Mid-Level Giving Officer

Position Objective:

The Mid-Level Giving Officer will support PETA’s impact and growth through their work with an exciting portfolio of mid-level donors typically giving £250 - £999 size gifts. They will be responsible for managing all aspects of cultivating, stewarding and soliciting from this pool of valued supporters, including Vanguard Society Members, to provide a first-rate donor experience while deepening members’ engagement and financial support. The Mid-Level Giving Officer will also work collaboratively with other departments to enhance the mid-level donor experience, identify and refer major donor prospects to the appropriate team members, and ensure that efficient processes are in place.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage and maintain a portfolio of Vanguard Society donors and prospects
• Creating engaging donor journeys and presenting opportunities for deeper engagement
• Develop and implement donor-specific plans of strategic communication touches by phone, email and mail. This will include updates on PETA’s progress and victories, messages of gratitude, invitations to events, and asks to donors to increase their financial support. 
• Manage a portfolio of Vanguard Society and mid-level donors, each giving £250 + or with the capacity to make annual gifts at a higher level (at one time as well as cumulatively), including cultivating and stewarding each donor to increase their engagement and giving.
• Solicit and close gifts from assigned mid-level donors.
• Regularly qualify new prospects and donors in their capacity, inclination, affinity, and readiness to give.
• Track and achieve key activity and revenue metrics, while meeting weekly with the manager to report on progress, challenges, and opportunities.
• Ensure that mid-level donors’ database records are updated in a timely fashion. Document pertinent information (meetings, correspondence, notes, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing and developing PETA's donor database.
• Coordinate and collaborate with other teams and colleagues, including legacy, direct response, data, prospect research and communications, to enhance the donor experience and ensure that efficient processes are in place.
• Stay up-to-date on mid-level fundraising techniques and methods used in the nonprofit sector and attend professional-training opportunities as well as weekly coaching and progress reporting meetings
• Conduct oneself in a professional, friendly and truthful manner to donors.
• Perform any other duties requested by the supervisor.
• Acknowledge, thank and recognise donors appropriate to their level of support, and ensure restricted gifts are appropriately allocated
• Work with key PETA staff to find ways to engage donors in our mission, including by meeting supporters face to face or over the phone
• Monitor donors’ motivations and help to contribute to tailor cultivation events
• Maintain a clear understanding of – and the ability to articulate – PETA's objectives as well as details of specific PETA programmes
• Keep all donors in the portfolio up to date on the campaigns and initiatives of PETA and our affiliates
• Document pertinent information for the purpose of enhancing and developing donor profiles, including demographic, donation, correspondence, membership, and personal information for Vanguard Society members
• Maintain and expand knowledge of relevant departmental software (e.g. Raiser’s Edge, NXT, etc) in order to improve communication with donors
• Assist with the preparation and proofreading of mailings and other communications, as needed
• Monitor the acknowledgment process at Woods, working closely with staff to ensure that acknowledgements and welcome packs are sent out efficiently and that queries are passed to us within the agreed timeframe
• Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
• Perform and manage any other projects or duties requested by the supervisor

ABOUT THE EUROPEAN LEGAL SUPPORT CENTRE 

ELSC is an initiative of the Palestinian NGO Network, comprising 200 Palestinian civil society organisations, developed in response to the widespread repression in Europe of advocacy for Palestinian rights. Founded in January 2019, we provide free legal advice and assistance to individuals who face unjust smears, disciplinary investigations, criminal sanctions and other repressive measures aimed at shrinking the space for Palestinian rights advocacy in mainland Europe and Britain. ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Associate Solicitor will lead our legal team in Britain and oversee our cases in England and Wales. 

The role requires a qualified solicitor with experience of running litigious cases. Our main practice areas in Britain are: (i) public law and human rights; (ii) employment and discrimination and (iii) defamation law. The post-holder will have particular expertise in one of these areas. Our cases also involve data rights, freedom of information, criminal law, actions against the police, charity law, education law, international humanitarian law, and immigration issues. 

The post holder will manage a growing team that consists of a Legal Officer and a Junior Legal Officer. In addition, our country teams have advocacy and communication officers and researchers who monitor anti-Palestinian racism.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee all litigious and advisory casework in Britain alongside our junior legal staff and legal network. Provide expert legal advice and representation, to individual clients and movement partners.

