Across the UK, our 60+ local branches help disabled people live the lives they choose. Our network of skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests each year to design and make customised equipment free of charge.

Our Engineer/Maker volunteers are at the very heart of what our local branches do. They use their practical skills and creativity to help people with disabilities live fuller and more independent lives.

What the role involves

This is a varied role where local need shapes what you’ll be working on, but it often includes:

• Designing and making pieces of equipment for individuals with specific needs

• Using your practical skills working with metal, wood, plastic, or electronics (or a combination of them)

• Attending a monthly meeting of the local branch.

We can support you to develop the skills you need for this role, and there’s an induction that covers all the areas above. You’ll also have chance to discuss your role and any additional needs with us.

What you’ll need for this role

Essential

• Practical experience in working with one of the above materials

• Comfortable working with people, listening to them and understanding their needs

• Able to apply our risk management system

• Able to apply disability, equality, and inclusion practices

• Able to keep people’s personal details safe

• Willing to follow Remap policies and procedures – and a commitment to our values

Desirable

• Access to your own tools and workshop (or can access theses)

• Able to drive or have good transport links

You’ll also need to complete the induction checklist and some online training, as well as a DBS check.

RollaDome All Skate is looking for a Volunteer Social Media Manager to help us raise awareness and engage our online community. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about social media and interested in contributing to a charity focused on empowering young people through roller skating. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Assist in creating and posting content on social media platforms. 

• Respond to comments and direct messages from followers. 

• Help manage social media advertising campaigns. 

• Track social media engagement and provide feedback to the team. 

• Support the development of social media strategies. 

Skills & Qualifications 

• Basic understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn). 

• Strong written communication and content creation skills. 

• Interest in supporting youth development and roller sports. 

• Ability to work independently and manage your time. 

Commitment 

• Minimum 15 hours per week, with flexibility in scheduling.

• Fulfil the legal duties of the trustee role. 
• Define the strategic direction and agree on business and financial plans.

Commitment

Trustees serve an initial three-year term (extendable up to nine years) and attend four in-person board meetings annually in Bath or Bristol. Meetings start at 4 PM and last around four hours. Trustees also join at least one committee or the subsidiary board, with four online meetings per year (5:30 PM start, 2.5 hours). Additionally, there is one full strategy day each year.

What we are looking for:

We are seeking a dedicated individual with exceptional communication skills to champion our cause. The ideal candidate will possess strong listening abilities, be receptive to feedback, and appreciate diverse perspectives.

Creativity is essential—you should think innovatively, bring fresh ideas, and be willing to challenge the status quo. If you are a natural influencer with a passion for making a meaningful impact, we would love to hear from you.

In addition, we are looking for individuals who can bring at least one of the following specialisms to the board:

• Deep understanding of charity fundraising, most likely from having held senior leadership fundraising positions in charities. 
• Deep understanding of charity retail, most likely from having held senior leadership retail positions in charities. 
• Strong networks and relationships with donors, sponsors, and partners, with the potential to leverage connections to benefit Julian House. 
• Direct lived experience of the types of services that Julian House provides. 

Please note, that board experience is not a requirement, the selected candidate will be assigned a ‘buddy’ on the Board and will be fully inducted into the trustee role.

Retail Assistant – CURRENTLY RECRUITING

Location: One Hop Shop, Main Street, Douglas, ML11 0QG

Skills required:

• Must be 14+ and able to get to the shop
• Interested in animal welfare and be passionate about pets
• Retail experience is a bonus but not essential
• Must be comfortable around dogs as the shop is dog friendly (if you have a dog, there is also the ability to bring them to volunteer with you and they will be able to relax in the back room)

Role involves:

• Working with a volunteer buddy at the shop
• Helping on the shop floor talking to customers and engaging with dogs
• Restocking shelves, making up stock and recanting products into storage bins
• Keeping the shop tidy, organised and doing stock take
• Picking products, making and packing online orders
• Making enrichment toys

Time commitment:

• One 6 hour shift per month
• The shop is open Fridays (10-2), Saturdays (11-5), Sundays (11-5), Mondays (10-2)

Could you help to change a care-experienced child's life by reading with them for just an hour a week over a six month period?

We're looking for new volunteers to read online. Reading Heroes is a highly individualised initiative - every book that you read has been chosen specifically for you and the child.  All books are provided, and you will receive ongoing personal support from our dedicated Reading Heroes team, as well as opportunities to meet with other volunteers.

The number of care-experienced children in the UK growing; research tells us that these children are more likely to experience social, emotional and mental health problems, so we believe that Reading Heroes is a more important project than ever.

We have found that the Reading Heroes scheme has helped the children involved with their reading and other literacy-based skills, but these are not our primary purposes. Reading Heroes simply promotes reading for pleasure, and giving some of our time to children who need a little extra support - along with a kindly, friendly listener!

As a Reading Heroes volunteer, you’ll be instilling a love of stories which can have a lifelong positive impact. 80% of participants tell us they enjoy reading more after taking part.
