As a Shop Volunteer you’ll be joining a friendly, welcoming team of volunteers and staff who support each other and have a lot of fun along the way. We value every volunteer and the unique perspective, skills and energy you bring. 

Whether you’re sorting donations, creating beautiful displays, or chatting to customers, every task you take on helps to build a more inclusive world. 

We value volunteer development, and as part of this role you can develop your skills further by training to become a till user alongside your regular shop volunteer responsibilities, or progressing into a Key volunteer, a role which includes opening, running, and closing the shop in the absence of the manager.

Aim of this role
Research and Campaigns volunteers support our work to change the policies and practice that affect the lives of our clients.

As an R&C volunteer, you will be a part of the R&C team. You will:

• complete an induction to Citizens Advice and training for your role

• keep up-to-date with trends of the concerns affecting clients locally as well as areas identified by national Citizens Advice, and raise call for evidence

• research and gather quality information on key issues affecting local residents

• ensure all volunteers/staff are aware of the purpose of Research and Campaigns and how to write evidence forms

• produce useful, appealing and easily accessible campaign materials and publications for information purposes

• feed back to assessors and advisers on the results of their work and provide them with assistance in completing evidence forms

• help national Citizens Advice to carry out research about how certain issues affect clients in your local area

• gather case studies and client stories

• ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion are promoted in our R&C work

• adhere to Citizens Advice Merton and Lambeth’s (CAML) aims and principles

• comply with all relevant GDPR rules and regulations

Locations

This role is based in our Mitcham office with some occasional traveling to our other offices in Morden and Kennington. All three offices are well-connected to public transport, and the office in Mitcham has a car park.

We will reimburse all reasonable out of pocket travel and lunch expenses.

Treasurer/Finance Lead Trustee

Remuneration: The role of Treasurer is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed

Reports to: Board of Trustees

Key relationships: Chair, Trustees, Head of Finance & Central Services, CEO

Location: Southampton

Time commitment: Board and Committee meetings

Objective

The Treasurer will oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements. The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for the charity.

Principal responsibilities

1.1. Oversee and approve budgets, accounts, financial statements and financial reports to the Board of Trustees after discussion with the Head of Finance & Central Services.

1.2. Seek assurance that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs and are within the charity’s objects

1.3. Instrumental in the development and implementation of appropriate financial, reserves and investment policies

Main duties:

1.4. Liaise with the Head of Finance & Central Services to ensure that the charity’s annual accounts are compliant with the current Charities SORP.

1.5. Ensure that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place

1.6. Overview insurance to confirm that the organisation is fully covered, ensuring that equipment and assets are adequately maintained and insured

1.7. Advise on the financial implications of the organisation's strategic plans

1.8. Chair the Finance & Fundraising Committee

1.9. Liaise with the charity’s auditors where appropriate

1.10. Keep the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities

1.11. Contribute to the fundraising strategy of the organisation

1.12. Make a formal presentation of the Accounts at the Annual General Meeting, drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way

Person Specification

Role Title: Treasurer

The Board of Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the probity of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

All trustees should also be aware of, and understand, their individual and collective responsibilities, and should not be overly reliant on one or more individual trustee in any particular aspect of the governance of the charity.

Experience:

Individuals are sought who have a strong empathy with Rose Road’s Visions and Values and an understanding of its work.

· Experience of working in finance (preferably with a financial qualification)

· Successful experience of operating within a board in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation

· Demonstrable experience of building and sustaining relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues to achieve organisational objectives

Events Volunteer - Lancashire (various)

This role involves supporting at a range of events to help raise money and awareness to tackle the housing emergency. It’s a really flexible opportunity. Once you’re signed up, we’ll let you know about upcoming events and tasks, and you can decide which you’d like to do.

Suggested contribution: It’s up to you! Ideally, you’d help out at least 4-5 times per year, but this is flexible. 

Availability: This is a varied opportunity with events taking place at different times and on different days throughout the year, including evenings and weekends. You can choose the events that best suit your availability.

This is a flexible and diverse role. Here are some of the activities you might get involved in:

• Represent us at a range of events including, community fairs, gigs, Pride marches, sporting events and street stalls.

• Support some of our fundraising activity such as holding collection cans in public spaces or bag packing in supermarkets.

• Help us grow our movement for change by supporting petitions and raising awareness of our calls to action through social media.

• Other one-off tasks such as web-based research.

This role fights the housing emergency by raising funds that enable Shelter to provide advice and support and campaigning for change. The events you’ll be attending are also great for raising awareness of the housing emergency and how people can get involved to help tackle it.

The Coroners' Courts Support Service (CCSS) is a registered Charity whose trained volunteers give emotional and practical support to bereaved families and other witnesses attending an inquest.

We need volunteers to provide emotional support and practical help to bereaved families, witnesses and others attending Inquests at Coroners' Court. Our volunteers at court also provide help and assistance to the Coroners' Officers, as and when required.

We are looking for reliable, supportive people with excellent communication skills. A mature and calm attitude is needed in order to be able to talk to people during a sometimes bewildering and emotional experience. Volunteers must be willing to undergo a period of observations and shadowing, as well as attend a 3 day training course. A minimum commitment of one day (9:00am - 5:00pm) per fortnight is asked for. Training and mentoring is provided and travel expenses to the court are reimbursed.

As Volunteer Company Secretary, you will be the "conscience of the charity," ensuring that our Trustee and Executive Team operates within its legal and regulatory framework to ensure our beneficiaries receive the highest standard of care and support. 

This is a vital role at the heart of the charity’s operations and offers the opportunity to help shape the governance of a high-impact charity. 