• Manage our legal officers, providing training and feedback to them as appropriate. Collaborate closely with our legal network of solicitors and counsel with the goal of strengthening the wider movement. 

• ​​Develop and advance new legal strategies for challenging state and non-state repression of advocacy for Palestine in consultation with our legal network, national partners and experts. 

• Support the development of effective advocacy campaigns to increase the impact of litigation outside the courtroom.

• Support ELSC’s outreach and public engagement initiatives.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Required experience, knowledge and skills

• 3 years + post-qualified experience (PQE) and admitted to practise as a solicitor in England and Wales.

• Experience leading on a variety of contentious and non-contentious matters, particularly in public, employment and/or defamation law. 

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise legal advice on complex issues in a comprehensible and appropriate format. 

• An ability to engage with the law critically and develop strategies that serve broader political objectives. Track record of collaborating well with other lawyers, academics and civil society organisations.

• Excellent client care skills, particularly in relation to vulnerable or marginalised clients.

• Experience in a role which requires coordination of multiple projects and/or workstreams concurrently, and the ability to manage relationship with partner organisations, coalitions and counsel.

• High level of English-language proficiency.

• Commitment to the Palestinian liberation and solidarity movement.

Desirable experience, skills and knowledge

• Dual-qualified in Scotland and/or Northern Ireland.

• Ideal candidate will already have LAA Supervisor status or meet the requirements to do so

• Experience working with campaigning and advocacy organisations.

• Experience with management and organisational development. 

• Understanding of and experience working with a variety of local, national, and international jurisdictions, including those governed by common law or civil law.

We’re looking for two self-starting team members who will help coordinate our JUMP befriending project for unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugees.

You’ll be responsible for half of the befriending pairs (currently 28, increasing to 50 in the coming months) and undertake tasks such as working with our partner organisations, managing referrals for young people, recruiting volunteer befrienders, and setting-up and sustaining pairs. This includes leading an initial training day.

You’ll also provide JUMP young people with casework support, help organise our group events and facilitate support from our Hardship Fund.

Main functions

Supporting young people and the JUMP Community

1. Managing a caseload of young people; including offering casework support; arranging and attending appointments with the young person where necessary and signposting to available support.
2. Helping plan and organise quarterly group events.
3. Conducting initial assessments with young people to understand their needs, and once paired with a volunteer, hosting befriending initial meetings.

 Supervising and supporting volunteers

1. Recruiting, interviewing and onboarding new befrienders, including organising and delivering training.
2. Supporting befriending volunteers through regular supervisions, meetings, emails and phone calls, and responding promptly to any safeguarding concerns raised.
3. Ensuring that volunteers uphold JUMP’s policies and boundaries for befriending.

Publicising JUMP, and engaging with key stakeholders

1. Publicising the project to existing and potential referral agencies, and establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with them.
2. Representing HIAS+JCORE and JUMP in the refugee sector as required, for example at the Refugee and Migrant Children’s Consortium (RMCC) meetings.

Project monitoring, evaluation and record keeping

1. Working with experts and the JUMP Project Manager on supporting the project and its evaluation, and keeping accurate records in JUMP’s database.

Other Duties

1. Ensuring that JUMP informs our campaigns, communications and education work. As the project develops, there will be opportunities for the post-holder to contribute to and support these areas of our work.

• Understanding of Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding, and ability to communicate this to volunteers.
• Understanding of youth work principles and methods, including the benefits and challenges of befriending and other participatory methods.
• Ability to network in the refugee sector and develop strong working relationships.
• Ability to work independently and to self-motivate.
• Commitment to HIAS+JCORE values, social justice and antiracism.
• The ability to communicate in languages other than English, in particular Arabic, Spanish and French (desirable)

• A track record of working directly with asylum seeking and refugee children and young people.

They will also act as retail sales supervisor for 4 other NOAH stores and train staff and volunteers in consistent best practice.

Key responsibilities

* Customer Experience and Service: Welcome customers warmly, maintain an inviting atmosphere, and train and oversee retail staff to deliver exceptional customer service.
* Visual Merchandising and Operations: Maintain correct pricing, sizing, and stock displays. Ensure high standards of visual presentation and cleanliness in all areas.

