The Trustees of John Wesley’s New Room seek an Executive Director to lead the organisation into the next exciting phase of its development. Our small staff team has undergone significant change in the past year to align with the future needs of the organisation. The Trustees expect this to continue in support of the newly refreshed strategy which will see a greater role for JWNR nationally and internationally, as well as playing an increasing role in the new Broadmead community following the anticipated redevelopment works in the local area, from retail to a more mixed residential and leisure offering. Having finalised a vision, we are looking for someone to lead the organisation through this change, laying a solid foundation on a practical and cultural level to then build upon for the future, creating more links with local communities as well as the wider Methodist church.
John Wesley’s New Room is the oldest Methodist building in the world (Grade I listed) and is a small but busy place where no two days are the same. Offering a chapel, museum and cafe by day, we also have meetings rooms and event spaces for hire, and welcome visitors both local and international on a regular basis. An important piece of Bristol’s history, the New Room is where Methodism started and the museum and collection tell the story of John Wesley. In addition, we manage a second museum Charles Wesley’s House, a short walk from the main site, which is mainly used for tour groups.

Reporting to: Community & Challenge Events Manager

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious fundraiser with a track-record in income generation. This role forms an integral part of the Community & Challenge team, a small team that works with supporters including individuals, local businesses, schools, our beneficiaries, and community groups.
Job purpose
- To develop community fundraising activity and campaigns to support Willow’s strategic income goals.
- To work across Community and Challenge Events to deliver agreed financial and non-financial targets.

Main duties/responsibilities
- To support and deliver the Community Fundraising strategy within agreed budgets to achieve financial and non-financial targets.
- To raise awareness of our work and to inspire support through the following activities:
- To steward our network of fundraising supporters to maintain engagement and build loyalty, by providing a highly personalised approach to supporting Willow’s fundraisers ensuring our supporters receive a positive experience throughout their fundraising activity, including sending thank you communications and ongoing stewardship. 25%
- To develop proactive relationships with various organisations within the community setting, including, schools, societies, community groups and companies. 25%
- To deliver presentations to a variety of community audiences. 5%
- To organise and deliver a calendar of fundraising activity that creates opportunities for supporters to help Willow. Ensure participation and income targets are achieved. 10%
- To develop the charity’s social media fundraising activity in collaboration with the wider team.10%
- Collaborate closely with the Communications Team, to help plan and develop multi-channel campaigns including on and offline activity that inspire and engage people. 5%

- Updating the charity’s database, Raisers Edge (RE) recording all donor contact and fundraising activity.

- To prepare end of campaign reports to improve results for future campaigns and capture learnings.
- To prepare regular income reports and updates as required.
- To keep up- to- date and comply with the rules as set by the Fundraising Regulator, GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and other relevant legislation and codes of practice and good practice.

The Clink Charity, founded in 2009, aims to prevent and reduce reoffending through training, rehabilitation, and support. We deliver hospitality and horticulture training behind the prison walls and in the community by creating an environment where our students are supported to gain the skills, confidence and qualifications they need to rebuild their lives.
Since that time, we have trained approximately 5,000 people in prison and delivered 2,600 City & Guilds qualifications in a variety of hospitality and food courses.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Our Head of Training and Impact is a vital and high-profile role within the organisation, responsible for overseeing the implementation of all training projects at The Clink Charity across our portfolio, both in prisons and out in the community, evaluating the outcomes and impact of our work for our beneficiaries.
This is a broad and varied role allowing the incumbent to work across catering, hospitality and horticulture training projects, delivering nationally accredited and high calibre City & Guilds qualifications to vulnerable learners.
Having oversight of the projects, and working closely with our team of expert project leads in our restaurant, bakery, gardens and in our youth café of South London, this role offers the opportunity to develop exceptional training programs, rigorous quality assurance processes, and reflective practice in evaluation work.
As we scale our youth projects to a second site in Guildford, this role also comes with the wonderful opportunity of mobilising a brand new project to meet the needs of a NEET community of 16–25 year olds in a café based at Guildford County Court.
The Head of Training and Skills will onboard referral partners, design the delivery program and impact framework, and work alongside a skilled support team to ensure the success of the site, with a view to opening more of these projects in 2027.

