Our Side by Side care leavers programme aims to reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness for care leavers and to bridge the gap between leaving care and finding their own way in the world by embarking on their journey ‘side by side’ with them when they need it. 

Every child taken into care and every young person who leaves it should expect the very best care alongside the support and love they need to thrive. 

Sadly, far too many young care leavers are thrust into the adult world before they are ready, facing a life without the support of family and friends that so many of us take for granted.

Young people tell us they are missing the skills and trusted people they need to help them navigate this new chapter in their lives. While some lack a positive adult role model, others are struggling to access education, employment, health services and maintain financial security.

Most just need someone to talk to; someone they can trust.

The impact of care experience does not end at 18, 21 or even 25.  It is a continuous lifetime experience that can have lasting effects. Young people are at risk of falling into debt, becoming mentally or physically ill, vulnerable to exploitation and discriminated against as they leave care.

What they need is a bit of extra support to help.

How can you help?

Come and join us in volunteering to support a care leaver.

You do not need any specific skills or experience, just enthusiasm and a willingness to support a care leaver with their practical and emotional needs.

We just ask that you commit to the programme for a minimum of 12 months.

You will receive all the support and training you need to make the most of your role, including:

• Support from your line manager

• Access to a range of training opportunities

• Reimbursement of all reasonable expenses

• An interview and selection process including an enhanced DBS check, references and a digital risk assessment are required for this role.

At Mary’s Youth Club, we believe in joyful, creative spaces where young people aged 10–19  can grow, thrive, and feel like they truly belong. We're proud of our vibrant, inclusive community – and we’re looking for passionate volunteers to help keep it strong and sustainable. 

We’re inviting community-minded individuals to join our Fundraising Working Group. This is a hands-on, action-focused volunteer team (not a trustee role!) that supports the financial stability of Mary’s by helping to shape and deliver fundraising initiatives throughout the year. 

You’ll be working alongside our Business Operations Manager, with support from the CEO, trustees, and the wider fundraising volunteer group, to bring energy and fresh ideas to everything from annual events and community campaigns to grant applications and local partnerships. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

• Supporting the planning and delivery of fundraising events and campaigns 

• Contributing to grant research and application processes 

• Generating creative fundraising ideas with the team 

• Helping build community partnerships and local business links 

• Attending bi-monthly evening meetings and following up on agreed action

This is a rewarding opportunity to empower local residents to access the services and opportunities they need and make a meaningful impact on their lives.  We are seeking volunteers to support digitally excluded residents with using mobile phones, tablets and computers, to help them build confidence with getting online, accessing apps, essential services, and stay safe in the digital world.

You would be delivering one-to-one support as well as small group workshops at various venues within the London Borough of Enfield including Vincent House (EN3), Enfield Town Library and Palmers Green Library and other community sites. We reimburse travel expenses within the boundaries of Enfield.

You would develop teaching, communication and community engagement skills with training and ongoing support.

You will need:

• Good digital skills (including phones, apps and internet usage)
• Be able to explain technical information in simple terms
• Be patient, approachable and supportive
• Have an awareness of online safety and common scams (training can be provided)
• Be reliable, and able to regularly commit to at least 1 regular day per week
• Be able to develop a basic understanding of the services available to support residents in Enfield
• Be able to work in accordance with our policies and procedures

Join the team at our Bristol-based Hub! You’ll work on our award-winning environmental and social initiative, Bikes Beyond Bars.

About the role

As a volunteer at Life Cycle’s community bike shop, you’ll be part of a friendly, hands-on team that refurbishes donated bicycles and supports sustainable cycling in the local community.

You’ll work alongside professional mechanics and fellow volunteers to:

• Refurbish bikes ready for sale and reuse
• Strip bikes for parts or scrap
• Support Hub staff with bike sales to the public
• Help with online sales (eBay) and general Hub activities
• (Optional) Work alongside people on release from prison to support them with bike repairs

This role is a great opportunity for people who enjoy practical work, love bikes, and want to make a meaningful contribution to environmental sustainability and community impact.

About Bikes Beyond Bars

Life Cycle is a Bristol-based charity that transforms lives and the environment through cycling.

At Bikes Beyond Bars, we take donations of unwanted bikes to our prison workshops across the UK, where their workshop tutors teach men how to refurbish them. Prisoners earn a bike mechanics qualification, gain employable skills, and find a new sense of purpose and hope.

Bikes leave the prison workshop and are taken to our Bristol Hub. There, Life Cycle’s mechanics and team of volunteers check, tweak, and prepare them for sale.

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role. We’ll help you choose what you’d like to get involved with, making sure it benefits both you and the team, for example: 

• supporting the team to maintain high standards of cat welfare
• transporting cats to vet appointments or to new homes
• entering records for cats and cat-related activity to track the impact of the team
• supporting with cat admissions and matching cats with prospective owners
• ordering, collecting and delivering cat-related supplies, for example, food, litter, medical supplies
• communicating with the public, offering support with cat ownership or lost and found cats
• supporting the volunteer neutering team

Time expectation

Our Cat Welfare Support volunteers typically volunteer for two to four hours per week. This role is flexible and can fit around your other commitments.

We are looking for a friendly volunteer who can lead a session of dance, aerobics or exercise, and enjoy moving to music together!  

  
Activities will include:    

• Sharing your time with people we support and leading a group session of movement to music.  This can be dancing, aerobics or other ideas you would like to bring along!  

• Demonstrating dance moves and encouraging people to join in  

• Chatting away and building friendships    

  We are looking for volunteers who are:     

• Confident to lead a group and dance freely (any level of skill is welcome)    

• Enthusiastic with a passion for dance and movement   

• Happy to take requests and share ideas    

• Comfortable chatting with people with learning disabilities and autism     

• Reliable and willing to volunteer regularly (days/times to be agreed)   

A DBS check and two character references will be required for this role.

