Topics may include mindfulness, creative arts, physical fitness, nutrition or other wellbeing-related activities.

Main Responsibilities:

- Lead and deliver wellbeing workshops on agreed topics.

- Prepare and set up the space, ensuring all materials and resources are available and organised for each session.

- Create a supportive and inclusive environment where participants feel comfortable to learn, share, and engage in discussions.

- Encourage connections between participants.

- Provide guidance, encouragement, and practical tips to help participants integrate wellbeing practices into their daily lives.

Skills and Qualities Required:

- Expertise or experience in one or more wellbeing areas such as mindfulness, creative arts, fitness, nutrition, or similar.

Are you passionate about animal welfare and wanting to make a difference to the lives of cats and kittens in the York area? Join us as a Foster Coordinator to support the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of cats and kittens. 

Role overview:

As the Volunteer Foster Coordinator, you will play a vital role in managing our foster program for cats in our care. This position is essential for ensuring that our cats are placed in loving, temporary homes while they await adoption. You will collaborate closely with foster carers, potential adopters, and other volunteers to create a supportive environment that benefits both the cats and their fosters.

Key responsibilities:

• Foster management: Oversee the onboarding and ongoing support of foster carers.

• Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for foster carers, addressing any questions or concerns and providing necessary updates. Communication will primarily occur through email and messaging platforms, access to facebook and Whatapp is essential.

• Training and support: Provide guidance and resources to foster carers on cat care, behaviour, and best practices to ensure the well-being of the cats in their care and ensuring our policies and procedures are upheld.

• Record keeping: Maintain organised and accurate records of foster placements, including intake forms, health updates, and feedback from foster homes.

• Coordination of resources: Ensure that foster homes have the necessary supplies (food, litter, etc.) and access to veterinary care as needed.

• Post-Foster follow-up: Check in with fosterers to gather feedback and facilitate any transitions to permanent homes, ensuring a smooth process for both the cats and their fosters.

What we’re looking for:

• Passion for animal welfare: A strong commitment to the well-being of cats and a desire to support their journey to permanent homes.

• Excellent communication skills: Ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with foster carers and the volunteer team.

• Organisational skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple foster placements simultaneously.

• Computer proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and communication platforms such as email and social media.

• Previous experience in animal rescue: Preferred but not essential; a willingness to learn and grow in this role is important. It is essential, however, to have experience and knowledge of cat health and behaviour.

Purpose of the Role:

To support the delivery of engaging and inclusive academic sessions for newly arrived migrant girls aged 11 19 at the Baytree Centre as part of the Arrive and Thrive programme. The role involves assisting teachers in creating a positive and supportive learning environment, helping students with subjects such as ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and Maths, and providing one-to-one support to those needing extra assistance. By offering guidance, encouragement, and structured support, the volunteer will contribute to the girls’ confidence, academic progress, and integration into formal education.

Main Responsibilities:

- Collaborate with teachers in delivering ESOL and Maths lessons.

- Provide one-to-one support to students, helping them overcome learning challenges and participate actively in lessons.

- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel supported and able to contribute.

- Encourage students’ academic progress while promoting motivation and engagement.

Skills and Qualities Required:

- Strong academic background, ideally with GCSE or degree-level education in Maths and/or English, enabling competent academic support.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and language levels.

- Patience and empathy to support students with varying learning paces and needs. - Enthusiasm for creating a supportive and engaging learning experience.

- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other volunteers.

About the Service

Our Information & Advice service provides free, confidential and independent support to people aged 50 and over. We are looking for a reliable and confident volunteer to help clients complete important paper and online forms.

About the Role

As a volunteer, you will help older people complete welfare benefit applications, online application forms, and other documents in person, by telephone or during a home visit. Your clear and accurate support can help clients overcome complex forms, health barriers or limited digital skills.

Task may include:

• Help clients complete paper and online forms accurately.
• Explain practical next steps within the boundaries of your training and role.
• Support appointments at our offices and outreach venues, by telephone, and in clients’ homes.
• Data entry to ensure clear and accurate records of client contact
• Work closely with staff and other volunteers

Various Locations in Sandwel with home visits - a link to a pin pointed map of key areas can be provided

Who would this role be suitable for?

· This role would suit someone who is patient, caring and non-judgemental, with strong communication, literacy and digital skills.

