A new role, the Finance Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the charity's day-to-day finances, contracts and risk management. As a member of the senior leadership team, they will support the CEO with strategic planning. A key part of the role will include financial planning and administrative support for the charity’s fundraising efforts as part of a £6.5m conservation and renovation programme. They will lead the preparation for, and presentations at the charity’s Board and related finance committees.

The postholder will ensure that the charity’s budget and out turn are closely monitored and that established financial controls, spanning the procurement to payments cycle, are firmly adhered to. They will lead budget setting, forecasting, and financial reporting (including management of the external audit and production of the annual report and accounts) and will support wider work programme-planning for the charity, setting the foundations for financial success and sustainability. In addition, the postholder will act as the central finance liaison with the Inns of Court of Inner and Middle Temple – TCT’s principal funders – as well as with other stakeholders, donors and cross-departmentally.

Candidates should meet the following essential criteria:

CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualified accountant

Experience in a senior/ management financial position in a charity/ not for profit

Experience of managing cash and investments.

Effective communications skills both written and oral

Excellent IT skills including MS Office and Finance Systems

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will be key part of our Wellbeing and Communities directorate, offering vital support and strategic direction to our Learning and Wellbeing team to achieve our vision and meet funder requirements and coordinating the development of a new partnership aimed at improving health and wellbeing for people across North and West Bristol. You will lead a team that combines wellbeing and health and employment support, as well as offering support and synergy to other teams in the directorate. This role will ensure support for wider social issues, such as debt, housing, family and health barriers faced to engage with employment and learning opportunities.

You will work closely with our Senior Wellbeing and Learning Coach to develop interventions to improve confidence, physical and mental health and employment prospects.

You will work closely with our Wellbeing and Communities Development Manager to ensure synergy between our wellbeing teams and develop our service offer.

Salary: £35, 455 - £36, 887 (with pending cost of living rise in April 2026)

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Partnerships

· To develop and contribute to forums and partnerships that support the growth of our work in North Bristol, including working closely with health partners (community health, Primary Care and acute services) and the learning and employment sectors to develop collaborative services.

· To oversee the Learning and Wellbeing Service and activities, ensuring they meet funder requirements, targets, and quality standards, and are safe, effective and well-managed, including oversight of reporting and budgets and providing leadership and guidance to the Senior Coach.

· To support the development and delivery of the Healthy Ageing Research Project and Community Consortium, working closely with the CEO and Wellbeing and Communities Development Manager.

· To deputise for the Wellbeing and Communities Development Manager at relevant meetings and support the ongoing development of the Communities and Wellbeing team to meet Southmead Development Trust’s strategic objectives.

· To embed community development principles across all work, including strength-based approaches, participant involvement, engagement, and the nurturing of volunteers to help build a resilient community.

· To ensure the safe and effective delivery of activities, interventions and services, including oversight of risk assessments, safeguarding processes, data recording and quality assurance, in collaboration with the Wellbeing and Communities Development Manager.

· To work alongside research partners to develop effective methods for evidencing the impact and effectiveness of interventions, activities and services.

Team Leadership and Line Management

· To lead and inspire the team to create a positive and collaborative culture.

· Coordinate, manage and supervise our Learning and Wellbeing team, and other practitioners as appropriate.

· To provide proactive performance management of staff via the Trusts’ processes, to include but not limited to, holding monthly one-to-one meetings, establishing development opportunities and training.

· To lead team meetings and ensure all practitioners have access to reflective practice and appropriate training

Systems and Marketing

· To work with SDT colleagues and others to improve systems and processes to best support services and other contractual obligations

· To be a key advocate for Beacon database

· To work alongside SDTs Communications Manager to ensure that our services and activities are known and understood by residents of Southmead and North Bristol

Relationship Development, Fundraising New Opportunities 

· Build relationships with external agencies, organisations and stakeholders to best support staff and participants and develop new opportunities for delivery and collaborative working. 

· Coordinate the Learning and Wellbeing steering group meeting, gathering feedback, advice and ideas to continually improve the service

· Work with teams across Southmead Development Trust to develop engagement and volunteering opportunities for participants.

