Job description

Tyne Amateur Rowing Club is seeking a director acting in a voluntary capacity to bring senior level hospitality experience and insight to support the development of the Café-Bar & Function space at the clubhouse in Newburn, Newcastle.

Tyne 1852 Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of the registered charity) exists to provide high-quality hospitality and managed facilities for Tyne Amateur Rowing Club members, generating sustainable surpluses that are reinvested, to support TARC’s running costs, improve club facilities, and contribute to capital purchases. “Encourage the generation of commercial revenue at the club” is a key strategic aim for the charity and as such has planned to increase bar sales by 10% and reduce costs by 6% over the next 4 years. Current turnover is around £300k per annum.

The bar operations are overseen by a full-time Club Manager, managed by a full-time Bar & Catering Manager, and supported by a part-time kitchen supervisor, alongside several bar & kitchen team members.

The Club has a thriving membership, is open to the public and is well supported by the local community. The bar has had significant capital investment since 2020 with the addition of a movable partition wall to support its multifunctional use. A new commercial kitchen has recently been installed, opening up more catering opportunities for the business

The profits from Tyne 1852 are gifted to the Club in pursuance of it’s charitable objectives.

If you are interested in this exciting opportunity to support the local community & sport in the North East in this unremunerated position then please send a copy of your CV along with a covering letter by 07/03/2026.

If you would like to have an informal discussion, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss the role in more detail. Please contact David Squirrell, the Club Manager