· You will need to be confident using IT systems and online forms, able to explain information clearly and comfortable handling personal information confidentially.

· Experience in administration, advice, teaching, health or social care may be helpful, but it is not essential.

· Full role-specific training will be provided before you begin supporting clients independently.

Training

You will receive core volunteer training, GDPR and data protection training, form-filling training and guidance on lone working. You will initially work alongside experienced staff in office and outreach settings.

There may also be an opportunity to work towards a Level 2 qualification in Information, Advice or Guidance and to access optional adviser training over approximately 12 months. Although this does not guarantee employment, it can provide valuable knowledge, skills and experience.

Due to the training involved and the nature of the work, we are ideally looking for volunteers who can offer regular, longer-term support.

Working Safely

The service completes a risk assessment before every client home visit. Volunteers must use the lone-working app and follow all agreed safeguarding, confidentiality and safety procedures.

DBS

A DBS check is required for this role. Risk assessments are completed before home visits, and volunteers are supported to follow all safeguarding, confidentiality and lone-working procedures.

Title:  Operations Lead

About the Role: We are looking for an organised, self-motivated Coordinator to manage our communications and inbox operations independently. You will be the primary point of contact for our volunteer teachers, ensuring smooth operations by following our clear organisation handbook and protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inbox Triage & Teacher Support: Answer routine teacher inquiries independently using established SOPs and the Teacher Handbook. 

• Issue Resolution: Address logistics or schedule friction between teachers and students. 

• Safeguarding Escalation: Identify sensitive issues or trauma reports and immediately route them to the Safeguarding Officer per protocol.

• Teacher Onboarding: Lead the onboarding process for new teacher cohorts (once every three months).

• Match students: Match students with teachers (once every three months)

Qualifications:

• Excellent English written and verbal communication.

• Proficiency in Arabic, French, or German is a strong asset.

• Strong decision-making skills; ability to read policy documentation and act without constant supervision.

• High interpersonal skills, patience, and professional judgment.

• Reliable, detail-oriented, and accountable for completing tasks end to end.

Time Commitment:

• 4 days/week (approximately totalling 4–5 hours per week).

• Minimum commitment: 16 weeks (4 months).

As a Gardening Volunteer, you’ll work alongside staff and residents to care for the garden at Amadeus House and to co‑create engaging gardening sessions. Together, you’ll help maintain an inclusive, therapeutic outdoor space by sharing gardening skills, supporting hands‑on tasks, and contributing ideas for seasonal or themed activities. Your involvement will help make the garden a shared, welcoming environment that supports residents’ wellbeing and recovery.

Tasks may include:

• Taking a lead role in the garden’s day‑to‑day care and upkeep, working collaboratively with staff and residents.
• Maintaining the garden so it remains safe, tidy, welcoming, and vibrant — including planting, watering, pruning, and general tidying.
• Organising and delivering gardening sessions with residents, teaching and learning basic gardening skills together in an inclusive way.
• Supporting residents with hands‑on tasks such as planting, weeding, composting, and harvesting.
• Planning and delivering seasonal gardening activities (e.g., spring planting, autumn tidy‑ups) in collaboration with residents and staff.
• Helping develop themed areas such as herb gardens, raised beds, or flower and vegetable plots, encouraging shared ownership and creativity.
• Accompanying residents on visits to garden centres or local green spaces as part of gardening projects.

Why did you want to become a Lead Volunteer?

I chose to volunteer at Mind, specifically because of the cause – I support the charity in what they want to achieve. Mind also supported me through the lockdown period during the pandemic, which I found very isolating.

I’ve volunteered for Mind for 20 years - I started volunteering for Mind in 2005. At the time, I had a full-time job, but I wanted to try volunteering. I’ve volunteered in a number of Mind shops, including Wallsend, Whitley Bay, Gateshead (which was where I became a Lead Volunteer) and finally, North Shields.

I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer to gain more experience, which I can then pass onto others. I now undertake key holder duties in my current shop. It was a little scary to begin with, but there was plenty of support from the wider region and I feel really proud to now be doing the role.

What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?