· Produce content, with the support of the communications team, for social media, mail shots and other channels, to promote and celebrate our wellbeing and learning work

· To develop external funding bids and proposals to sustain and expand our programmes, working with colleagues from the Senior Leadership Team and across the Trust; supporting other income generating activities including supporting the development of tender responses to sustain health and wellbeing initiatives

Following the appointment of our current Chief Executive in 2025, we are embarking on an exciting new chapter and developing a strategy that aims to extend our impact by addressing key rural issues facing communities locally, namely; access to jobs and services, affordable housing, and health and wellbeing.

It is initially a 12 month role, but we are actively seeking longer term financing for it. The role will:

• Recruit a cohort of Scotland-based spokespeople to be trained by NEON and then booked into the media
• Run the Scottish Spokesperson Network - helping NEON position itself as an aide to broadcast journalists and helpful to NGOs, campaign groups and activists on the ground - with a particular focus

About the Spokesperson Network

The Spokesperson Network trains and supports people to speak on television and radio. We are substantially boosting the number of progressive, diverse voices in this space to challenge opposition narratives and boost coverage of underrepresented issues.

The programme works by training, coaching and providing PR booking support for spokespeople from civil society working on social, environmental and economic issues. So far we’ve had over 11,000 high-profile media bookings including Question Time, Newsnight, Good Morning Britain, LBC, Channel 4 News, BBC 5 Live, Today, Sky News and ITV News plus many more.

What you will be doing

Here are the key responsibilities of this role:

• Run two Scotland-based Spokesperson Network Trainings
• Keep on top of the current trends and topics in the Scottish media and political environment
• Seek to book the spokespeople who have been trained into the media - with expectations of providing each person trained with ongoing media opportunities
• Support on the Spokesperson Network more widely - booking people into the UK-wide media.
• Be a key part of the Comms Hub - helping with other peoples projects, delivering training and bringing insight and ideas to team spaces.
• Play an active part in the whole NEON team, contributing to organisation-wide plans

Who you are:

• Experience in journalism, communications, media relations or a role that incorporates these skills.

Hours

Full-time, which for NEON is 28 hours a week - the equivalent of a 4 day standard work week. This can be done over 4 or 5 days, that’s totally up to you. Hours are generally flexible, with some core meetings everyone has to be at.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Project Officer, working predominantly in the South London area, to lead the development and delivery of river and catchment restoration projects. You will oversee work from early concept and design stages through to physical implementation, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget and to a high standard. As part of our Restoring Rivers and Catchments Team, you’ll help shape ambitious, meaningful projects that benefit local rivers, wildlife and communities. Whilst you will be predominantly working on projects for the Hogsmill, Wandle, Beverley Brook and Cray rivers, you may be required to work on other projects within the wider SERT region.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and design restoration and enhancement projects using best practice and sound science.

• Lead feasibility work, secure all necessary permissions and manage stakeholder relationships.

• Oversee on-site delivery, managing contractors, volunteers and project partners.

• Ensure robust Health & Safety compliance across all project activities.

Policy Campaigns Officer

A permanent position has arisen as part of the continued growth of our campaigns work within our friendly Policy, Public Affairs and Campaigns department. The Policy Campaigns Officer will play a key role in helping the charity deliver high-impact campaigns that mobilise supporters, influence policy, and raise awareness of issues relating to dementia research.

In this role you will support the Campaigns Manager to deliver integrated advocacy campaigns aligned to Alzheimer's Research UK’s strategic objectives. You will contribute to the coordination, development and implementation of activity that connects public mobilisation with policy and government influencing priorities.

You will bring proven experience of working on advocacy or policy-focused campaigns, or in a closely related field where influencing decision makers and engaging the public has been central to your work. You will understand how campaigning activity contributes to political or institutional change and will be confident supporting the delivery of campaign tactics across digital and offline channels.

This role is ideal if you are looking to build on existing advocacy or influencing experience in a collaborative team, contributing to campaigns that aim to deliver measurable policy impact.

Key Responsibilities:

Campaign development and delivery

· Support the development and delivery of integrated advocacy and policy campaigns aligned to organisational priorities.

About the role

Sitting within our people and organisational development team and reporting into the senior learning & organisational development manager, you’ll support us with a wide range of administrative duties across the learning & development; people; equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and internal communications & engagement functions.

