About the role
While financial matters are the responsibility of all trustees, the Treasurer is instrumental in guiding the CEO and the Board with advice, guidance and reassurance on all aspects of the charity’s financial management and reporting and controls.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with relevant expertise and experience to join our Board of Trustees, initially as an Ordinary Trustee, but with the aim of taking over the Treasurer role upon completion of induction and handover
You will form part of our Board of Trustees, accountable in the UK with the following responsibilities:
1. Ensure the charity complies with charity law and does not breach any requirements or rules set out in our governing documents.
2. Provide strategic oversight and input into the running of the organisation.
3. Contribute towards securing a sustainable funding base for the charity.
4. Oversee and present budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board,
advising on specific issues during the annual audit process.
5. Lead in the Board’s duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled and spent, and adequate reserves are maintained.
6. Oversee the design of financial controls and adherence to systems; leading the financial risk‐management process.
7. Act as a signatory on Able Child’s bank accounts.
8. Actively participate in and steer the Resources Sub-Committee of the Board
About You
You will live the values of Able Child, keeping the best interests of our staff and beneficiaries at the heart of decision making. You will have the capability to support our Strategic Plan, working closely with the CEO to ensure the organisation remains well governed and at the forefront of our sector.
As Treasurer, you will have background knowledge and understanding of the voluntary sector and the specific charity finance, including but not limited to, accounting for restricted and unrestricted funding, full cost recovery from grants and managing foreign exchange. We are especially interested in hearing from women for this role, although applications from all qualified candidates are welcomed
Experience
1. A recognised professional qualification (e.g. CIMA, ACA, ACCA or CIPFA) with demonstrable post qualification experience (greater than 5 years) and a thorough practical understanding of management accounting principles and techniques.
2. Experience of working within a charity finance function (desirable).
3. Previous (or current) experience as a trustee (not essential).

4. Proven ability to make and act on strategic and critical decisions.
5. Some knowledge of charity governance, administration and regulations.

The Role
To support the Information and Advice Team in delivering free, confidential and independent information and advice services within community settings across Plymouth.
The Information and Advice Community Volunteer will assist Information and Advice Community Caseworkers in delivering outreach information and advice services to people aged 50+ across Plymouth, with a focus on reaching individuals who may face barriers to accessing support due to deprivation, social isolation, poor transport links, health inequalities or digital exclusion.
The role is community-based and involves assisting Information and Advice Community Caseworkers in the delivery of outreach information and advice services within community venues across Plymouth.
Main Duties
· Assist Information and Advice Community Caseworkers in the delivery of community outreach information and advice sessions across Plymouth.
· Welcome and assist individuals attending outreach sessions, helping to create a friendly, inclusive and supportive environment.
· Support Information and Advice Community Caseworkers with client registration, appointment booking, administration and session set-up as required.
· Provide basic information about Age UK Plymouth services and assist individuals to access appropriate support.
· Identify individuals who may benefit from further information and advice support and refer them to an Information and Advice Community Caseworker.
· Assist with the distribution of information materials, leaflets and promotional resources.
· Support Information and Advice Community Caseworkers to engage with older people who may be isolated or experience barriers to accessing services.
· Record basic information and service user feedback as required.
· Promote awareness of Age UK Plymouth services within local communities.

Every year our fantastic HR Advice Line volunteers speak to hundreds women and parents experiencing challenges or pregnancy and maternity discrimination at work. The Advice Line provides hours of free support and HR advice every week, however the demand for the service is high and we know that getting through can be difficult. That’s why we’re trialling a new online Advice Forum to help improve access to support and flexibility of our volunteer roles. But before we can make the forum public, we need to bring in a team of volunteers who are ready and waiting to answer questions.
We are looking for knowledgable HR professionals who want to tackle the Motherhood Penaltyand support mothers and parents by becoming an Advice Forum Volunteer.
As a volunteer advisor you’ll give an hour a week of your time to respond to questions on the Advice Forum. You’ll use your HR knowledge and experience to respond to posts and give advice that can help people identify and challenge pregnancy and maternity discrimination in the workplace. You’ll also be joining us at the start of this brand new service and will have an essential role in helping us monitor, evaluate and learn from the forum trial, with the goal of establishing it as a permanent PTS Support Service.

• Access to a reliable and secure WIFI or Internet connection and a mobile device or computer/laptop.
• Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
• Comfortable using online communication tools.
• Commitment to completing all required volunteer training.

What do Welfare Benefits Volunteers do?
Help older people boost their income by becoming a Welfare Benefits Volunteer.
Many older people face financial difficulties because they are not claiming all the welfare benefits they are entitled to. At Age UK Buckinghamshire, we support older people to access the benefits they deserve by offering personalised advice and practical help.
Our trained volunteer advisors visit people in their own homes to guide them through the claims process, completing benefit forms on their behalf and ensuring applications reflect their individual circumstances.
Following full training, you will be matched with clients for one-off home visits, usually lasting one to two hours. Along the way, there’s often time for a friendly chat, and perhaps a cup of tea, while making a real difference to someone’s quality of life.
What skills does a Welfare Benefits Advisor need?
What training do we provide?
Successful applicants complete 2 training sessions covering the needs of older people and welfare benefits. At the end of this initial training, you will be “buddied” with one or more experienced volunteers, first as an observer and later as an advisor until you have the knowledge and confidence to undertake one-to-one visits.
How much time do we expect you to give?
Once trained, you can commit to as many or as few visits per week as you wish. Each visit takes, on average, about 1 – 2 hours. There are quarterly meetings that provide support and additional training days from time to time to keep up with new legislation.
