What is a Community Connection Champion?
The aim of the role is to promote connection by developing and facilitating social groups and activities within the local serving community.
Tasks will include planning group activities that are sociable and of interest to the community. It also involves coordinating and delivering sessions. You will receive training and have support from a dedicated project officer as you establish a variety of groups.

Armed Forces life can bring its challenges when a loved-one is deployed overseas, or a family must move to a new location. Some people can find themselves feeling lonely or socially isolated, they may struggle to meet and connect with new people due to their confidence, work commitments or because they don’t live in Service Family Accommodation.
Community Connection Champions will play a vital role in tackling these challenges by creating welcoming, engaging group opportunities that bring people together.
What will you be doing?
Although every SSAFA Team has different needs, below are the main activities of a Community Connection Champion:
- Creating and Planning: Working with the Project Officer to plan, develop and organise groups and activities that are best suited to their local serving community.
- Communication and Teamwork: Keeping in touch with the local Community Volunteer Coordinator and attending s meetings.
- Networking and Engagement: Reaching out with those who are interested in attending activities, providing support and encouragement for them to attend, including those who face barriers to attending.
- Facilitating group sessions: Delivering group activities in line with agreed plans, signposting attendees to external support as required and in line with SSAFA’s safeguarding policy and procedures.
- Recording and reporting on activities: Sharing activity plans with the SSAFA Project Team, tracking attendance, and encouraging attendees to complete the relevant paperwork to support Project reporting and development.
What about training and support?
- Volunteers will need to complete E-learning courses covering topics including GDPR and safeguarding plus a 1.5hr webinar which focuses on understanding the impact of loneliness and social isolation, what helps to reduce those feelings and the skills needed to develop and facilitate groups.
- Support from a dedicated Project Officer who will work with you to plan and develop the groups and activities.
- Support from your local Community Volunteer Coordinator and SSAFA’s Regional and Central Volunteer Operations colleagues.
- Access to a range of e-learning courses, resources and local opportunities to keep your knowledge and skills up to date.
- Regular meetings and events to learn and share information.
- Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses.
- Volunteers will be covered by SSAFA's Public Liability insurance while carrying out their role.

The role is for a Befriender in our Tenancy Sustainment Teams in the London Boroughs of Kingston, Richmond, Sutton, and Wandsworth and we’re now recruiting for volunteers. We would particularly like to hear from you if you live in or near the above boroughs.
The Tenancy Sustainment teams support people on their first steps from homelessness to independence – providing accommodation and support to assist people off the streets.
We work with people who are have experienced rough sleeping and, once accommodated, SPEAR then works with people on a housing pathway and assists them to link into various support services, tailored to the challenges an individual might face.
SPEAR is looking for self-motivated, outgoing, and empathic people who could volunteer to provide support to vulnerably housed, rough sleepers, or anyone using homelessness services in the London boroughs of Richmond, Wandsworth, Sutton, and Kingston.
The volunteer will enjoy developing positive relationships with new people and will be willing to work outside of their own comfort zone providing befriending support to the clients. The volunteer must have an enhanced DBS background check (SPEAR will apply for this on your behalf.)

Discovery Catering Volunteer Wanted

We are looking for a volunteer to help support us during our monthly pop-up cafes.
The role is a great opportunity for someone with a love of cooking to share their skills and/or learn more about vegetarian and vegan cooking.
As a volunteer for bemix you are also part of our wider social movement, working to achieve equality for people with learning difficulties and/or autism.
Role and responsibilities
Main aim: To support the group members prepare and serve vegetarian and vegan meals, including greeting customers and taking payment for meals at our monthly pop-up cafe.
Location: Westgate Hall, Canterbury City Centre.
Salary: This position is unpaid.
Expenses: Reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed. Please let us know details about where you will be travelling from and how much this will cost, when you apply.
Hours: Between 4 to 6 hours per month. 10am – 2pm / 4pm. Working with the Discovery Catering team one day each month, on a Tuesday.

The Donated Stock Team is responsible for driving stock donations across the whole of retail and stimulating partnerships that will lead to stock donations. We also work on for brand awareness through social media to encourage more people to donate stock.