The Senior Shop Manager will have a minimum of three years' experience managing a charity or clothing retail store. The successful post holder will have experience in cybertil systems, an understanding of charity retail and solid customer service experience. You will have experience successfully managing staff and volunteers and demonstrate understanding and respect for NOAH Enterprise's values of Care, Compassion, and Commitment. The ideal candidate would have some knowledge and understanding of Fundraising and Marketing.

The role will be based in Hertfordshire where the new flagship store will be opening (exact location TBC). The successful post holder will need to take a flexible approach to working hours (within the scope of the agreed working week) and will need to work evenings and weekends on occasion. There is a TOIL policy in place for any additional hours worked. Occasional travel will be required for meetings, staff days and training. Job Purpose:

About The Team

Shelter’s Legal Team provide legal expertise and representation across our Services. You will be part of our National Legal Team and will work closely with our Telephone and Online Advice Service (TOAS) to identify trends in issues experienced by people using the service.  

About the role

Your role will be to work within the National Legal Team to support the TOAS team to recognise vulnerable clients who need urgent legal help, at the sharpest end of the housing crisis, struggling to advocate for themselves in appalling housing conditions or stuck in temporary accommodation.

Your role will be to provide legal early intervention to clients and families who have safeguarding concerns.

You will act on a consultancy basis for TOAS and provide advice and legal representation on behalf of the client and/or their family, authorising and arranging temporary accommodation and any associated hardship claims. Should a safeguarding referral be made, you will follow up on those referrals to ensure that the appropriate outcome is achieved.

You will also be supported to work with relevant stakeholders to address systemic matters that contribute to homelessness and advocate for systematic change to break the cycle for other vulnerable clients and their families.

About You

Qualified as a Solicitor, you will have a strong knowledge of housing law and be used to managing your caseload including time recording. You will need to meet the Housing/Debt Supervisor standard and have demonstrable experience in litigation and court advocacy, carry out file reviews and be proactive about your professional development and continuous improvement.

About the role:

This role is for an events person who can support our training and development courses. These courses are delivered either face-to-face or hybrid and are often delivered by a team of the organisation’s members. We use tools such as WebEx, MS Teams and Slido to support the delivery. There is an agreed schedule for the rest of 2024 for our public (open) training plus some bespoke, in-house training to be agreed upon with clients. The role holder will work within our professional development team, headed up by the director of professional development. They will report directly to the director and work alongside other team members to deliver an effective apprenticeship programme.

Our working pattern is hybrid, with attendance in the office expected for three days per week, including every Wednesday. You may also be expected to attend events across the UK and overseas.

Key responsibilities include:

• Negotiate contracts with suppliers to meet the agreed requirements and budget, liaising with the DPD as required.
• Organise and attend volunteer Working Party meetings as required.
• Working with the volunteers, external suppliers and DPD, ensure all requirements are clearly defined, appropriate and in place for the course to be delivered.
• Liaise with suppliers and contributors to deliver and sign off the online activity.
• Work with the DPD and others to identify potential speakers.
• Support the DPD to negotiate and agree contracts with speakers.
• Work with clients and speakers to agree on delivery dates.
• Process bookings via iMIS, including sending confirmations to delegates.
• Respond to queries from potential delegates and their employers.
• Support current delegates with queries on their programme and progress.
• Work with the DPD and Financial Controller to put together the draft budget for specific events, bursary scheme, or online development activities.
• Supply up-to-date information on the bursary holder’s progress and course uptake to inform budgetary, marketing, and other management decisions.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will need experience managing events (face to face and hybrid) including liaising with speakers and managing the technology. You will be able to work with colleagues to identify and contact potential speakers. You will also be able to manage the budget for the course delivery. To be successful at the organisation, you will need to be able to work in a small team, be flexible in accommodating changing priorities and thrive in an ever-changing environment.

You will also bring with you the following skills and experience:

• A qualification or experience in event management including online and bespoke courses.
• Strong planning and prioritisation skills with the ability to multitask.
• Excellent oral and written English.
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills including record-keeping and attention to detail.
• Excellent Customer Service skills.

• Basic financial awareness and understanding for example working to a budget and controlling costs.
• General IT skills including MS Office (e.g. Word mail merges and Excel reporting).
• An aptitude to learn new software/portals and experience with customer databases such as iMIS, webinars and eLearning platforms will be an advantage.