As the first point of contact for all learning management system (LMS) user and administrative queries you’ll maintain and housekeep our LMS as well as help coordinate and administer internal and external training programmes, workshops and learning events. You’ll also provide administrative support across our core people activities, including invoicing, onboarding, offboarding, and the employee lifecycle processes.

You’ll use our HR management systems to develop and maintain regular people management reports and liaise with the people and EDI teams to ensure employee and training records are updated.

About you

You’ll have experience of working with information systems ideally within a HR function and be able to use an administrative system or database. You’ll have the ability to work as part of a small hybrid team and possess strong organisational skills and excellent written and verbal communications skills allowing you to always work together when in the office or when working from home. Neotree: The Digital Learning Health System

Neotree is an award-winning digital learning health system co-designed with frontline clinicians to end preventable newborn deaths in low-resource settings. Our open-source platform integrates real-time, knowledge-based clinical decision support (CDS), structured data capture, and visual dashboards into routine neonatal care. Currently active in 18 healthcare facilities, Neotree has supported care for 60,000 newborns and trained over 3,000 health workers to date. Neotree is the only platform of its kind with a defined pathway to embed AI-enabled decision support into routine neonatal care in sub-Saharan Africa.

Neotree: The Charity

The UK charity was established by core members of the University College London (UCL) Neotree research project to maximise the impact of their research on the quality of newborn care and newborn mortality. After five years of rapid growth and proven clinical impact, Neotree is seeking a visionary Executive Director to lead our next chapter. Having evolved from an innovative research pilot into a multi-country digital health intervention, integrated into routine neonatal care in Malawi and Zimbabwe, Neotree is poised for national-scale rollout and scale up, alongside rigorous ongoing monitoring and evaluation.

The Opportunity: Impact at Scale

By 2030 the ambition is for Neotree to be a fully integrated, sustainable standard of care across Malawi and Zimbabwe, having been handed over to, and owned by, their respective Ministries of Health. The incoming Executive Director will lead this transition, shifting the organisation from a research-led implementation partner to one able to scale up a digital public good (currently a DPGA Nominee with a full submission for DPG designation under review).

While the technological landscape, and specific delivery modules, will evolve, the Executive Director will ensure Neotree remains a safe, cost-effective, equitable, and evidence-based system that is successfully embedded within national digital health infrastructures.

A key focus will be driving the roadmap for system interoperability to ensure Neotree is a future-proofed platform. 4.4. Fundraising Strategy: Design and deliver a diverse fundraising strategy that further moves the organisation toward financial resilience and reduced dependence on major academic grants.

4.5. Partnerships & External Relations: Serve as one of the primary ambassadors for Neotree, alongside our Principal Investigators and co-founder Professor Michelle Heys. Define priority stakeholders, and build and maintain relationships with those high-level strategic partners to drive adoption and raise Neotree’s profile.

Key Priorities for the First 12-18 Months

The new Executive Director will focus on the following key priorities during their initial 12-18 months:

1. Successful Project Delivery & Ministry of Health Partnerships. Ensure successful delivery of the projects currently in flight, in both Malawi and Zimbabwe. This includes partnerships with the Ministries of Health in both countries to build and hand over neonatal modules in their EHR systems based on Neotree, and support their successful rollout.

2. Strategic Plan Development. Develop a 3-5 year plan with the Board, academic partners, and wider project team to build on our existing foundation to expand Neotree – including addressing research gaps, using AI to improve clinical decision support, and finding ways to expand the adoption of the technology in Zimbabwe, Malawi, and beyond. Sustainability is a core part of that strategy.

3. Strategic Plan Execution. Execute on that plan, including securing funding, building partnerships, and further developing the Neotree team.

Office location: Your primary place of work will be at home, but significant time will be spent out and about meeting supporters and colleagues. Pepper has access to meeting facilities and a small operational base in Berkhamsted.

Area of operation: Fundraising will take place in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. There will be occasional visits and meetings outside this area.

Key requirements:

• Work with trustees and colleagues to develop organisational and fundraising strategies, business plans and budgets.

• Work closely with the charity’s communications, marketing and PR agency to manage the charity’s online presence including website and social media platforms and extend the charity’s audience reach to generate support for fundraising campaigns and events.

