Role: Marketing & Communications Lead (Volunteer Position)
Location: Hybrid (London)
Time Commitment: Approximately 4–8 hours per week
Reporting To: Founder and Executive Director

Unlock YOUR Potential is a new London-based charity dedicated to empowering adults from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds through career coaching, employability skills, personal development, wellbeing support, life coaching, mentoring, and access to opportunities that help individuals achieve their full potential.

We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances. Through our programmes, partnerships, and volunteers, we aim to build confidence, develop skills, improve wellbeing, and open doors to new opportunities across London.

As we grow, we are looking for a creative and passionate Marketing & Communications Lead to help raise awareness of our mission, engage supporters, attract volunteers, and showcase the impact of our work.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of the charity’s marketing and communications function from the ground up.

As Marketing & Communications Lead, you will help shape how Unlock YOUR Potential presents itself to the world. You will play a key role in building our brand, growing our audience, sharing inspiring stories, and helping us connect with beneficiaries, volunteers, partners, funders, and supporters.

You will work closely with the Founder, Trustees, volunteers, and external stakeholders to develop engaging communications that support the charity’s growth and impact.

Key Responsibilities

1. Marketing Strategy

  • Develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy aligned with the charity’s mission and goals.
  • Help build awareness of Unlock YOUR Potential across London and beyond.
  • Identify opportunities to grow engagement, reach, and visibility.
  • Support campaign planning and promotional activities.

2. Content Creation

  • Create engaging content for social media, newsletters, blogs, and the charity website.
  • Develop compelling stories that highlight the experiences and achievements of beneficiaries, volunteers, and partners.
  • Assist in producing promotional materials and marketing resources.
  • Ensure messaging is consistent with the charity’s values and brand.

3. Social Media Management

  • Manage and grow the charity’s social media presence.
  • Develop content calendars and campaign plans.
  • Monitor engagement and respond to enquiries where appropriate.
  • Help build an online community of supporters and advocates.

4. Public Relations and Communications

  • Support the development of press releases and media communications.
  • Identify opportunities for local and regional media coverage.
  • Promote events, campaigns, fundraising activities, and success stories.
  • Build relationships with community organisations and media contacts.

5. Brand Development

  • Help establish and maintain the charity’s brand identity.
  • Ensure consistent use of branding across all communications.
  • Work with volunteers and designers to develop marketing materials.
  • Support the creation of brand guidelines and communication resources.

6. Impact and Engagement

  • Help communicate the impact of the charity’s work to stakeholders.
  • Support volunteer recruitment and fundraising campaigns through effective communications.
  • Promote partnership opportunities and community engagement initiatives.

Skills and Experience

We welcome applications from individuals with a range of professional, academic, and lived experiences.

You may have experience in:

We are particularly looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Is creative and able to develop engaging content.

  • Can think strategically and generate new ideas.
  • Is organised and self-motivated.
  • Is passionate about creating positive social impact.

Experience within the charity sector is welcome but not essential.
