Hillside Clubhouse is recruiting for a mental health employment specialist to join our dynamic Camden team supporting people with mental health conditions to gain and retain employment.  The role is working within the nationally recognised IPS (Individual Placement and Support) model within an NHS secondary care mental health team based in the heart of Camden.

Who we are: 

Hillside Clubhouse is a co-produced mental health employment support charity working across Camden and Islington. We support people with mental health conditions into training, volunteering, and employment opportunities. People can access our services via our Clubhouse, where they can share their skills and expertise with others and support the running of the charity.  Alternatively, they can receive support out in the community from one of our employment specialists based within primary and secondary care.

The Role: 

The role is within our IPS Service and will be based within a Camden NHS secondary care team. As an IPS Employment Specialist, you’ll play an important role in supporting people with lived mental health experience on their recovery journey by supporting them back into paid employment. This is an opportunity to offer ongoing support, to motivate and provide people with hope, while developing the tools and skills required to recover, ultimately transforming their lives.

A variety of skills are needed in this post including but not limited to -  a strong ability to develop empathy and rapport with clients; a determined approach to seeking out job opportunities; a person centric-approach to working with people; strong communications skills to motivate clients; strong administrative capabilities and an attention to detail engage with prospective employers via business development and face-to-face meetings, and to be able to challenge some perceptions around mental health. 

The postholder will be directly employed by Hillside Clubhouse but work under an Honorary Contract from Camden and Islington Foundation Trust.  They will be managed directly by the IPS Operations Manager but work as team member within the clinical team. The role is dynamic and involves being integrated in a clinical team, working within the community, and we operate a flexible working policy where working from home is also permitted up to two days per week.

Overall aim: 

To enable people with mental health issues to gain and sustain competitive employment by working within the evidence based Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model.

Primary Duties: 

• Manage a caseload of up to twenty clients and work within and apply the 8 principles of IPS in all aspects of role. 
• To work with and enable clients to find work using a mix of conventional approaches and employer engagement. 
• To generate ongoing referrals from the clinical team and to manage those effectively. 
• To engage directly and collaboratively with the clinical team while maintaining the existing multi-disciplinary approach to assisting clients seeking work. 
• To report and meet regularly with clinical team service managers and the IPS Operations manager, and to participate in both casework and clinical supervision from IPS Operations and clinical team services managers. 
• To be an active member of both the clinical and Hillside teams 
• To be responsible for own management of administrative duties tied to both Hillside Clubhouse and clinical team and adhering to existing Hillside and NHS protocols. 
• Source job opportunities specific to client needs from a range of sources including those advertised via current and conventional means, as well as through contact with local and Pan London employers. 
• To build up a network of employers to secure available and future vacancies. 
• To maintain existing and seek out new relationships with a range of external agencies of use to the post. 
• To provide ongoing support to both client and employers (where appropriate) when starting work and until such time as the client makes the decision to end the support provided. 
• To work with clients to collaboratively manage job searching activities and engagement with the service. 
• To manage and meet all KPIs, statistics and documentation as required, including but not limited to: referrals, first meetings, job outcomes, job sustainments of 6, 13 and 26 weeks, and work retention. 
• To provide guidance on the impact and/or the potential change to benefits when clients start work. 
• To work and manage time effectively in both community/external settings, and at clinical team.

• To work out of hours as and when required, working in line with Hillside Clubhouse risk management procedures. 
• Undertake training when required and participate in ongoing learning and development. 
• To maintain professional boundaries with all internal and external stake holders including clients, and staff members of both Hillside and the clinical team. 
• To engage and participate in external IPS support services, training, and events. 
• To undertake additional tasks and duties as and when required, and to work outside of normal office hours when necessary.

The Youth Participation Worker will facilitate and develop a Youth steering group, support aftercare for young people leaving treatment, coordinate and facilitate diversionary activities to support young people and their families.

The post holder will develop and support delivery of all volunteer programmes inclusive of Peer Support and Peer Mentoring Programmes, to include the recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers/peer mentors.  They will ensure that general service User participation and empowerment is implemented across the Service.

An energetic and confident self-starter, you have a certificate in youth and community work e.g. NVQ Level 3 or above, DipSW, Mental Health Nursing, Counselling, Addiction Studies) or significant experience of working in a similar role with a commitment to complete NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care. As well as significant knowledge and experience of working with young people, you have knowledge of project planning and experience of working in the substance misuse sector. Reporting to the Stroke Association Service Delivery Coach, the coordinator will work with the local Health and Social Care services to receive referrals and support stroke survivors and their carers. ABOUT THE ROLE

A new opportunity has arisen to join a new contract in Lewisham. You will support over 2 properties which supports residents and participants with acute and/or complex mental health needs who are supported/treated in the community in their recovery as appose to hospital inpatient care. You will focus on rehabilitating and reintegrating our residents and participants and help our residents and participants achieve their personal goals and gain a level of recovery that enables them to return home or move into supported housing.