We are recruiting for a volunteer who would like to play a role in helping others to express themselves through writing. Would you like to support others to use their imagination to portray a message?

Creative writing is a great way to express yourself using your own creativity and imagination through story telling or poetry. It is an opportunity to reflect on your own experiences and put it down on paper. Creative writing has been shown to improve emotional and mental well-being. Through creative writing, we can gain insight into our emotions, develop self-expression and communication skills, cultivate empathy and understanding of others, boost our imagination and creativity.

What you will be doing

• To prepare creative writing sessions, involving individuals in the planning process where possible
• Inspire and motivate individuals to develop and expand their capacity to think creatively, improve their ability to put their thoughts and feelings into writing and allowing others to find their voice
• Encourage individuals to continue independent activities
• Keep a record of attendees, provide feedback and report any concerns to the staff team

The skills you need

• Experience of creative writing either in a professional, educational or personal level
• Able to collaborate with individuals to plan creative writing sessions

About SUNSHINE

SUNSHINE is a small but ambitious grassroots charity on a mission to reduce loneliness and help people feel truly seen, valued and connected. Every week, our volunteers bring warmth, joy and human connection to people who feel isolated, overlooked or alone.

As we prepare to launch publicly, we’re looking for a Fundraising & Grants Lead who can help us secure the seed funding we need to grow our volunteer‑powered movement across London — and eventually beyond.

This is a role where your work directly translates into real‑world impact. Every pound raised becomes a conversation, a connection, a moment of hope for someone who feels alone.

What You’ll Be Doing

1. Kickstarting SUNSHINE’s Fundraising Strategy

• Shape and lead our early‑stage fundraising approach.

• Identify opportunities that align with our mission and values.

• Build the foundations of a sustainable, ethical fundraising model.

2. Writing Warm, Compelling Grant Applications

• Craft applications that tell SUNSHINE’s story with heart and clarity.

• Highlight the real impact our volunteers make.

• Secure seed funding to help us launch and run our programmes.

3. Building Relationships With Funders & Supporters

• Connect with trusts, foundations, community groups and local partners.

• Share SUNSHINE’s vision with warmth, confidence and authenticity.

• Help build a network of supporters who believe in our mission.

4. Creating Campaigns That Inspire People to Give

• Develop small, joyful fundraising campaigns that feel true to SUNSHINE.

• Help us build excitement and momentum around our launch.

• Celebrate every donation — because every donation matters.

5. Helping SUNSHINE Grow Across London

• Support the development of new programmes, volunteer roles and community projects.

• Ensure we have the resources to reach more people facing loneliness.

• Lay the groundwork for long‑term sustainability and expansion.

Practical Details

• Location: London Remote/Hybrid/Flexible — remote with occasional London meetups.

• Time: Approx. 3-5 Hours per week (This is a fully flexible volunteer role with no set hours)

Opportunity in Basingstoke: Volunteer Police Cadet Unit Leader

Are you looking for a role where you can make a real and lasting difference to young people in your community? We are currently recruiting Volunteer Police Cadet Unit Leaders for our Basingstoke unit.

This is a unique opportunity to guide and inspire young people while developing your own leadership, communication and organisational skills.

What the Role Involves

You will be responsible for:
• Planning and coordinating weekly cadet sessions
• Delivering an engaging, inclusive curriculum
• Organising and supporting community safety and engagement events
• Acting as the main point of contact for parents and guardians
• Promoting the cadet unit within the local area
• Managing records, budgets, and risk assessments
• Ensuring the welfare, safety, and development of all cadets and volunteers

This is a varied and rewarding role where you can genuinely shape the experiences of young people and fellow volunteers.

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, prior cadet or youth‑work experience is not required. What matters most is your ability to:
• Communicate effectively
• Motivate and support young people
• Demonstrate patience, empathy, and commitment
• Uphold the constabulary’s values of respect, empathy, courage, and public service

Training and Support

All volunteers receive:
• Safeguarding training
• A full induction
• Ongoing CPD and skills development (e.g., first aid, conflict management)
• Support from the wider Cadet Team and fellow leaders

Help us support young people as they grow, learn, and contribute to their communities.

Are you passionate about empowering communities with life-saving first aid skills? Join St John Ambulance in our mission to ensure every community and young person is first aid confident. 

Through your planning and relationship building skills, help us provide a positive volunteer experience for St John Volunteers across Cumbria & Lancashire. 

About the Role Are you passionate about providing volunteers with equal opportunities for training and development? Do you have experience in managing high-level processes to ensure consistency and quality? 

Are you motivated to help volunteers grow, thrive, and deliver meaningful impact within their communities? If so, the County Education and Volunteer Experience Lead role could be the perfect opportunity for you to make a difference! 

Key Impact and Responsibilities The County Education and Volunteer Experience Lead is responsible for creating a positive volunteer experience in Cumbria & Lancashire, from supporting our volunteers in recruiting new members, to ensuring new volunteers are receiving an effective welcome and induction process, to delivering a coordinated training programme for our volunteers across the county.

Development and support available We are committed to providing ongoing support and development for the right candidate in this volunteer role, offering opportunities to grow and succeed as a leader. 

This role is open to role-sharing. If you are passionate about either the Volunteer Experience or Training side but not both, please still apply and indicate your preference in your application. 

You will be part of a county team, likely also including officer roles to support you, such as for Volunteer Recruitment and Onboarding. This role can be done remotely if you do not live nearby. We are also happy to discuss a role share if needed.
