Our Volunteer Opportunity
This role is about much more than volunteer coordination. It is about creating a strong culture of belonging, team spirit and shared purpose. You will help us recruit, onboard, support and retain volunteers, while ensuring they feel appreciated, confident and empowered to contribute meaningfully to our work.
You will play a central role in developing a volunteering programme that goes above and beyond good practice — one that feels positive, uplifting and genuinely rewarding for everyone involved. From first welcome to ongoing support, you will help create a volunteer experience that feels like joining a caring, motivated family with a shared mission to change lives.
What you’ll do
You may support SUNSHINE with:
Designing and developing our volunteering programme from scratch.
Recruiting volunteers who share SUNSHINE’s values and mission.
Creating welcoming onboarding processes that help volunteers settle in with confidence.
Building systems to support volunteer retention, engagement and progression.
Developing ways to reward, recognise and thank volunteers for their time and contribution.
Ensuring volunteers are trained, supported and equipped with the tools they need to succeed.
Helping to create a positive team culture rooted in trust, encouragement and continuous improvement.
Supporting the development of a highly recognised volunteering programme that reflects SUNSHINE’s ambition and spirit.
Working closely with the Founder and wider team to strengthen volunteer involvement across the charity.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a visionary and highly organised Head of Volunteering to establish and lead our global volunteering function. This is a senior volunteer role ideal for someone who enjoys building systems from scratch, shaping culture, and empowering people.
You will design and launch our volunteering programme, create the systems and processes that underpin it, and lead the recruitment, onboarding and retention of volunteers across the foundation. As we grow, you will build and oversee a dedicated volunteer department.

Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement the foundation’s global volunteering strategy.
Create volunteer systems, processes, policies, and best‑practice frameworks.

Establish a positive, inclusive, and inspiring volunteer culture aligned with our mission and values.
Set up and manage a volunteer management system (VMS) and reporting processes.

Work closely with senior leadership to ensure volunteering supports organisational goals.
Monitor, evaluate, and continuously improve the volunteering programme.

About the Role

Home-Start is a local charity supporting parents who are going through challenging times. Family Support Volunteers offer regular support, befriending and help to families under stress either in their own homes or at family groups, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.
Families may need a little extra support for a multitude of reasons - a parent or child may have an illness, post natal depression, family bereavement, spouse in the military, multiple births or disabilities.
Could you offer two hours per week or fortnightly to support families in your local area in the home or help at our family support group?
We offer either full face to face prep training or flexible training opportunities fully supported by a member of staff.

We are honoured to be supporting the wonderful Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People to recruit a new Chair of the Board.
Rainbows Hospice for Children & Young People is based in Loughborough, Leicestershire, and is the only Hospice across the East Midlands that delivers a comprehensive range of support services, nursing and care for babies, children and young people with life threatening and life limiting conditions and their families.
We are seeking an outstanding Chair of Trustees to lead our Board and support the Chief Executive in ensuring the hospice’s strategic direction, governance, and long-term sustainability.
Purpose of the Role
The Chair provides leadership to the Board, ensuring effective governance, strategic oversight, and strong support and challenge to the executive team. The Chair also works with the executive team to develop external relationships.
Leadership & Governance
• Provide clear leadership to the Board, ensuring it operates effectively and in line with charity governance standards and the Charity Commission’s expectations.
• Ensure the Board fulfils its duties to safeguard the organisation’s mission, assets, reputation, and beneficiaries.
• Lead on Board development, ensuring a high-performing, diverse, and properly skilled Board of Trustees.
• Work closely with the Vice Chair and Committee Chairs to ensure committee structures function efficiently.
Strategic Oversight
• Work with the Board and Chief Executive to set the organisation’s long-term vision, strategic objectives, and measurable success indicators.
• Ensure appropriate strategic oversight of clinical services, safeguarding, quality frameworks, finance, and fundraising.
• Support robust risk management processes and long-term financial planning.
Relationship with the Chief Executive
• Develop a strong, constructive, and supportive relationship with the Chief Executive.
• Provide regular guidance, support, and challenge as needed.
• Undertake the Chief Executive’s annual appraisal and support their personal development.
External Representation
• Represent the hospice at key events, meetings, and media opportunities where appropriate.
• To represent the charity at meeting with key supporters or potential supporters, supporting our fundraising activities.
Board Meetings & Governance Processes
• Chair Board meetings effectively, ensuring inclusive debate, timely decisions, and high-quality governance practice.
• Ensure trustees receive accurate, timely, and relevant information to support informed decision making.
• Oversee governance policies, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
