during the COVID pandemic, and one of the major causes of depression is isolation.

Hestia has a variety of different services that support people across London and the South East. These services support people that are struggling with their mental health, are victims of Domestic Abuse or Modern Slavery, and more. Join our team of volunteers who play a vital role in what we do!

Face-to-face locations include Islington, Hounslow, Hillingdon, Berkshire, Lambeth, Kingston, Merton, Barbican, Slough, Reading and Croydon

What you will be doing

• To encourage your befriendee to engage in social activities and support them in doing so whilst building their confidence

How will I be ending homelessness?

Based in or near one of our Skylight offices, you will be supporting people to share their experiences in ways that feel comfortable to feed into our fundraising work. 

This role would support us in implementing our story processes and completing story write ups to bring real life experiences to life and show the impact of Crisis’ work to get more donors, increase awareness and challenge perceptions.

This will inspire more people to support and/or donate to Crisis to end homelessness.

What will I be doing?

As a volunteer within our Stories team, you will:

• Support people accessing Crisis at Christmas services to share their stories through Crisis in line with best practice guidelines
• Build relationships with lead workers and the local Skylight teams to raise awareness of stories work 
• To support colleagues in the stories team by completing write-ups of stories from the Christmas period

Who are we looking for? 

Someone with drive, ambition, and passion to enhance our storytelling work. We welcome people from a variety of experiences and professional backgrounds with the desire to support achieving our mission to end homelessness 

• Ability to interview individuals about their experiences sensitively and to frame follow-up questions to support individuals to build their own narratives.
• Ability to build relationships and rapport with a wide range of people.
• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Understanding of the importance of protecting the dignity of people who are sharing their stories and experiences.
• Ability to work as part of a team towards shared goals and objectives.
• A commitment to completing any training (including e-learning) required for the role.  
• You will need access to your own computer and broadband/data.

South Asian Arts-UK (SAA-uk) is a Leeds-based charity and recognised centre of excellence dedicated to celebrating, teaching, and evolving South Asian classical music and dance. • Online group or one-to-one “Let’s Talk Board!” sessions (20–30 minutes), taking place during the week commencing 19 January 2026. These sessions offer a friendly conversation with a Board member, facilitated by the Senior Administration Officer, including an overview of Board responsibilities and time for questions. Interest can be indicated within the application form.

• In-person sessions at the office, available on request during the week commencing 26 January 2026. These sessions will be scheduled only if requested, to ensure they remain manageable for Trustees.
