Citizens UK
Citizens UK is the UK’s biggest, most diverse and most effective people-powered alliance. We bring communities and local organisations together to work on issues that matter; from campaigning for zebra crossings on dangerous roads, to reforming the immigration system, to the Living Wage campaign. We have a track record of winning change through hundreds of local and national campaigns. We know everyday people have the ability to shape the world around them. We believe that through developing local leaders, we can drive nationwide change and create community-led solutions to big and small problems.
Living Wage Foundation
The Living Wage movement began in 2001, after Citizens UK brought together communities in East London to discuss poverty and low pay. The campaign grew in momentum and soon required a mechanism to recognise employers who wanted to join the movement, which saw the establishment of the Living Wage Foundation in 2011.
Still part of Citizens UK today, the Living Wage Foundation continues to work with community organisations to make sure the voices of both workers and businesses are part of the Living Wage movement. We now work with over 16,000 employers, benefitting half a million people and winning over £3bn of better wages for people who need it most.
Citizens UK works with a broad base of institutions across the political spectrum. At the Living Wage Foundation, we take the same deliberately broad-based approach and accredit all organisations who pay the real Living Wage to their directly and indirectly employed staff and are committed to tackling in work poverty. As a team we work across a range of industries and sectors to achieve this mission. We seek pragmatic coalitions to progress specific campaigns, and partnership around a particular issue such as Living Wage, does not imply an endorsement of broader purpose and policies. We are a non-partisan organisation and work with partners across the political spectrum to advance our mission.
Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised and proactive communications professional with a strong background in media relations, public messaging, and team leadership. This role will work closely with Citizens UK colleagues, including the Citizens UK communications team on cross-organisational priorities. You will report to the Head of Communications.

About Axiom Maths
Axiom Maths is a maths education charity on a mission to help every child with the heart and head for maths realise the potential of their power - especially those whose potential is too often held back by disadvantage. Every year 30,000 children who were top performers at the end of primary school don’t go on to get top GCSE grades in maths. We aim to change that by partnering with schools across England and Wales to run fully-funded in-school or online maths circles. Pupils tackle challenging and rewarding maths problems in a supportive social group where the subject is valued.

This is an exciting chance to share your passion for maths, challenge young minds and nurture mathematical talent in your local community.
As a Maths Excellence Tutor, you will lead weekly extracurricular maths circles sessions with small groups of carefully selected high-attaining pupils at local schools. These aren't ordinary lessons. Pupils tackle challenging and rewarding problems together, lose themselves in mathematical thinking, and leave each session a little more confident in who they are as mathematicians.
You will typically lead a minimum of 3 maths circles per week, where available. You will be working with our regional School Partnerships team who will support with the schools you are working in and keep you connected with what is happening across the region. Your schools will have a designated contact who will offer insights and guidance to help your maths circles thrive. You will be provided with training, introductory videos, and curriculum materials for every session, so you can focus on what matters: sparking curiosity and building the next generation of mathematicians.

Build a community of mathematicians: Help pupils see themselves as mathematicians and feel part of a larger network of like-minded peers supporting each other
Develop in-school connections: Work closely with in-school staff to tailor your maths circle to their school context and to meet pupil needs
Reporting and feedback:

We're looking for people who are passionate about maths and want to help bring positive change to the young people we support. You should have a strong conceptual understanding of mathematics and the enthusiasm to inspire others with it. You should also be highly organised and self-motivated, with the drive to make a real difference.
We exist to serve pupils from backgrounds that are under-represented in university mathematics, and believe that we do this better when our team includes people who are from these backgrounds themselves. If you consider yourself to be from a background where progressing to university mathematics is not the norm then we strongly encourage you to apply.
About the role
This is an exciting chance to share your passion for maths, challenge young minds and nurture mathematical talent in your local community.
As a Maths Excellence Tutor, you will lead weekly extracurricular maths circles sessions with small groups of carefully selected high-attaining pupils at local schools. These aren't ordinary lessons.