I’ve developed my technology skills – I’ve learnt how to use the till, how to use the computer including emails and Microsoft Teams, how to complete eLearning and the new Gift Aid hub. I struggled a bit before with technology, so it’s really helped me to be exposed to it more. I’ve also developed cash handling skills and how to deal with external contractors. My confidence has really grown and I’m also now able to cover local stores too!

What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?

I really enjoy giving amazing customer service and working with the team of staff and volunteers – we have lots of fun whilst we work! The shop has a great atmosphere. My Shop Manager has said she couldn’t do without me! I would really recommend for anyone to come and volunteer with Mind – it’s a great way to meet new people.

Why did you want to become a Lead Volunteer?

I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer because I wanted to take on more responsibilities and keep myself as productive as possible. By taking on more responsibilities, I’m able to support the wider team with certain activities within the shop. It’s also helped me become less focused on my myself and my own problems. I suffer from low self-esteem and felt that by becoming a Lead Volunteer, it would help strengthen my self-worth.

What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?

As I have never worked in retail, becoming a Lead Volunteer has given me more insight into how the retail industry and how Mind Retail operates day-to-day. I have become more patient and not as isolated as before. My communication skills have improved too.

What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?

Certain customers are confiding in me about their mental health. I find it great to be able to assist and provide some support. We all just need an ear to listen…

It’s also great to be able to make decisions too. The team I work with at the shop are very supportive and understanding – they look after me and I feel like a belong to a small family. The team really understand that our shops are not just shops! They’re a place where everyone, including those with mental health problems, can feel safe and listened to.

We are seeking new Trustees to join our Board and contribute their skills and experience. We are particularly looking for applications from parents and carers whose children attend our Camden Square and Fairfield playcentres. 
 
The trustees are responsible for the administration of the charity, and in contributing to strategies that will future-proof the organisation and help to maintain or improve its CQC and Ofsted ratings.

As a charity we can help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations from our supporters. Raising funds is a key role in our charity, helping to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need.

As a fundraising volunteer, we will support you every step of the way to ensure your time at Cats Protection is a positive and rewarding one. Whatever time you can give really does make a big difference We have lots of exciting activities to choose from for example attending a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, handling administrative tasks, or contributing to the development of new fundraising ideas. Whatever your skill set, this role could be perfect for you!

It is a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:

o face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with fundraising events, attending supermarket collections and monitoring collection boxes.

o online fundraising – assisting with online appeals, increasing social media engagement to maximise funds raised.

o bringing new ideas! - We always love to come up with new ideas to raise funds for cats and we’d love to help bring yours to life.

o engaging with your local branch and Fundraising Hub and feeling like an integral part of the team.

You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge though Cats Protection’s learn online system, providing you with the skills to thrive as a fundraiser.  You’ll also have the chance to meet new people and be part of a dedicated team of volunteers.

Money raised by our volunteers enables us to put cats first. Cats are at the centre of all we do. We care for them, ensure their welfare, and help others to understand and better support them.

Our Fundraising Volunteer roles are very flexible, often certain times of the year are busier than others. You can choose your level of involvement to suit your schedule!

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.

The difference you will make to cats and people

From elderly moggies to energetic kittens, every day across the UK cats and kittens are in need of a temporary place to stay, and lots of love and TLC! We need more fosterers like you to provide a safe, temporary haven for cats and kittens and provide them with everything they need before they get their chance to land on their four paws and make a house a home.

You can expect us to

• Ensure you have all you need in place to foster the cat(s) in your care, for example equipment and food
• Cover all your foster cats’ expenses and agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy

A bit more information about this role and the team

Fosterers open their hearts and homes, looking after cats until they’re adopted.

To be a fosterer:

• you will require your own home, or written permission from your landlord to foster cats
• to be 18 years or older
• experience of caring for pets or a willingness to learn about care care. We can provide all the training and support you need 
• a good-sized room in your house just for your foster cat, or a garden or suitable outdoor space where we can put an outdoor pen 
• access to transport to take your cat to any appointments 

What we need from you 

• A stable, safe and compassionate environment in your home or in a purpose-built pen in your garden provided by us
• Enrich the cats’ experience in care including play, exercise and appropriate handling/interaction
• A willingness to complete some training in order to provide high standards of cat welfare
• Introduce cats to prospective adopters so they can find their forever home

Time expectation

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend around one and a half hours per day (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care.
