Summary of the role:

The HR Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day HR operations, focusing on delivering high-quality HR services. The role oversees employee relations, employee experience, learning and development, reward, resourcing, talent management, people analytics, EDI, wellbeing and payroll. The HR Manager will ensure the effective execution of HR processes and the maintenance of HR good practices across Muslim Aid, with a specific focus on using HR metrics to inform strategic decisions.

1. Oversee and manage all aspects of HR operations, ensuring compliance with legal and organisational policies.
2. Oversee the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring they receive all necessary training and introductions to Muslim Aid policies.

Operations:

Human Resources and People Development

Compliance and Risk Management

• Maintain strong governance and adherence to best practices in charity management 

​Governance and Reporting

• Support the HR, Finance, Programmes and Fundraising teams, contributing to their work as required.

• Develop and produce monthly management reports for the CEO

IT and Office

BACKGROUND

The Helen Bamber Foundation (HBF) is a pioneering Human Rights charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers who are the survivors of trafficking and torture, including gender-based and ‘honour-based’ violence. Recognising the complexity of each client’s suffering and needs, the Foundation provides specialist medical consultation, therapeutic care, legal protection and practical support to survivors of human rights violations by helping men, women and children heal the emotional and physical damage they have suffered through torture, trafficking or other forms of cruelty.  We take the learning from our work to develop partnerships to increase survivors’ access to services, and use the learning generated by our clients and partners to drive system change.

Since August 2020, Asylum Aid has been part of the Helen Bamber Foundation Group. Asylum Aid operates as an independent charity, led by its own Executive Director within the group structure, and is ambitious about growing its impact and reach in the future to ensure protection from persecution for those who need it.  For over thirty years, Asylum Aid has been providing legal representation to some of the most vulnerable people seeking asylum. It has built an expert service, delivering vital and life-saving services in some of the most complex legal cases, with a particular speciality working with unaccompanied children, survivors of trafficking, torture or other forms of human cruelty, and stateless people. In this role you will support both charities alongside the CEO, Executive Director of Asylum Aid and Senior HR and Operations Officer.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

 The Head of People is a new role for the organsiation and you will be joining us at an exciting time, as we are moving into new offices and seek to drive forward our new 2025-2030 strategy.  This role will play a pivotal role in implementing our objective to be an employer of choice. maintaining and evolving our strong team culture, and strengthening our position as leader in evidence based management and leadership practices.  In this role you will be supported to develop the capacity, capability and human resource systems of the organisation to achieve impact at scale with a strong and effective team and will work in close collaboration with the CEO, the members of the Executive Leadership Team and Management Team as well as the Senior HR and Operations Officer.

Background

Hackney Migrant Centre (HMC) delivers a free advice and support service for vulnerable migrants who have immigration, housing, welfare and health problems. We support visitors to secure their immigration status and move out of homelessness and destitution in the long-term, as well as assisting to address immediate issues, such as access to healthcare. HMC’s work is informed by a vision of a UK where no one is forced into destitution, exploitation or vulnerability as a result of their immigration status.

We have secured funding from Trust for London to employ an Immigration Advisor. The Immigration Advisor will provide immigration advice and assist visitors to make immigration and asylum applications. The postholder will work alongside external advisors to provide initial immigration advice on matters including human rights based applications, asylum, trafficking and family reunion. Advisors will work alongside Immigration Caseworkers and volunteers to coordinate and oversee the next steps for visitors after the initial immigration advice has been provided.

This role sits within the Immigration team, consisting of an Immigration Team Manager (part time), an Immigration Caseworker and a Long Residence Immigration Caseworker. HMC also benefits from two Housing & Destitution Caseworkers and the support of a Fundraising Officer and Volunteer & Participation Manager who are managed by the Operations Manager and CEO. HMC is supported by over 50 dedicated volunteers who work across the organisation. In addition, HMC works closely with a number of partner organisations to ensure visitors can access specialist legal advice and long-term support with immigration, housing, destitution, health and wellbeing. These include, Together with Migrant Children and Islington Law Centre.

We are keen to hear from applicants who have OISC Level 3 accreditation, the equivalent IAAS or a valid exemption. We will consider applicants with OISC Level 2 accreditation who can demonstrate experience of skills required below.

