The role
This is an exciting new role within RHASS, where you will have have the opportunity to shape the direction of the role. The Business Development Manager will lead the growth of commercial revenue across the Royal Highland Show (RHS), focusing on new new income streams, high-value partnerships, and diversification of commercial activity
This is a strategic and externally focused role responsible for market development, corporate engagement, and long-term commercial planning, ensuring that all opportunities align with RHASS’s mission and brand.
You will manage the full commercial development cycle—market mapping, lead generation, proposition design, negotiation, contracting and account management - while maintaining close working relationships with various departments to ensure alignment and support across commercial activity.
Strategic Business Development
- Develop and deliver a commercial growth strategy aligned with RHASS and RHS priorities.
- Work with the Head of Show to develop and implement a long-term commercial strategy aligned with RHS’s goals and priorities.
- Identify and develop new commercial opportunities that sit outside existing commercial models, adding incremental value to the Show.
- Proactively identify and create compelling business cases and commercial proposals for new ventures.
- Act as the point of contact for key commercial partners, ensuring strong relationships and long-term retention..
Business Development & External Engagement
- Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective corporate partners, clients, and commercial customers.
- Engage collaboratively with Sponsorship and Trade Stands teams where appropriate to support joined-up commercial conversations and maximise overall show value.
- Attend industry events, exhibitions, and networking functions to promote RHS commercial opportunities and build relationships.
- Liaise with the relevant Chief Stewards, the Operations team, and external contractors to ensure smooth and professional delivery of the show.
- Work cross-functionally to ensure commercial opportunities are aligned with wider RHS initiatives, events, and brand strategy.
Event Delivery & Partner Experience
- Plan and oversee commercial client activations and hospitality experiences at the Royal Highland Show.
- Provide on-site leadership to ensure commercial partners receive first-class service and fulfilment.
- Collaborate with internal teams to deliver excellent logistics, communications, and end-to-end partner satisfaction.
Merchandise & Corporate Liaison
- Support the development and expansion of RHS merchandise and commercial product lines, working closely with Sponsorship Executive & Marketing.
- Lead corporate sales for the Royal Highland Show (e.g., hospitality, group bookings, commercial packages).
- Contribute to the development of new revenue-generating projects, products, or commercial models.
What You’ll Bring
Essential
- Proven experience in business development, commercial growth, or new revenue generation, ideally within events, exhibitions, visitor attractions, or complex commercial environments.
- A strong track record of identifying, developing, and delivering new income streams, partnerships, or commercial opportunities from concept to contract.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build rapport at all levels.
- Strong project management and organisational skills; comfortable handling multiple priorities and developing new initiatives in evolving environments.
- Experience working cross-functionally and engaging constructively with multiple internal stakeholders.
- Commercial awareness and financial literacy, including pricing, value propositions, and return on investment.
- Proficiency in CRM systems and MS Office Suite.
Desirable
- Familiarity with sponsorship management software or platforms.
- Experience working with boards, high-level sponsors, or trustees.
- Knowledge of merchandise sales and corporate hospitality logistics.

As Commercial Business Development Manager for the South Region, you'll be responsible for driving the development of high-quality tender submissions. This will include undertaking market analysis and strategic service design in collaboration with colleagues from across the organisation, including operations, clinical, finance and HR.
Key priorities will include:
Project management: leading a project team to produce high-quality, competitive, and financially viable bids.
Bid writing: contributing to the writing of technical responses, implementation plans, and service models.
Commercial modelling: developing costed pricing models that reflect specifications, internal cost structures and delivery models.
Strategic analysis and pipeline development: monitoring market trends, commissioner expectations, and competitor positioning to inform our regional pipelines.
Collaboration: working closely with Directors, Operational Leads and other Subject Matter Experts to prepare for commissioning and tendering activity, including designing service models.
Compliance & quality: ensuring all models comply with procurement regulations and public sector contracting expectations.
This is a permanent, full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. You will work from home, with travel across England and Scotland as required. The salary for this role is £37,000 to £44,290, depending on experience.

Do you have experience of working in a high-value fundraising team with a track record of meeting and exceeding financial and KPI targets? Would you like to partner with senior stakeholders to help deliver meaningful impact on the lives of people affected by dementia?
We are recruiting for a Fundraising Development Manager to join on a full-time basis, working 35 hours per week. This is a fixed-term, maternity cover contract for 12 months with an ideal start date in April 2026. This is a home-based role, though you will be required to occasionally travel into London (once a month maximum).
As Fundraising Development Manager, your role will be vital to the success of Alzheimer’s Society’s fundraising and engagement activities which are led and supported by our Development boards. You will play an important part in the delivery of our Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD) campaign, a movement in partnership with senior level supporters from the insurance industry. This award-winning campaign has raise £12million to date and set a target to reach £20million by 2030 to fund projects that will accelerate progress towards beating dementia - while helping raise awareness of Alzheimer’s Society and increase understanding of the UK’s biggest killer.
You will be responsible for securing and maximising income from multiple channels, including our annual flagship industry fundraising event – Insurance Day for Dementia. You will support individual and team high value fundraising challenges, and lead communications activity with these influential supporters and their sector, utilising relationships with industry media and tools including LinkedIn.
To achieve success, you will manage relationships with insurance industry professionals at the highest levels. You will also support (where required) on activities through Sport United Against Dementia (SUAD), our comparable campaign led by some of the most senior figures in the world of sport. This may include developing tools for industry supporters and activities or supporting activation opportunities at exciting sporting events. Ultimately, this role will give you the chance to use your skills to deliver meaningful impact on the lives of people affected by dementia.
Interviews for this role have been provisionally scheduled to take place via MS Teams on Friday 13th and Monday 16th February.
About you
Joining us, you will have experience of working in a high-value fundraising team or equivalent environment, with a track record of meeting and exceeding financial and KPI targets. You’ll have experience of successfully overseeing projects or managing events from start to finish.
Crucially, you’ll have proven experience of managing and forming trusted relationships with senior stakeholders. You’ll be able to use your communication skills and your experience of writing external communications to gain support through written proposals and in face-to-face meetings.
What you’ll focus on:
- Leading on relationships with key IUAD Board members – senior leaders from the Insurance industry - to maximise events and communications opportunities, to maintain and maximise supporter motivation and engagement.
- Leading IUAD events and communications working groups / workstreams, successfully influencing, negotiating with, and aiding board members to achieve success.
- Building and maintaining effective and productive relationships with staff and volunteers at all levels, to maximise opportunities and income for the Society.
- Playing a key role in the strategy, planning, delivery and growth of our annual industry fundraising day, the Insurance Day for Dementia - from marketing to stewardship, helping the event to continue growth toward a £500,000 annual target.
- Project managing our involvement in industry awards and conferences, or other third-party fundraising events.
- Providing first class stewardship and recognition to all supporters.
- Working closely with Development Boards Lead and Senior Philanthropy Manager, developing and delivering compelling campaign messages and case for support for IUAD and other Development Boards as required.
