Background for Citizens Advice Salford’s Chair of Trustees:
Citizens Advice Salford is looking for a new chair for our board of trustees. The service is an independent charity, employing 35 people and benefiting from the support of about 70 highly trained volunteers. We are a full member of the National Association of Citizens Advice, our membership organisation, which supports our work.
Our chair plays a critical role in leading both the board and the organisation, as well as in representing the Salford service within the broader Citizens Advice movement. They will also provide strategic leadership and support the service’s chief executive.
The service provides advice to about 18,000 people each year, and is regulated by various bodies. Our offer is primarily through face to face contact, telephone advice, web access and we are looking at what new digital approaches such as AI can do for us.
We hold the specialist advice giving quality mark. Citizens Advice Salford has a strong reputation as a campaigner for change, for fighting against poverty, lobbying and campaigning on behalf of our clients, together with working across Greater Manchester with our colleague local citizens advice services.
Financially we have a range of contracts with public bodies such as the Council, together with a range of other grants and funding for specific projects.
The current chair is reaching the end of her six year term, but will still be a member of the board. It is a strong board consisting of ten people, with a diverse range of skills and experience.

How much time do you need to give?
Trustee boards usually meet in the evenings and you’ll likely need to give two or three hours, six times a year and you may need to attend other meetings if you’re involved in specifi c projects, or meet with volunteers and staff occasionally within Citizens Advice Salford. We can be fl exible about the time spent, so come and talk to us.

Help our charity to create new Allotment sites!
Green Allotments is a small, national, charity on a mission to create new allotment sites in England.
We are currently looking for lovely volunteers for various roles which are all home-based:
Volunteer Desk-based Researchers (Our most popular volunteering role!)
Archaeologist (desk-based, minimum of 3 years work experience)
Occasional professional/specialist micro-volunteers
Landscape Architect (minimum of 3 years work experience)
Social Media Supporters
Welsh Language Translators / Gwirfoddoli Cyfieithwyr Cymraeg
There are no set hours when volunteering for us and you can turn down anything that you are offered. Obviously, we will treat you with dignity and respect.
We do not anticipate that you will incur expenses in this role. We expect our volunteers to already have an internet connection and be willing to use that as part of their volunteer role with Green Allotments CIO.
(At present we are unable to accept applications from under 18s, although we hope to be able to do so in the future as our charity grows)

Job Description
We are looking for a Volunteer Creative Storyteller to help create meaningful written content that supports our campaigns, fundraising and community engagement.
You will help turn complex and sensitive topics into clear, respectful stories that raise awareness and encourage people to support our mission. This role works closely with the Digital Marketing Director and Digital Marketing teams to create content for social media, websites and digital campaigns.
The role focuses on ethical storytelling, clear communication and helping build the organisation’s public voice.
Key Responsibilities
- Create written content for social media, campaigns, websites and emails
- Help shape stories that support awareness, advocacy and fundraising
- Work with designers and campaign teams to develop engaging content
- Adapt messaging for different audiences and platforms
- Ensure all content is respectful, trauma-informed and aligned with our values
- Review and improve content based on feedback and engagement
What We’re Looking For
- Strong writing and storytelling skills for digital audiences
- Ability to communicate sensitive topics clearly and responsibly
- Interest in social impact, advocacy or community-focused work
- Ability to collaborate with a remote volunteer team
- Comfort adapting content for different platforms (social media, web, email)
- Experience in content writing, communications, campaigns or similar work is helpful but not required

Travel Radar is growing; We’re on the lookout for a Chief Content Officer to lead all areas of content creation and management including Editorial, Visual Media and Social Media. We envision this to be a hybrid role with some working from home and once or twice a month at Travel Radar HQ in Burgess Hill, though we will consider fully remote volunteering. In this role, you can expect excellent training, support and opportunities to get stuck in, and a chance to let your talent takeoff.
Responsibilities and A Little More About the Role:
Some of the things you’ll be doing week-to-week includes:
• Ensuring all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for search and user experience for all channels of content including online, social media, email, B2B products, mobile, video, photographic, print and in-person
• Mapping out a content strategy that supports and extends marketing initiatives, both short- and long-term, determining which methods work for the brand and why
• The development of a functional content calendar throughout the publication’s verticals, and defining the owners in each vertical through the Web Editors Team
• Supervising writers, editors, social media staff and others, being an arbiter of best practices in grammar, messaging, writing, and style
• Conducting ongoing reader engagement tests to gauge content effectiveness
• Gathering data and handle analytics (or supervise those who do) and make recommendations based on those results. Working with owners of particular content channels (Departmental Managers) to revise and measure particular content and marketing goals
• Establishing workflow for requesting, creating, editing, publishing, and retiring content. Work with technical team to implement appropriate CMS via the Writer’s Portal (WordPress system)
• Conducting periodic competitive audits of competitor publications and brands
• Overseeing the Social Media Manager and Social Media content curation/calendar.

As a fundraising volunteer, we will support you every step of the way to ensure your time at Cats Protection is a positive and rewarding one. Whatever time you can give really does make a big difference We have lots of exciting activities to choose from for example attending a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, handling administrative tasks, or contributing to the development of new fundraising ideas. Whatever your skill set, this role could be perfect for you!
What can I expect to be doing?
As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:
