About Bipolar UK

Bipolar UK is the only national charity dedicated to supporting people affected by bipolar — including individuals, carers, families and loved ones. Over one million people in the UK live with bipolar disorder, yet many experience symptoms for years before receiving an accurate diagnosis.

We are entering an exciting new phase following the launch of our co-produced three-year strategy (2026–2029).  Purpose:  The Peer Support Officer role will work within Bipolar UK’s Peer Support Line team to support our community through telephone and email support across the UK.

The role involves using your skills and knowledge to support people affected by bipolar disorder with support requests and providing information and signposting to people via email and telephone. The successful applicant will also manage service reports in Salesforce, report back regularly to the management team, as well as developing links with other mental health services or appropriate agencies.

Though Bipolar UK does not offer Crisis Support, the successful applicant may have to direct members of our community experiencing a crisis to relevant services and will also be responsible for recognising and reporting Safeguarding incidents within the bounds of Bipolar UK’s Safeguarding Policies.

The position requires good personal interaction and the ability to empathise with service users while remaining calm and considered in sometimes difficult situations.  This is a varied and hands on role and we are looking for someone with good communication (verbal and written) along with good organisational skills. Bipolar UK will offer the successful applicant regular support and engagement with the team, as well as reflective practice sessions throughout their service with the charity.

The Peer Support Officer reports to the Services Manager who manages this service. This will be a home-based role with occasional travel, such as team days/meetings/training.

Specific Responsibilities

• Act as an initial point of contact with the charity for all enquiries about our services
• Act as an initial point of contact for all people affected by bipolar disorder seeking support, information and signposting
• Direct enquiries for Bipolar UK’s additional services, including understanding Bipolar UK’s specific resources and training opportunities for workplaces and connections for research
• Build and maintain relationships with existing volunteers and with volunteers expressing interest in supporting Bipolar UK
• Ensure that all service provided by both the postholder complies operationally with Bipolar UK policies and procedures, including safeguarding and data protection postholder must handle personal/special category data confidentially and in line with policy/UK GDPR
• Contribute to the development and delivery of new formats of peer support in a spirit of co-production
• Ability to work flexibly and responsively, responding to urgent requirements
• To ensure that all support information and signposting options are kept up to date
• To complete all support records in a timely manner
• Reporting all Safeguarding concerns and crisis incidents in line with Bipolar UK’s relevant policies

Want to work with multiple award-winning charity, FoodCycle? As Regional Manager you will represent, manage and co-ordinate your allocated regional Projects. Our Projects are spaces where volunteers are empowered to run community meals using surplus food.​

You will manage local relationships with venues, community partners, supermarkets and volunteer recruitment channels to enable this to happen. Headway UK developed the Approved Provider Scheme in 2011, which is a voluntary standards-based accreditation, for rehabilitation and residential units for people with a brain injury and we are looking for a new part time team member.

By participating in the scheme Approved Provider units affirm their dedication to excellent care, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement. The accreditation of units is then published for families, individuals and professionals to help inform their choices when identifying suitable provision for brain injury survivors. Our accreditation process is designed to be collaborative and supportive, guiding units through every step towards achieving and maintaining exemplary service standards.

The role will involve, conducting and writing assessments and working with the Approved Provider and Training Manager to manage Lead Assessors, who are based around the UK and the Service User Perspective Assessors, who are either brain injury survivors, or family members/ carers.

What you will do:

• Conduct Approved Provider assessments, which includes going into brain injury residential units and assessing the services they provide and making recommendations, to improve practice against the framework.

