Surrey Coalition of Disabled People is looking to recruit new trustees to join our Board and help shape the future of our organisation.

We are a Disabled People's Organisation, led by and for Disabled people. We work to remove barriers, influence change and ensure Disabled people across Surrey have a strong voice in the services and decisions that affect their lives.

We're particularly keen to hear from people with experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Communications, marketing or public relations
• Law or legal governance
• Fundraising or income generation
• Organisational strategy or business development

You don't need previous trustee experience. If you have the skills, enthusiasm and commitment to support our mission, we'd love to hear from you. Full induction and ongoing support will be provided.

As a trustee, you'll work alongside fellow Board members to:

• Help shape the organisation's strategy and future direction.
• Ensure good governance and sound decision-making.
• Support the Chief Executive while providing appropriate challenge.
• Help us remain financially sustainable and deliver the greatest possible impact for Disabled people across Surrey.

As Treasurer, you'll be the guardian of our wonderful theatre's finances. It'll be your job to keep the committee updated on the theatre's financial affairs. You'll have a full understanding of the Bookkeeper's role, and oversee their work - or, if you wish, you may volunteer for that role too (details available on request). As Treasurer, you'll prepare an annual budget for the theatre, then manage and track progress, producing quarterly reports on actual income and expenditure vs budget. You'll then produce annual accounts for presentation to the independent examiner, and the wider membership at the AGM. The role requires around 25 hours per month of your time, plus an additional commitment at year end. You'll join the board of trustees, which entails a DBS check, and you'll attend monthly committee meetings, in which you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the general running of the theatre.

Training

Over the course of several months, you'll receive a comprehensive handover from the existing Treasurer. At first, you'll shadow them to gain a full understanding of what's required, then they'll shadow you, offering as much support as you need until you're ready to take the reins.

Skills

You'll have a love of numbers (and spreadsheets!), a forensic attention to detail, and great organisational skills. You'll be good at presenting data to people who aren't as mathsy as you, and keen to join a team of friendly, passionate volunteers. This role will be a great fit for a trainee accountant looking for experience, a retiree with bookkeeping or accounting skills, or a self-proclaimed maths geek with time to spare, and a desire to be part of a wonderful community of people.

Choice International is a UK based not-for-profit international development organisation that seeks to address inequality issues both overseas and within the UK. The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) is seeking an experienced commercial leader to join its Board as a Lay Trustee and Commercial Lead, helping the organisation develop sustainable and ethical approaches to income generation, commercial partnerships and the effective use of its assets.

Who we are

The RCSLT is the professional body for speech and language therapists across the UK. The RCSLT has over 24,000 members and employs around 65 staff, predominantly based in its London office, with additional offices in Belfast, Edinburgh and Cardiff. Our mission is to improve the lives of people with communication and swallowing needs by facilitating and promoting research, producing guidance, holding events and influencing government. We aim to promote better education and training for speech and language therapists and provide information to our members and the public about speech and language therapy.

The role

We are seeking a senior commercial leader to bring expertise, insight and constructive challenge to the RCSLT’s Board. The Commercial Lead will help the organisation think strategically and confidently about income generation and diversification, including opportunities for sponsorship, corporate partnerships, new services, joint initiatives and other forms of collaboration.

Working with the Board and Executive Team, you will provide advice on developing sustainable income streams, strengthening the RCSLT’s market position and building mutually beneficial relationships with external partners. You will bring insight into what motivates prospective corporate partners, including brand alignment, social value and reputational benefit, and help ensure that commercial opportunities remain consistent with the RCSLT’s charitable purpose, values and public benefit obligations.

You will also contribute strategic advice on pricing, value propositions and the effective use of organisational assets, including potential opportunities relating to the RCSLT’s property. Where appropriate, you may draw upon your professional networks to help identify and develop new partnerships and collaborations across the private, public and charitable sectors.