A LITTLE ABOUT YOU

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and line management
- Work with the CEO, ELT and Board to achieve The Clink’s mission, vision and strategic objectives.
- Lead the design and implementation of a skills and training strategy which delivers the agreed vision and goals, and to communicate its effectiveness to project leads via KPIs, targets, and regular briefings.
- Lead the design and implementation of effective and robust systems and processes for the operational delivery of training programmes in achieving required delivery outputs.
- Lead on the embedding and implementation of an effective Quality Assurance programme for all project delivery across the Charity.
- Provide line management support for the programme leads in the Restaurant, Bakery, Gardens and Café, providing wider leadership to the staff team on all matters connected to delivering training and measuring the outcomes and impact of our work.
- Line manage the Data and Compliance Manager and support him with preparation of data driven insights informing strategic decisions.
- Conduct 1:1s with your direct reports, manage appraisals and oversee performance management processes.
- Ensure the learning and development needs of all delivery staff are met.
Project delivery
- Oversee all project delivery work at The Clink Charity, ensuring consistent, quality delivery and effective monitoring, evaluation and reporting of all projects.
- Manage the recruitment, training and development of our training staff continuously reflecting on improvements to the roles that can more effectively achieve project outcomes.
- Own the design and implementation of our work based on insight and learnings, lead on reviewing existing services and assessing new services or approaches.
- Make operational delivery decisions to ensure quality projects and provision – oversight of logistics, staffing, and resource management.
- Provide cover and support for staff delivering projects across our portfolio as/when needed.

Qualifications, assessing and verification
- Act as the lead link to City & Guilds for the delivery of the charity’s training courses across all projects ensuring that the content of the training programmes enables learners to achieve their qualifications and meet the high standards of City & Guilds NVQs.
- Work with the project leads on preparing portfolios for hospitality, catering and horticulture projects ready for assessment and verification.
- Oversee all verification of these courses. Act as one of a team of IQA’s for The Clink Charity and facilitate the EQA (External Qualification Assessor) visits, and HMPPS/HMI inspections across all sites.
- Host standardisation meetings with colleagues to build a collaborative training culture.
- Regularly monitor qualification outcomes against targets.
Monitoring, evaluation and insight
- Work with the project team in prisons and in the community to develop measurement and evaluation processes to assess the impact and outcomes of The Clink’s training programme, inform future decisions about programme development, and enable robust reporting to stakeholders.
- Attend quarterly reporting meetings with the MoJ to share the outcomes of our projects, preparing reports for those meetings and working with colleagues at New Futures Network who monitor our work for the MoJ.
- Regularly review impact methodology and implementation to ensure The Clink’s impact is measured and demonstrated in the most effective way, showing the full impact of our programmes.
- Develop efficiencies in collecting and analysing data.
- Be impact-driven and use data and results to ensure the planning and delivery of high-quality programme to drive continuous improvement.
Safeguarding
- Champion safeguarding in all the work that you deliver in and out of prisons, ensuring processes are adhered to and a culture of safeguarding is sustained throughout the organisation.
- Act as a DDSL – Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Approve updates to related policies and procedures annually.
- Ensure all staff working in our projects are appropriately trained in safeguarding practice at The Clink Charity.
New business, income generation and programme development
- Lead on strategic planning for delivery and programme development across all sites, seeking opportunities to grow/scale our impact by exploring new opportunities with our partners.
- Build and develop relationships with all relevant stakeholders, including MoJ and HMPPS colleagues, referral agencies for our community work, and strategic funding partners to increase our reach and deepen our impact on beneficiaries.
- Build and develop The Clink’s network of potential delivery partners including HMPPS, DWP, DfE, local authority, social care, schools, and other third sector organisations who work with us in supporting our beneficiaries.
- Provide expert content surrounding programme delivery and development for funding bids and proposals.
- Support the work of the CEO and Grants Manager in raising funds for the charity, including through attending pitches and meetings with current and prospective funders.
Finance
- With the support of the Director of Finance and Resources, prepare and oversee budgets for project delivery and track spending against forecasts ensuring good fiscal management of projects.
General Duties
- Report on delivery to the Board of Trustees, prepare papers for and attend subcommittee and full board meetings every quarter as requested.
- Carry out other duties as required by The Clink Charity.