MAIN DUTIES

1. Advice and casework

- Provide high quality advice and representation for visitors with complex or urgent cases, specific vulnerabilities or those who would otherwise face particular difficulty in accessing representation from legal aid providers. For advisors with Level 3 OISC accreditation, this will be up to and including appeal-stage casework.

- Assist in the supervising of the work of the Immigration Caseworkers and volunteers.

- Provide training to HMC’s volunteers on immigration issues and maintain up to date resources.

- Provide immigration advice and support to the Housing staff team where available housing options and routes out of destitution are dependent on future immigration applications.

2. Collaborative working

- Work with HMC’s existing external advice partners to ensure effective, co-ordination of advocacy and casework support on a wide range of issues.

- Develop links and partnerships with other organisations to enable effective joint working.

- Provide information, statistics and case studies to external and internal stakeholders to support campaigning, advocacy and research relevant to HMC’s visitor group.

- Work closely with partner organisations to identify legal issues affecting HMC’s visitor group and, where appropriate, contribute to litigation and strategic policy work undertaken by external stakeholders to address these matters.

3. Compliance and Regulation

- Ensure HMC is meeting the standards required to maintain OISC accreditation.

- Keep up to date with legislation and guidance required to provide immigration advice at OISC L3 or OISC L2 dependent on accreditation level and meet the relevant OISC competence requirements, including maintaining a Personal Competence record of personal objectives regarding training and development.

- Ensure accurate record keeping using HMC’s case management system.

- Work with the Immigration Team Manager to ensure an effective monitoring system for the work and outcomes of the Immigration Team for funding and reporting purposes.

- Administrative tasks relevant to the post.

4. OTHER DUTIES

The post holder will be expected to:

- Implement sensitively HMC’s policies and procedures, especially with regards to confidentiality and equal opportunities

- Work collaboratively with other HMC staff, volunteers and professional advisors

- Participate actively in staff meetings, and other meetings as may reasonably be required

- Attend HMC Trustees’ meetings as required

This is a very specific 6-9m post to support the growth of Crustacean Compassion. We are a not-for-profit animal welfare organisation which campaigns for the humane treatment of decapod crustaceans such as lobsters, crabs, prawns, and langoustines, based on the scientific evidence of their sentience. Our campaign work was responsible for the ground-breaking inclusion of decapod crustaceans in the recent Animal Sentience Act of 2022, a move which has opened more opportunities to influence change.

Purpose

Reporting to the CEO, the Fundraising Support Manager will support the Fundraising Manager in the fundraising efforts of Crustacean Compassion. This will be  role building on two specific areas of work already undertaken, specifically reviewing, and supporting major donors’ proposals, and developing the supporter journey and engagement process.

The applicant will need to have an active knowledge and warm contacts with potential funders, be able to prepare and create proposals immediately as well as use CRM or external screening sources to identify and communicate with potential major donors. They will have expertise across a variety of revenue streams and will have the support of our Campaigns team to develop engaging funding bids designed to create a supporter journey and long-term engagement.

This role will require a substantial amount of proactive independent working, along with close teamwork.

Responsibilities

Priority will be given to applicants with skills to work quickly and actively in the above  primary areas achieving set income targets, developing ways to maximise unrestricted income.

General Duties

• Implement the execution of the fundraising strategy to lead income streams, delivering growth in restricted and unrestricted income whilst engaging supporter journeys to active givers.
• Work effectively with our Fundraising Manager and CEO to identify, map, and develop a network of potential donors, and unlock opportunities which can help secure the future of Crustacean Compassion and aid it to deliver its mission.
• Ensure all fundraising initiatives are planned, delivered, monitored, and evaluated effectively as part of a quarterly activity plan recognising external funding cycles.
• Review the organisation’s CRM database, ensuring efficient and appropriate data capture and data analysis for the purposes of donor identification, effective stewardship, fundraising, donor communications, and supporter journey development.
• Co-ordinate effective systems for identifying, cultivating, and maintaining supporters to potential donors and relationships.
• Assist in the development, monitoring and management of Fundraising budgets and forecasts.
• Develop and update organisational Fundraising policies and procedures as necessary in line with any changes in data protection legislation and recommendations from the Fundraising Regulator

Major Donor Fundraising

• Review the current CRM to identify potential donors and work to lead and implement maximise income from major donors.
• Explore other wealth screening options to identify potential donors.
• Introduce your own warm contacts and knowledge of the animal welfare/effective altruism field to support income from individual major donors.
• Working closely with the Fundraising Manager and CEO, oversee the development of individual major donor relationships, and personally manage a portfolio of prospects and donors, as well as advising and supporting the CEO to do so.
• Monitor and support the ongoing recruitment, engagement, and development of high-profile supporter relationships.
• Develop and manage a rolling stewardship and engagement programme, including the use of online and in-person events where budget allows.
• Ensure that the organisational CRM database usage is optimised to facilitate major donor fundraising.