About you

Overview:

Job Title: Compost Coordinator

Responsible to: Community Delivery & Development Lead

Compost Culture is a five-year project taking place in Birmingham, supported by the National Lottery’s Climate Action Fund (NLCAF) and led by Incredible Surplus, that seeks to change the narrative on compost and support behaviour change, following a two- year initial project. This project will involve practical compost and growing initiatives alongside creative media and storytelling to show the relevance and importance of compost in how society moves forward. The project will build a resilient, self-sustaining network of composting and growing activity across Birmingham. It will inspire and support individuals, community groups, organisations and businesses to try composting and embed it as part of their daily activity and press the local authority and other agencies to support hyper-local composting as a valuable element of food waste management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop a “Compost Village” approach across project sites by building strong relationships with households, community organisations, churches, local groups and schools.
• Facilitate community knowledge-sharing around composting, soil health, waste reduction, and the role composting plays in climate action and local sustainability.
• Support the development of local composting loops, encouraging communities to reuse organic materials effectively and reduce waste.
• Deliver a strong schools-focused programme, including educating pupils and school staff on composting, biodiversity, and environmental responsibility.
• Support the installation and ongoing use of Ridan composting systems within schools alongside other composting methods appropriate to each setting.
• Work collaboratively across project delivery, supporting wider engagement activities and site-based practical work. 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

• A genuine passion for nature, sustainability, composting, and environmental education.
• Basic understanding of soil health, composting processes, growth cycles, and the organisms that support healthy ecosystems.
• Interest in biodiversity, wildlife, and “mini beasts” that contribute to healthy soil systems.

This is a grant funded role, fixed term for two years, with the opportunity for conversion to a permanent role should funding allow.

Main Purpose of the Role:

To provide proactive, emotional, and practical support to families and individuals affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) across Scotland. The role will focus on early engagement, wellbeing assessment, community building, and delivery of workshops and events, while ensuring accurate tracking of support outcomes and data.  
 
The successful candidate will also lead on support for young people living with Duchenne during 2 key transition points (primary to secondary school stage and moving into adulthood). They will work closely with the England-based Transitions Coordinator to deliver a joined-up programme of support across the UK. 

Specific Tasks:

1. Proactive Family Support 

• Initiate contact with newly registered families within agreed timeframes (email within 3 working days, call within 7–10 working days) 

• Contact to be made to all registered Action Duchenne members, knows to us in Scotland, to ensure the current support offer is clear  

• Provide ongoing support tailored to individual needs, including emotional wellbeing, physical health, housing, financial security, self-esteem and respect, decision-making, social engagement, quality of life, and access to care 

• Use the Action Duchenne Assessment Form and Action Plan to identify and respond to areas of concern 

2. Transitions Support 

· Lead transition support across all nations, with a focus on Scotland, for children and young people facing key life changes, including: 

· Moving between educational settings such as primary to secondary 

· Transitioning from paediatric to adult health services 

· Changes in mobility and independence (e.g. transitioning to using powerchairs)

· You will lead, but expected to work collaboratively with the England-based Transition Coordinator to ensure consistency and continuity of support across the UK 

· Develop resources, guidance, and workshops to support families through transitions 

3. Wellbeing Tracking and Outcome Measurement 

· Administer wellbeing questionnaires and record scores across key domains (e.g. physical health, emotional wellbeing, financial security) 

· Collaborate with families to co-create action plans and track progress 

· Ensure all data is entered into CRM (E-Tapestry or similar) within the allotted timeframe, i.e. immediately after or during the call. 

4. Community Engagement and Event Delivery 

· Organise and deliver regional meetups (minimum one per quarter) 

· Facilitate support groups (virtual and in-person) for parents, young people, and extended family 

· Support delivery of workshops and events aligned with programme schedule (e.g. music, life skills, employability) 

5. Stakeholder Collaboration 

· Liaise with external organisations including NHS care advisors and clinics, local authorities, counselling services, and other charities 

· Represent Action Duchenne in Scotland and build relationships with local networks 

6. Administration and Reporting 

· Maintain accurate records of all interactions and support provided 

· Contribute to quarterly reporting on activity delivery, capacity utilisation, and family impact 

· Support development of CRM processes and service delivery improvements

Working closely with the Director of Fundraising and alongside the Strategic Partnerships and Trusts teams, you will be responsible for setting clear plans, developing effective fundraising approaches, and ensuring strong systems, processes and supporter experiences are in place to drive sustainable income growth.

You will lead the delivery and development of community fundraising, challenge events, individual giving through community activity, and in-memory fundraising. A key part of the role will be developing a clear and engaging events and fundraising volunteer offer, including an effective induction process that enables volunteers to fundraise confidently on behalf of Bipolar UK.