• Work with the fundraising team to deliver events and initiatives and build relationships to raise funds for the charity

• Build fundraising campaigns to gain support through direct marketing

• Deliver agreed fundraising strategies, business plans and budgets

• Drive, monitor and report on the progress of the fundraising strategy and budget

• Ensure that the charity’s case for support is compelling, inspirational and effective

• Maximise, develop and retain records of financial contributions from all sources

The purpose of this role is to bring together two of FareShare South West’s (FSSW) most critical functions — community membership and food supply — to help transform our current impact, rescuing and sharing food for million more meals. The post holder will lead the development and implementation of both the membership and food strategies, ensuring our membership offer is responsive to community need, operational capacity and the changing landscape of surplus food.

This role is responsible for building and sustaining strong regional and national food partnerships, aligning supply with member demand, and ensuring food reaches the highest priority organisations. The post holder will lead and develop expert teams, strengthen cross-departmental collaboration, and drive service improvements, innovation and growth.

As a key member of the Wider Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the role ensures robust governance, accountability and performance across membership and food, contributing to
organisational strategy, financial sustainability and long-term impact for communities across the South West.

1) Strategic Leadership & Governance

• Provide visible, values-led leadership with clear accountability to the CEO and Board; ensuring teams are aligned behind a consistent culture and change agenda.
• Lead the creation and implementation of the membership and food strategies; delivering to budget, achieving ambitious targets, and embedding innovation for long-term growth.
• Contribute to the wider organisational strategy. Work with the CEO/SLT to set annual budgets and reforecasts, providing regular financial, key performance indicators (KPIs) and narrative reports to the CEO and Board.
• Lead the development and introduction of emerging surplus food types e.g., frozen food, re-labelling, catering packs into our operation, ensuring this is fully aligned across membership, food and operations teams.
• Identify and mitigate risks across the organisation, working with the Wider SLT to maintain an up-to-date risk register.
• Support the Deputy CEO to prepare timely inputs for the audited accounts and impact report and attend finance subcommittee meetings as required.
• Act as a passionate advocate of FareShare South West, representing the organisation confidently to internal and external stakeholders.
• Strengthen alignment between the membership and food teams by identifying and implementing innovative, effective solutions to ensure food reaches the highest priority organisations.

2) Food Partners and Supply

• With support from the CEO, lead on the key relationship with the national partner FareShare and The Felix Project, ensuring food supply is maximised and aligned with organisational needs.
• Be accountable for all incoming food supply, including national (70-75% of our total supply via FareShare and The Felix Project) and locally sourced (25-30%).
• Raise awareness of FSSW’s capability to redistribute surplus food and, with support from our communications team, position the organisation as the surplus food partner of choice in the region, leading on food campaigns, external activity, networks and events.
• Working with the Food Manager, maintain and grow local food partnerships across the South West to secure supply aligned with infrastructure, growth plans and community need—taking the lead on stewarding key suppliers and maintaining accurate records.
• Be accountable for food safety and compliance across the organisation, including product recalls, legislation changes, liaison with national partners and the Health and Safety consultant.
• Work closely with both the food and fundraising teams to develop and deliver a gleaning programme across the organisation.
• Work closely with the operations team to ensure all incoming food is compliant, within capacity limits, and aligned to local operational realities.
• Be accountable for key food related projects and reporting for relevant funders, working with the Finance Manager to ensure accurate procurement data.
• Be accountable for the food pipeline and for managing internal and external communications related to food availability, allocation, planning and future growth.

3) Community Membership Development

• Establish a refreshed, high value membership service and value proposition, aligned to surplus food supply, logistics capacity and community need.
• Ensure the membership team implements a data-driven strategy for recruitment and retention, incorporating member feedback, root cause analysis and performance insights.
• Develop and lead long-term, strategic partnerships aligned with the current and future needs of the membership programme, representing the organisation in South West networks relevant to FSSW’s mission.
• Work with the CEO and SLT to develop and scale membership programmes across regions (e.g., Crisis Resilience Fund).
• Lead efforts to reduce food waste across the organisation through improved membership offerings, bolt-on memberships and direct delivery models.
• Maintain a strong, collaborative relationship across the FareShare network, capturing and sharing best practice within membership development.
• Support major, complex development projects across the organisation (particularly those involving membership and food teams), ensuring inclusive working with internal teams and providing supporting business plans and financial forecasts.
• Be accountable for the quality and compliance of the membership CRM (Salesforce), ensuring accurate data for internal use and funder reporting.
• Develop metrics to support effective food allocation, and to manage current and future demand in line with logistics capacity.