Individual Giving and Community Fundraising

• Review and develop the current supporter journey to lead a regular giving strategy, maximising unrestricted income and supporting donor uplift.
• Develop and implement a stewardship programme through the CRM database.
• With input from the wider team, develop and manage engaging appeals to be run alongside key campaign actions, monitoring their success, and updating activities where necessary, and evaluating performance to inform future appeal plans.
• Ensure that the organisational CRM database usage is optimised to facilitate individual giving and community fundraising.

Person specification

Essential

• At least five years of experience working in fundraising, with a proven track record of securing five to six figure gifts ideally in the Animal Welfare field.
• Experience in developing non-profit fundraising strategies, particularly for Major Donors and in developing a supporter journey.
• Evident track record of successfully meeting and exceeding fundraising targets.
• Knowledge and understanding of fundraising, including research sources and funding criteria.
• Evidence of developing successful fundraising applications to institutional and individual grant funders, especially within the Effective Altruism community.
• Demonstrably skilled and experienced in networking to build relationships, as well as able to build strong and lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
• Advanced prospect researching skills.
• Outstanding written communication skills, including the ability to write engaging copy which presents Crustacean Compassion as an appealing partner for donors.
• Excellent negotiating, diplomacy, and people skills.
• Able to demonstrate a commitment and sensitivity to the aims and objectives of Crustacean Compassion.
• Comfortable working in a small team, liaising effectively with colleagues to drive income alongside campaign objectives.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Research & Evaluation Manager in our Social & Behavioural Research team, developing our Behavioural Evidence & Interventions portfolio.

We need you to lead the design, delivery and commissioning of methodologically robust research, evaluation and intervention design covering the prevention, diagnosis, screening and treatment of cancer. This means working closely with academics, stakeholders, policy makers and market research agencies to collect mixed methods data, ensuring we can fulfil our evidence needs and recruit large and diverse samples.

You will also provide consultancy and training to support the delivery of qualitative and quantitative health research, and the application of behavioural/implementation science approaches to ultimately improve cancer outcomes.

What will I be doing?

• Collaborating with internal teams to prioritise and deliver a portfolio of research, evaluation and intervention development/implementation which achieves maximum impact in relation to CRUK's strategic objectives

• Project managing and advising on research, evaluation and intervention development/ implementation, from development of the design and methods to communication or results internally and externally

• Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with research, evaluation, behaviour change and implementation experts, making the most of opportunities for collaboration to help achieve CRUK's strategic priorities, including generating academic publications where possible

• Leading the procurement process for the commissioning of external suppliers (e.g. market research agencies)

• Preparing and delivering communications including presentations, reports, peer-reviewed papers and conference presentations/posters to a high standard, working with colleagues and external researchers as appropriate

• Maximising the impact of research, evaluation, intervention development and implementation on internal decision making and external influencing activities through strategic planning, and proactively monitor impact over time

• Using research outputs and knowledge of related research to influence colleagues at all levels to make appropriate changes to their activities, communications, strategic plans and priorities

• Representing behavioural/implementation science and evaluation expertise in PIC and CRUK-wide initiatives including within PIC's governance structure, ensuring visibility of relevant research, evaluation, intervention development and implementation

• Managing a Researcher and Administrator, ensuring delivery of high quality and impactful research, evaluation and intervention development/implementation and supervising/overseeing the work of placement students/interns

• Developing and delivering resources and training to improve the ability of staff across PIC to conduct research, evaluation and intervention design.
  

What skills are you looking for?