PERSON SPECIFICATION – DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
- Experience of leading projects and training and developing a team made up of staff members of differing levels of seniority.
- Experience of working in: social justice, education, youth work, or criminal justice projects, or having worked in hospitality or horticulture before, or having lived experience that reflects the lives of the beneficiaries that we serve.
- Have an IQA qualification or be willing to complete the course to become accredited.
- A track record of excellent project management skills (accuracy, attention to detail, scheduling, problem solving and monitoring) at a national level and have a strong working knowledge of GDPR.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of building relationships with various stakeholders at a senior level.
- Experience of contributing to the development of overall strategy as part of a senior management team, and ability to translate this into operational strategy and plans that help deliver the organisation’s vision and mission.
- Knowledge of implementing quality assurance systems and the ability to objectively assess the performance of partners and colleagues against an agreed competency matrix.
- Knowledge of report writing and extrapolating data to inform decisions.
- An understanding of the catering, hospitality or horticulture courses (NVQs) provided by City & Guilds.
- Proven experience and working knowledge of safeguarding principles and practices and investigation / reporting protocols.
- Proficient IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office programmes.
- Can work flexible hours when necessary and is willing to travel between our South East projects.

About the role:
At the Motability Foundation we fund, support, research and innovate so that all disabled people can make the journeys they choose. We oversee the Motability Scheme and provide grants to help people use it, providing access to transport to hundreds of thousands of people a year. We award grants to other charities and organisations who provide different types of transport, or work towards making transport accessible. We also carry out ongoing research, in partnership with disabled people and key stakeholders in the industry, to inspire innovations that continue to champion accessible transport for all.
As Insight Officer, you’ll support the day-to-day delivery of insight and evidence across the Insight Team, helping to ensure that research outputs are timely, accessible and well used across the organisation.
What you will be doing:
Working closely with your colleagues in the Insight Team, you’ll contribute to research delivery, rapid evidence reviews and executive-style insight summaries. You’ll also support the coordination of research activity and help maintain shared evidence resources that underpin organisational learning and decision-making.
Key responsibilities will include:
· Producing clear and concise insight summaries and rapid evidence reviews to support policy, strategy and operational decision-making
· Analysing primary qualitative and quantitative research data (e.g. survey datasets, interviews and focus groups), under the guidance of Research Managers
· Accurately summarising research findings, identifying key themes and patterns, and drafting structured outputs for review
· Supporting the delivery of research projects across the Insight Team, including contributing to research tools, data collection and reporting
· Acting as a first point of contact for routine research queries and supporting the quality assurance of small-scale research activity
· Supporting the coordination and organisation of research activity across the Insight team, including maintaining process maps and research pipeline summaries, tracking outputs and maintaining documentation.
· Supporting research delivery across a portfolio of projects, including potential to support small to medium sized ad hoc research commissions
· Contributing to the development and upkeep of reference and evidence summaries
· Representing the Insight Team in cross-organisational working groups or projects where insight input is required
· Supporting good research practice by helping ensure outputs meet agreed quality, accessibility and ethical standards
This role offers a strong foundation in applied research and insight, with exposure across multiple projects and policy areas.
Your experience:
You are organised, curious and motivated by evidence. You enjoy working with data, both qualitative and quantitative and take pride in presenting findings clearly and accurately. You enjoy making sense of information and helping others use insight well, and you are also comfortable working across multiple priorities with support from more senior colleagues. You are detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture, and you take pride in producing clear, reliable outputs.

Requirements
We’re open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, including those early in their insight or research career who are keen to develop their skills.
Must haves:
- Experience working collaboratively with others to deliver shared outputs
- Experience supporting research, insight or analysis work in a professional, academic or applied setting
- Experience working with quantitative datasets using standard analysis tools (e.g. Excel or similar)
- Experience analysing qualitative and/or quantitative primary data (e.g. from survey datasets, interviews, focus groups)
- Experience identifying themes and patterns in qualitative data
- Ability to interpret findings accurately and translate them into clear written insight
- Experience producing concise, executive-style insight summaries distilling complex findings into key messages
- Understanding of basic research methods and principles, including sampling, bias and data quality
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Confidence using standard office software to produce reports and manage information
Nice to haves:
- Experience producing rapid evidence reviews
- Experience supporting small research projects or ad hoc commissions
- Experience in disability, transport, social policy or public service research
- Experience organising or maintaining shared knowledge or reference resources
- Familiarity with qualitative analysis software (e.g. MAXQDA, NVivo or similar)
- Experience using statistical or survey tools (e.g. SPSS, R, Power BI, or equivalent)
- Experience creating simple and effective data visualisations to support insight summaries. This may include familiarity with Canva, Adobe, or other equivalent software packages.