Alongside this specialist contribution, you will participate in the wider work of the Board, helping to provide strategic direction, oversee financial sustainability, monitor organisational performance and ensure effective governance and risk management. This is a strategic and advisory, non-voting role rather than an operational position. The expected time commitment is approximately one day per month, including attendance at four Board meetings each year and participation in relevant committee work.

We are looking for a strategic and commercially minded individual with significant senior-level experience in commercial development, business development, income generation or a related field. You will have a strong understanding of financial sustainability and market dynamics, together with a proven ability to identify, assess and develop commercial opportunities.

Experience of generating or diversifying income within the charitable or not-for-profit sector would be particularly welcome, as would experience of developing sponsorship arrangements, corporate partnerships or other collaborations that create both financial and social value. An understanding of property strategy, asset management or estates optimisation would also be beneficial.

The successful candidate will be able to operate effectively at Board level, offering independent advice and constructive challenge while balancing commercial opportunity with risk, ethics and organisational purpose. You will share the RCSLT’s commitment to improving the lives of people with communication and swallowing needs and understand the importance of ensuring that commercial activity supports the organisation’s mission, values and reputation.

Quilombo UK is looking for an experienced Research Assistant, who would love to join a growing organisation.

The Research Assistant role offers a great opportunity for the right person who is looking to: 

• Gain experience in the Third Sector. 

• Develop their skills and management experience; or just simply 'give something back to their community'.

The role provides you with flexibility and autonomy at work. Where necessary, specific training will also be provided to help you develop and grow your skill set.

Main Responsibilities

• Since its creation, Quilombo UK has collected a great amount of information, evidence and items through projects, fundraisers, events etc.

• We are looking for a team member to find published materials related to Quilombo UK key objectives and interests, especially cultural and racial diversity, and stereotypes in UK communities. The materials include all types of evidence, articles, journals, newspaper columns, local and global news stories. 

• The researcher will help to collect information that can be used as an evidence base to help inform future activities, and also in exhibitions, workshops, and community events. 

• We are looking for a self-starter who can source, collect, and share relevant materials independently. You will also be working closely with our Professional Development Programme participants in relevant areas such as Marketing and PR.

• Provide written reports as and when required. To undertake additional duties as required for the role.

General tasks

• Contribute to staff meetings and other internal meetings with views and suggestions etc.

Essential:

• You will need to have good written skills and be able to explain concepts and projects concisely and accurately. 

• You will be self-starting and willing to research the various projects that we have carried out and catalogue all the evidence collected.

• You will need to have good communication and team-working skills as you will be working closely with Marketing & PR and other members.

• Committed to working with the community with a passion for helping others less fortunate.

• Be computer literate - a good understanding of Microsoft Word is essential and Excel skills are beneficial although support from other members will be provided if necessary.

• To show professionalism at all levels and in all environments 

• Be a strong team player.

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours commitment per week across Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.

Upon successful application, our HR team will contact you to arrange an interview. Following a successful interview, we'll initiate the onboarding process by sending you the necessary documents. Once your onboarding and identification documents are received and verified, you'll be invited to a 6-hour HR and System Induction. Subsequently, you'll meet with your Head of Department or Assistant Manager for your First Day.

We are looking for someone to assist us to share information and updates through our communications and social media content, to help us fundraise and grow.

What will you be doing?

• Leading on one of our social media channels (currently Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn)
• Producing occasional blog posts (minimum one per quarter except LinkedIn lead who will do one per month) on topics related to Plateful Café including research and interviews.
• Recording social media analytics on a weekly basis
• Identifying potential content and opportunities
• Adding ideas to the content planner
• Postings and scheduling content
• Attendance at team catch-ups virtually/phone
• Ad-hoc attendance at events and markets
• Other duties in line with the role description

Requirements:

• Excellent communication skills in fluent English
• Has 3+ years experience of social media, copywriting, journalism, blog content creation, interviewing or similar skills (this does not have to include published work)lls and experience as a Social Media Officer and Blogger? We are looking for a new volunteer to help us at Plateful Cafe.