This role provides our team the support to help raise income through our shops with a focus on helping us coordinate our stock and by providing administrative support.

Are you passionate about supporting young people to access education? Learning English is a priority for the young people that we work with, but it can be difficult to find out where and when classes are happening. With limited English, the application process can also be very difficult to navigate. We are looking for a committed volunteer to work alongside the Education Lead to support young people to access English/ ESOL classes in and around Brighton. This will involve working directly with young people to help them to fill in application forms as well as keeping up to date about the classes that are happening and communicating with local colleges and training providers.
Time commitment: Every Thursday 1.30pm - 7.30pm (6 hours per week)

- Experience of working with young people from refugee/ marginalised backgrounds
- Experience of working with people whose first language is not English
- Good at building relationships with young people
- Experience of teaching ESOL and/or working in further education is desirable

Tasks and responsibilities
- Helping grow awareness and support for local & national fundraising
- Understanding different needs and interests of people and inspiring them to give in a way that is right for them.
- Supporting in our bookshop by manning the space, rotating stock, tidying and pricing books while always providing a friendly and welcoming approach.
- Attending regular meetings and suggesting fundraising ideas/feedback so we can fulfil our fundraising plan.
- Using your particular skills in creative ways to raise funds
- Answering questions people may have about the National Trust and being able to explain where donations go and impact they make.
- Ensuring we follow fundraising guidance, regulations and best practice
- Supporting big fundraising campaigns or projects.
- Being part of a team that may need to adapt and change in response to local needs, National Trust priorities or changes to government guidelines

To support around 100 Afghan and Muslim girls, aged 8-16, from refugee communities to develop their participation in football. The project will enable them to develop football skills and knowledge, participate in games, and socialise in a female-only culturally appropriate ambience but within the wider open-access setting of public sports facilities and local parks. The project will give the girls confidence to participate, reassure their parents that their cultural practices are being respected, and increase the visibility of girls’ participation in sport among the wider community.
This project will enable these girls, who are often excluded from mainstream sport, to play football for their physical and psychological health. It challenges public stereotypes and under-representation of Afghan and Muslim girls in community sport. ACAA will create opportunities for them to play football in public spaces in West London. This volunteer will work alongside the Football Project Coordinator and Head Coach to run sessions.
Responsibilities
Assist with Training Sessions: Work alongside coaches to organize and run training sessions for young children, focusing on fundamental skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and basic game tactics.
Provide Support during Matches: Attend matches and provide support to both players and coaches, offering encouragement, guidance, and assistance as needed.
Promote Sportsmanship: Emphasize the importance of teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship among players, helping to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the club.
Ensure Safety: Prioritize the safety and well-being of children at all times, following club protocols and guidelines to minimize risks of injury during training sessions and matches.
Assist with Equipment Setup: Help set up and organize equipment, including cones, balls, and goalposts, before training sessions and matches, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation.
Encourage Participation: Encourage active participation and engagement from all players, fostering a love for the game and helping each child reach their full potential.
Communicate with Parents: Maintain open and transparent communication with parents, providing updates on their child's progress, upcoming events, and any relevant club information.

Quilombo UK is a not-for-profit social enterprise that challenges people to think differently and bridge gaps between communities, with the aim of building a culturally rich society, where differences are accepted and celebrated. As chosen among 160 other organizations to work in collaboration with the Home Office on the “Building a Stronger Britain together” project, you will be joining a team, which not only supports the community but also stands up to extremism in all of its forms.
Responsibilities:
- Research, collect and concise information, related to quilombo’s key objectives, in particular cultural and racial diversity, and stereotyping in uk communities.
- Use diverse sources of information, such as articles, journals, newspaper columns, local and global news stories, etc.
- Collect information that can be used as an evidence base to help inform future activities, exhibitions, workshops, and community events.
- Provide written reports when required.
- Contribute to staff meetings.
Skills and attributes:

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours commitment per week across Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.
Upon successful application, our HR team will contact you to arrange an interview. Following a successful interview, we'll initiate the onboarding process by sending you the necessary documents. Once your onboarding and identification documents are received and verified, you'll be invited to a 6-hour HR and System Induction. Subsequently, you'll meet with your Head of Department or Assistant Manager for your First Day.