Shift Pattern: Rota based Monday to Sunday between 08:00 and 19:30 

ABOUT THE SERVICE

The Integrated Community Rehabilitation Services will enable people to receive a community-based offer and avoid admission into a rehabilitation unit. 

The service is across 2 properties in Lewisham (one 8 self contained rooms, and another with 6 self contained rooms) located in close proximity to each another and both will be staffed 24/7 by a minimum of 2 Mental Health Recovery Workers (MHRW) at all times, at each site. This will include Shift Leads to support the Management Team. 

These addresses are a short walk from each other and are served by good public transport links; close to Bellingham, Catford and Catford Bridge train stations, and close to bus stops.

• Previous experience creating co - produced support plans, key working, and care planning, providing appropriate interventions for service users
• IT Proficiency; ability to learn new software and basic Microsoft
• Understanding of the housing and social needs of people with multiple and complex needs
• Understanding and/or practical knowledge of the social and societal marginalisation that can be attached to people with various challenging backgrounds, mental health, addiction, exploitation, homelessness, and previous convictions

• Understanding and/or practical application of key legislation regarding social care, housing, criminal justice, and mental health
• Ability to Recognise signs of deteriorating mental health and initiate appropriate interventions to prevent crisis

The One80 team provides early intervention and highly structured treatment for drug and/or alcohol misuse to young people.  You will be a big part of a small team where everyone takes a flexible and collaborative approach to work and is committed to improving outcomes for young people up to the age of 21 years, to promote recovery from substance misuse and to secure positive health and wellbeing outcomes. 

We are looking for someone who has a relevant professional qualification with a minimum of 1 years’ experience of working with young people with alcohol/drug problems and/or working with young people/children with complex needs.  You will be highly organised with excellent communication skills and able to manage your time effectively, working as part of the team to ensure a high-quality service is maintained, whilst applying your knowledge of the range of drug/alcohol related problems and their impact on young people, their families and the community.  You will have experience of and the ability to liaise and build links with professionals from a variety of disciplines as well as knowledge of legislation, guidelines and procedures relating to children and young people.

You will be passionate about changing lives and what we do, with a positive and engaging approach to our young people, as situations can sometimes be difficult and challenging so you will need to be non-judgemental, with a sensitive attitude and a good understanding of how to meet complex needs related to substance misuse.

The successful candidate will be able to work Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 09:30 to 17:30, Tuesdays 09:30 to 19:00 and Thursdays 09:30 to 16:00.  There is also an element of flexibility around working hours required.  It is essential that you have a driving licence with access to a vehicle to transport young people to appointments.  A willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check is also a requirement of the post.

Working and engaging with armed forces support and personnel services, individuals harmed by gambling, their wider network, stakeholders, and other relevant groups within the veteran and active armed forces communities, the aim is to create trained personnel able to support the work of the AFGHSN.​

A key aspect of the role will be working with individuals experiencing gambling harms, requiring an empathetic and compassionate approach and awareness of the complex issues being addressed. A robust management of safeguarding and safe working practices is essential.​

It is essential that you are based within one hour travelling time of London, as extensive travel to London and the UK is expected.

Role Purpose

An armed forces veteran or someone closely involved with the armed forces (a family member for example), the post holder will also have a unique insight on gambling harms, and their impact on health and wellbeing specifically within the military.

The Armed Forces Peer Aid Coordinator will initially prioritise engaging with veterans and military organisations to deliver the AFGHSN training programme, along with gambling awareness activities. The purpose is to upskill key armed forces personnel and those in connected communities, enabling and enhancing their knowledge, skills and confidence to address gambling harms. ​

The second key responsibility is to recruit, train and support Peer Supporters to deliver safe, effective support for individuals and their networks that have been harmed by gambling. It is expected that Peer Supporters will be individuals with ‘lived experience’ of gambling harm themselves or as an ‘affected other’.​

The post holder will work with the Head of Peer Support Services to support the development and maintenance of the systems and structure of the service, ensuring that governance and polices are implemented, safeguarding and safe working practices are strictly adhered to, and a clear understanding established of how the service integrates with other support and treatment networks.​

The AFGHSN Peer Aid team will ensure that the support and working relationships are safe and secure, and the health and wellbeing of all participants is intact. Peer Support will be in a befriending capacity and should be provided with a considered and transparent approach. Other support activities will be developed, such as group support and weekly meet ups.​

Stakeholder management is essential to the role, as is establishing and maintaining relationships within the AFGHSN, alongside confident communication skills to deliver presentations and other promotions within armed forces community, education and health centres to help grow and evolve the service. 

We are especially keen to receive applications from​ individuals with experience of gambling addiction​ and recovery from within the armed service with a minimum of two years abstinence.​