• Willingness to work flexibly and adaptably in response to evolving strategic priorities and changes in the external environment

• Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field, e.g., psychology/ behavioural science/implementation science/ health service research

• Specialist knowledge and extensive experience of research and evaluation methods and analysis (quantitative and qualitative), and how to design behaviour change interventions

• Ability to lead on a defined area of work and deliver through others

• Excellent project management skills; able to oversee the timely delivery of a range of large-scale, complex projects whilst managing competing priorities

• Excellent interpersonal skills and team working, building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders including at a senior level

• Developing and delivering authoritative and engaging communications, extracting relevant information and flexing communication style for each audience

• Ability to influence and negotiate with internal stakeholders and external suppliers (for example market research agencies).

An experienced digital professional, you will have worked for a charity before in a similar role. You will be motivated by delivering high quality digital products and will be familiar with a range of digital channels and platforms. Role outline: Managing the deployment and maintenance of Repowering’s low-carbon infrastructure, leading the Community Retrofit team 

Contract: Full-time role with probation period of 3 months.

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated person with experience of low carbon retrofit, asset management, and business development to join Repowering London’s growing team. You will be a core part of our mission to tackle climate change and move towards a more inclusive and sustainable future. 

This will be a high-profile role within the executive team of a nationally significant social enterprise that is at the leading edge of urban community energy, with significant ambitions for scale and impact. You will work alongside the Executive Team with shared responsibility for setting and realising the organisation’s goals, strategic priorities, and business plan. 

Community Retrofit is a place-based approach to decarbonisation and community development, that creates low-carbon infrastructure, which is technically integrated at a local level, and provides direct benefits to local communities, for example through community ownership, affordable energy supply, or high-quality jobs.

You will be responsible for leading the Community Retrofit team. The team currently encompasses seven staff working across domestic and non-domestic:

• Rooftop solar installations

• Communal heat networks 

• Retrofit assessment and coordination 

• Data collection and analysis 

• Asset management 

Rooftop solar is the most established asset type deployed by Repowering, with installations dating to 2013. Retrofit assessment and coordination services started in 2023, and communal heat network investments are expected in 2025.

You will be responsible for ensuring high quality installations of low carbon assets that perform as forecast.

You will lead the development of improvements to our processes for evaluating potential sites and deploying and maintaining low carbon assets and retrofit measures. 

The role will require ongoing refinement of Repowering’s community retrofit offer to community groups, building owners and public bodies such as Local Authorities, and support the growth of long-term partnerships with our stakeholders, including supply chain partners.

In particular, working with the Repowering executive team you will support the incubation of a suite of a finance offers that allow a wider range of households, businesses and communities to participate in community retrofit. 

You will also support Repowering’s work to increase employment opportunities for young people in the low carbon sector, through how we structure our procurement for installations and by the training programmes we run in-house and with partners.

The Community Retrofit Team is one of Repowering’s four key teams, which include Communities, Energy Supply, and Core Operations. Each of these teams supports the work of the others and ongoing coordination and communication will be an important part of the role to maximise the opportunities for learning and innovation across the organisation.

Person specification

The right candidate will have a high level of technical due diligence, project management and business development experience, with a track record in leading successful teams. This is particularly important as Repowering London is in a growth phase and is expected to expand significantly in the coming years. You will be comfortable working collaboratively and managing a number of staff and external contractors, as well as building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.

As this role is at the most senior level of the organisation, it provides an opportunity to shape business development and long-term strategy. Experience of commercial service delivery will be key to creating a sustainable platform for Community Retrofit.

For this role, we will be looking for and assessing candidates on the following:

• Exceptional leadership skills to lead a growing team and manage a portfolio of projects

• Experience of asset deployment and maintenance in the construction, retrofit or renewable energy sectors

• Track record of developing and growing a commercial service or product

• Formal training in engineering, architecture or quantity surveying

• Experience of managing multi-partner projects, that may include academia, technical experts, contractors and local government

• Analytical skills to interpret data and financial models

• Excellent written and oral communications skills and confidence in presenting to a wide range of audiences

• Interest in community retrofit as a concept and strategy

• Capacity to self-reflect on performance, proactively problem-solve and welcome feedback on performance

The following are not essential for the role but would be good to have:

• Experience of publicly funded grant schemes or loan finance

• Experience of energy services and supply contracts

• Experience of customer journey development, using digital platforms

• Understanding of PAS2035 requirements

• Experience of building energy modelling, such as SAP or PHPP

• Accreditation as a retrofit coordinator or assessor

• Familiarity with Notion, MS Project or other collaborative project management tools
