TQUK, the Group’s vocational awarding organisation, is ranked sixth by the number of certificates issued for regulated vocational qualifications, while Realise Training is one of the largest providers of apprenticeships and adult education programmes in England.
Over the next four years, AQA aims to double revenue from vocational and technical qualifications and training and establish itself among the top three organisations in this market. At a significant point in AQA’s growth in vocational and technical qualifications, you’ll help shape strategic decisions that support learners, teachers, trainers and education providers. You’ll bring your sector expertise to a Board environment with a clear public benefit purpose, working alongside Trustees and executive leaders with a broad range of skills, experiences and perspectives. You’ll also have the opportunity to broaden your governance experience while contributing to the future direction of vocational education and training, with induction support available where appropriate.

Our Chair plays a vital role in making sure that Possible achieves its core purpose. They provide leadership and direction to the board of trustees, enabling effective governance of the charity, and they closely manage the Director team to support—and challenge—them to achieve their vision for the organisation.
Possible is about to embark on its next phase as an organisation with the implementation of its new four year organisational strategy. This is a really exciting, important time to join the team in such a pivotal role, and have a real impact on the successful delivery of this work.
As our new Chair, you’ll lead the team of trustees, ensuring they provide on-going strategic direction, critical challenge and helping hands to ensure we continue to land our work with the size of impact the climate crisis demands. You’ll also work closely with Possible’s Co-Directors, offering more detailed support and oversight. We currently have a team of two Co-Directors, rather than one ED, but appoint one as a Lead Director on a rotating basis to lead liaison with the board.
We are looking for someone with prior experience of serving on a charity board and demonstrable leadership experience. However, you do not need experience of being a Chair if it is clear that you are ready to step up, and you do not need experience working in the climate sector, either, although we are looking for someone with knowledge of it.

Previous charity trustee experience is welcome but not essential, and we encourage applications from people with transferable financial expertise gained in the private, public or voluntary sectors.
Trustee responsibilities
As a Trustee, you will share collective responsibility for the governance, financial sustainability and strategic direction of the HBA.

This may include supporting projects, overseeing volunteer teams, working with external stakeholders and providing professional expertise in your area of knowledge.
We're looking for someone who is comfortable balancing strategic oversight with practical involvement in the organisation and who wants to play an active role in helping the charity grow and succeed.
Meetings and commitment
The time commitment is approximately 4 hours per week on average, with some busier periods throughout the year.