4) People and Culture Management

• Lead, coach and develop managers and teams within your department and oversee their recruitment, appraisals, supervision, wellbeing and professional development.
• Build a collaborative, high performing culture across the membership and food teams, working closely with operations and volunteering.
• Champion values-led leadership and effective cross-departmental communication.
• Promote an inclusive, supportive and purpose-driven culture that motivates staff to contribute to the charity’s mission.
• Model and promote safe working behaviours across both functions, ensuring food safety conversations are part of everyday management.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure risk assessments, safe systems of work, and training are in place and reviewed regularly across food and membership functions.
• Ensure compliance with FareShare UK standards, the Health and Safety at Work Act, Food Safety and Hygiene Regulations.
• Ensure teams understand and comply with organisational policies, food safety requirements, health and safety legislation and safeguarding responsibilities.
• Working alongside the Head of Operations, lead regular food safety briefings and toolbox talks to reinforce safe behaviours and encourage open reporting.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria

• Proven leadership experience, including building high-performing teams.
• Experience in a food, logistics, FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) or operational supply-chain environment.
• Strong analytical and organisational skills, with confidence using data to inform decisions, manage budgets and track performance.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, able to influence and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable Criteria

• Knowledge of food safety, health & safety and regulatory requirements relevant to food handling and redistribution.
• Experience working in a charity, social enterprise or purpose-driven environment, with an understanding of community need and social impact.
• Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and confidence using digital tools to improve service delivery.
• Experience working cross-functionally, aligning teams around shared goals and improving processes between departments.
• Understanding of customer journeys or service-user engagement.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and it’s harming too many lives. At Prostate Cancer UK, one of our top priorities is funding research that leads to real change. It’s vital we do our best to make sure this research makes a meaningful difference to men’s lives, and that’s where you come in. 

We’re at an exciting time, with a new strategy coming soon, and so we are looking to grow our Research Funding Team. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Grant Manager to help us deliver our core funding schemes and embark on new, exciting initiatives to fund ground-breaking research that will revolutionise how prostate cancer is diagnosed and treated. 

You’ll take responsibility for a portfolio of around a third of our active research grants, providing support and guidance to the researchers leading them. You’ll be a main point of contact for grant applicants, supporting them through the application process and providing them with guidance about remit and eligibility. Using your understanding of research funding and administration, you’ll work with our Senior Research Officers to make sure our funding schemes run smoothly, to time and support our funding Committees in their review of the applications we receive. 

What the job involves

It’s crucial that we not only have fair and robust processes to ensure that we fund the very best research, but that we also closely monitor and support the delivery of the resulting projects, to maximise their impact and accelerate the advancements we see through research. Which is why we’re looking to appoint an experienced Grant Manager to join our Research Directorate.

As part of your responsibilities, you’ll manage a portfolio of our active research grants, closely monitoring their progress and finances, and provide valuable support and advice to our grant holders and their teams. You’ll develop a detailed understanding of the science behind these projects and build positive working relationships with the researchers and their institutions. You’ll monitor your portfolio for demonstrable outputs (publications, presentations, intellectual property etc.) and you’ll work closely with colleagues in other teams to help them better understand the research we fund in order to showcase this to our supporters and potential donors.

You’ll support the delivery of our research funding grant schemes, managing at least one of our grant rounds, whilst also supporting our other funding schemes, ensuring that we maintain robust processes and adhere to industry and department standards. You’ll also help direct on our activities to involve people with experience of prostate cancer in research, including their involvement in the assessment of the research proposals we receive, as well as supporting researchers to include patients in the design and delivery of their projects.

How and where we work

Colleagues attend the office at least four days per month (pro rata for part-time colleagues) to collaborate, build relationships, and support projects and decision-making. You can choose where to work the rest of the time. Travel to the office is a commute, so we pay our own travel costs.

Additional in-person attendance will be required during your first few months for induction and training, to support you to learn the role and get to know colleagues.