This role requires a thoughtful, organised and people-centred manager who understands how to balance ambition with compassion in a mental health charity context.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic leadership and planning

• Develop and deliver a clear community and events fundraising strategy aligned with Bipolar UK’s wider fundraising and organisational goals.
• Translate strategy into achievable annual plans, income targets and team objectives.
• Use insight, data and evaluation to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
• Work with the Director of Fundraising to forecast income, manage risk and maximise return on investment.

2. Community and events fundraising delivery

• Lead the planning, delivery and growth of a portfolio of community fundraising initiatives and challenge events, both in person and online.
• Ensure a consistently high-quality supporter experience across all community and events activity.
• Oversee web content and digital resources to support community and event fundraising
• Identify and develop new fundraising opportunities that align with Bipolar UK’s mission, values and supporter base.
• Act as an ambassador for Bipolar UK at key events when required.

3. Volunteer fundraising offer

• Develop a clear, accessible and motivating events and community fundraising volunteer offer.
• Design and implement an effective volunteer induction process, ensuring fundraisers feel confident, supported and well-equipped.
• Work with colleagues to ensure volunteer fundraising activity is aligned with safeguarding, wellbeing and organisational policies.

4. Digital campaigns and income growth

• Lead on the planning and delivery of digital-led community and events fundraising campaigns.
• Work collaboratively with Marketing and Communications colleagues to develop supporter journeys, content and communications that drive engagement and income.
• Develop approaches to grow connected income streams, including regular giving and in-memory giving, through community and digital activity.
• Monitor performance, assess impact and report clearly on outcomes and learning.

5. Supporter experience and stewardship

• Ensure supporters are stewarded with care, empathy and professionalism, recognising the personal connection many have to bipolar.
• Oversee thanking, updating and re-engagement activity to build long-term supporter relationships.
• Ensure accurate and compliant use of the CRM and fundraising data.

6. Team leadership and organisational contribution

• Line-manage and support the Fundraising Officer and Supporter Engagement Assistant, providing clear direction, coaching and development.
• Create a positive, supportive and high-performing team culture focused on impact and learning.
• Oversee income and expenditure for the community and events portfolio, monitoring budgets and performance against targets.
• Contribute to organisational planning, cross-team working and the development of efficient systems and processes.
• Evaluate performance and produce insight-led reports to support decision-making and improvement.

Essential Criteria

• Significant experience managing community and/or events fundraising, with a track record of achieving income and engagement targets.
• Experience of line-managing staff and leading a small team to deliver effectively.

• Demonstrable experience of digital fundraising and use of online fundraising platforms.

About you

Do you want to use your skills to make it possible for people with myeloma to live longer and better lives?  We are looking for a Peer Service Co-ordinator who will facilitate the delivery of our Peer Service and collaborate on the future development and improvements of the service.

You will have experience of recruiting, training, and supervising staff or volunteers. Experience working with a diverse range of communities would be an advantage as we are looking to increase our reach. The role holder will have an understanding of the challenges that may arise from delivering digital/telephone support and the ability to understand and meet training and development needs of volunteers.

You’ll have excellent communication, organisational and IT skills as well as being self-motivated, committed with a desire to make a difference and willing to develop and expand the role.  Experience of facilitating peer support services, with a focus on volunteer/user involvement in service delivery would be an advantage but not essential.

About the role

The Peer Service Co-ordinator will facilitate and develop the Peer Service, a tailored support service utilising volunteers to provide peer support both in and out of standard office hours.

The postholder will be expected to train and develop the volunteers who support the Peer Buddy service, make suggestions for improvements and recruit and train new volunteers to increase the diversity of the volunteer pool. You will support in delivering ongoing improvements and further service development to enhance the offerings of the peer service while working with the Peer Service Lead to ensure possible risks have been identified, assessed and effective risk management strategies have been put in place.

You will need to develop and maintain a good understanding of myeloma and its’ related conditions, including patient need, and develop and evaluate the service in line with this. 

This role will be part of the team responsible for running this service and provide supervision and training to volunteers. They will be expected to adhere to safeguarding principles and good governance.