You will provide the bridge between the Board and the executive team, contributing directly to the Trust’s mission by underpinning strong governance and accountability at Board level. By ensuring compliance, transparency, and well-run meetings, you will support the Trustee and executive team to make informed strategic decisions that enhance opportunities, independence, and wellbeing for adults with neuro-disabilities. 

You will:  

• Manage our core administration, ensuring governance and compliance documents, records and processes are kept up to date; including managing filings with Companies House and the Charity Commission, and managing the conflicts of interest register.
• Support the Board and CEO with meeting management; helping to prepare agendas, minutes, board packs and maintain a robust rolling action log.
• Ensure good governance, keeping us aligned with legal and regulatory requirements; always advising best practice and updating the board on the Charity Governance Code.
• Support the Trustee onboarding process, helping us to stay structured and efficient. 
• Be the organisational backbone, helping Minstead Trust to stay steady, safe and well run.

What are we looking for?  

• Commitment to our Mission: an understanding of, or interest in, the challenges faced by those living with neuro-disabilities and a willingness to lead according to our values.

• You have prior experience as a Company Secretary, Governance Officer, or Senior Administrator, ideally within the UK charity or public sector. (Essential)

• You have exceptional minute-taking skills and the ability to synthesize complex discussions into concise, professional records.

We value volunteer development, and as part of this role your can develop your skills further by training to become a till user alongside your regular shop volunteer responsibilities, or progressing into a Key volunteer, a role which includes opening, running, and closing the shop in the absence of the manager.

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

Key responsibilities: Shop volunteer 

You’ll spend time doing a range of activities, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service, helping create a wonderful shopping experience.
• Receiving donated items from the public, thanking them for their support.
• Sorting, steaming and preparing donations for sale.
• Helping to display stock in eye-catching and exciting ways.
• Keeping the shop floor clean, safe and tidy.
• Talking to customers about Sense and the work we do.

Key responsibilities: Till volunteer

Being a till volunteer includes all the same responsibilities as a shop volunteer, however, when you’re ready, we’ll provide you with additional training to:

• Serve customers on the till in a warm and friendly way.
• Put sales through the till, packing them and thanking the customer for shopping with us.
• Talk to customers about Gift Aid and other fundraising initiatives.

Key responsibilities: Key volunteer 

Being a Key volunteer includes all the same responsibilities as a shop and till volunteer. However, if you’re interested in taking on additional responsibilities, you can train to become a Key Volunteer, helping the shop manager by:

• Helping supervise the shop and other volunteers.
• Supporting the shop manager to make sure customers have a great experience.
• Opening and closing the shop when needed.
• Cashing up at the end of the day.

Trustees are the guardians of a charity's purpose, providing leadership, oversight and strategic direction to ensure the organisation remains effective, sustainable and focused on delivering its mission.

As a trustee of Headway UK, you will join a committed board working collectively to support and challenge the executive team, safeguard the charity's reputation and resources, and help shape its future priorities.

Having conducted a knowledge, skills and experience audit, we are particularly looking broaden the collective expertise of the board by recruiting new trustees with the following skills:

Please note that the difference between the two application deadlines relates to the charity’s Articles of Association, which require nominations from the network to be received 42 clear days before the date of the forthcoming AGM to be held on 17 September.

Unreal offers support and information to people with lived experience of Depersonalisation and Derealisation (DPDR) - including people experiencing symptoms themselves and their carers, friends and families. We aim to raise awareness of DPDR, provide up-to date clinically-validated information, signpost people to relevant resources, push for policy change, assist in research studies and enable people living with DPDR to speak with others through our flagship Peer Support Programme to help support each other.

We are supported by a dedicated network of volunteers and ambassadors whose expertise and lived experience are central to what we do.

Despite being a small and relatively young charity, officially founded in 2019, we have established ourselves as the leading voice on DPDR in the UK and are proud of what we have achieved.

Unreal enters this next chapter from a position of real strength. We have established ourselves as the leading charity for DPDR in the UK, with a peer support programme that continues to grow in demand, strong relationships with clinicians, policymakers and researchers, and a clear strategic direction.

We have recently set our key priorities for 2026 to 2030, and we are looking for new board members who are excited to help us deliver on that ambition.

This is a significant moment for the charity. We are recruiting for trustees at a time when we have strong foundations, a clear sense of purpose, and real momentum. The people who join us now will help shape the next chapter of Unreal.

Time commitment

• Board meetings: monthly (9 per year), held online

All reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out your role as a trustee will be reimbursed in line with our expenses policy.

We are not looking for a particular type of person. We are looking for the right people. Within our trustees and board, we aim to bring together a range of skills, backgrounds and perspectives.

In addition to the specified roles below, we will also be recruiting more widely, and welcome applications from anyone who fulfils the below general criteria.

We ask all trustees to commit to a term of three to four years. The Chair may be appointed for a term of up to five years.

Trustees of Unreal must meet the following eligibility criteria. Please check these before applying.

You must:

• Be 18 years of age or older

• Not be automatically disqualified under the Charities Act 2011. This includes any person: with undischarged bankruptcy those who has been declared bankrupt; that has entered into an IVA; been disqualified as a company director; or that has certain unspent criminal convictions relating to dishonesty, fraud or contempt of court

• Have no safeguarding restrictions that would prevent you from working with vulnerable people

• Be willing to declare any conflicts of interest and to complete a DBS check

All trustees are expected to uphold Unreal's Code of Conduct for Board Members. A copy will be shared with shortlisted candidates and must be signed on appointment.

• Relevant professional, leadership, governance or lived experience would be advantageous.

What we need from you

• Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping at fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, and monitoring collection tins

• Marketing and promotion – spreading the word about fundraising activities via social media and local press
• Administration – processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, and completing Gift Aid paperwork
• Championing our work – helping to develop new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
• Photography – capturing images of cats in care, cats we’re helping, fundraising events, and all things Cats Protection
