Over the past two years, RDA has gone from strength to strength under the fantastic leadership of CEO Michael Bishop and Chair Helena Vega Lozano. We are now looking for 2 new trustees who will have a brilliant opportunity to help shape the long-term future of a truly impactful organisation.

Riding for the Disabled Association is the only major UK charity specifically dedicated to the therapeutic and life-changing benefits of bringing people and horses together. Each year, we enrich the lives of over 39,000 disabled children and adults through riding, carriage driving and a growing range of equine-assisted programmes.

THE PERSON - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Job Title: Trustee (x2 roles)

Location: Lowlands Equestrian Centre, Old Warwick Road, Shrewley, Warwickshire CV35 7AX

Salary:  Trustee positions at RDA are voluntary. Agree expenses are reimbursed, 

Term of Office: 3 year term, renewable for up to three terms. 

Trustee - Finance 

The role is aimed at a qualified accountant with experience in charity accounting and finance, who brings financial acumen and strategic insight to long term financial planning. Working with our Treasurer and the wider Board, you will bring understanding of charity finance and help ensure RDA's financial resilience and sustainability as the Charity continues to evolve and grow. 

Trustee

This role will represent the grassroots of RDA. We are looking for someone who is experienced in running an RDA Group at committee or board level over a sustained period with a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing local groups and the regional networks. You will bring invaluable operational insight and help ensure the experiences and needs of member groups continue to inform strategic decision making at a national level. You will help the Board remain closely connected to the needs of the member groups while supporting the development of sustainable and effective national initiatives. 

Candidates should:

• Demonstrate a strong commitment to RDA, its mission and values
• Bring sound judgement, strategic insight, and the ability to contribute effectively to Board discussions and decision making.
• Demonstrate strong relationship building and ambassadorial skills
• Be able to listen, engage constructively and work collaboratively as part of a team
• Understand, or be willing to develop an understanding of, charity governance and the legal responsibilities of Trustees
• Be willing to devote the necessary time and effort to fulfil the role effectively

Skills and Experience

We are specifically seeking candidates with experience in one of the following areas:

• Finance, strategic financial planning and charity finance, or
• Significant experience within an RDA Group at committee or board level and the wider federation

In addition candidates may also bring expertise in areas such as:

• Disability and inclusion
• Governance, organisational development or strategic transformation

Time Commitment

• Four Board meetings a year
• Trustees will also serve on at least one Board Committee
• Trustees are expected to attend key RDA events and visit member groups to remain connected to the organisation's work and impact
• The role is expected to require approximately two days per month

As a Swim Buddy you will be joining the people we support in the water, helping them have fun and encouraging them to swim and play in the pool.

One of our Support Workers will always be there for guidance and they will be responsible for the personal care of your buddy, but they may stay on the side during the time you're in the water.

• To be kind, empathetic and friendly.

• To have a good sense of humour and be enthusiastic.

• To be reliable and punctual.

The Befriender 'In Home' Volunteer will play an important role by providing companionship to someone we support at our supported living service by spending time with them, visiting them in the home and doing activities they enjoy. Role summary

The use of complementary therapies in palliative care has become an increasingly significant feature of health care and evidence shows that therapies can support the emotional, mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing of patients and their families and carers, and those facing loss and bereavement. This role will give you the unique opportunity to use your incredible skills, qualities, and knowledge to gain experience in specialised healthcare for end of life and bereavement. This will enable you to build confidence and ability to provide care and wellbeing in an integrated hospice environment. Research has shown that its use alongside conventional medicine can help enhance relaxation and well-being, and relieve stress and anxiety, as well as help with the management of specific issues such as symptom control of fatigue, breathlessness, nausea, and pain.

An enhanced adult & child DBS check is required for this role. 

Main duties of the role

• Provide therapies in accordance with the complementary therapy policy and procedure, as well as the code of ethics and practice.

• Assess and plan patients’ treatment and documentation of given treatment and patient response.

• Report any concerns you may have about a patient’s/client’s health or welfare (or anything the patient may have said that is of concern) to the IPU team or CT team lead

• Uphold the confidentiality guidance in all matters relating to the patient or their family.

• Be generally aware of patients’ needs and always ensure the dignity of the patients.

• Maintain good infection control practices at all times

• Prepare the complementary therapy treatment areas before and after a treatment

• Adhere to the dress code requirements.

• Seek support and advice when needed.

• To adhere to the CT code of conduct and ethics

• Provide feedback, including reports of any adverse effects, to the Complementary Therapy Lead.

• To undertake any other tasks as requested/deemed appropriate with the nature of the role.

• Complete all paperwork and feedback clearly and objectively

• Adhere to relevant and current protocols for the practice of the specific therapy or therapies.

All complementary therapies are characterised by treating the whole person, considering the mental, emotional and physical factors associated with the challenges they face. Complementary therapies work with the total care given, to promote comfort and support for both patients and their families/carers. We also support those who access our bereavement services. 

Training & supervision

We will provide you with practice into palliative and bereavement care by extending the opportunities for you to gain valuable hands-on experience that will affirm your vocational knowledge and skills. Other training includes:

• There will be an induction to the hospice and all volunteers must undertake mandatory health and safety training. In addition, all volunteer complementary therapists have to undergo an enhanced DBS check, undertake safeguarding, accessing personal information (medical record information) and lone working training

• To undertake an induction into the complementary therapy service, this may include shadowing another volunteer therapist, as appropriate.

• To attend meetings/supervision and training in palliative needs. 

Experience & qualifications required

• You will need to be qualified and hold the appropriate certifications in the relevant practice:

o L3+ Aromatherapy

o L3+ Massage therapy

o L3+ Reflexology

o L3+ Holistic therapy

o L2/L3+ Beauty therapy (with facial and massage/aromatherapy units)

o Qualified in the HEARTS PROCESS

o Degree2/3+ Reiki plus one of the above qualifications (not a stand alone Reiki qualification)

o L4+ Shiatsu

• Relevant professional qualifications essential from an accredited awarding body, such as C&G, VTCT, ITEC - which meets recognised UK Occupational Standards.

• Membership of a recognised Complementary Therapy Regulatory Body, e.g. CNHC, FHT, AOR or other voluntary recognised association or organisation, and hold up to date professional insurance, or be prepared to join prior to volunteering

• You must have current work experience and up to date skills which meet relevant competencies, e.g. CPD records and skills development.

• Ability to work independently, and show flexibility by learning the ‘think on your feet’ and not to proceed if unsure and seek clarification

Role Description 

The Board of Directors is opening up the opportunity for new Trustees to join MYH. If you are passionate about making a difference and have the skills, knowledge, or experience to support MYH during an exciting period of growth, we would love to hear from you.

1. Future Chair of Trustees

We are seeking an experienced strategic leader who may be interested in progressing into the role of Chair of Trustees within the next 9–12 months, following a planned leadership transition. Previous Chair, Board, Non-Executive, or senior leadership experience would be highly valuable.

2. Governance and Organisational Oversight 

We are also looking to strengthen Board capability in charity governance, legal and regulatory compliance, safeguarding, risk management, HR oversight, and 

organisational policy development.

As MYH continues through a period of growth and organisational development, these 

appointments will play an important role in supporting the charity’s long-term sustainability, accountability, and impact.

As a Trustee of MYH, you will work collectively with the Board to provide effective governance, strategic direction, and oversight to support the charity’s mission and long-term sustainability. Key responsibilities include: 

• Contributing to the strategic direction and overall governance of the charity 

• Ensuring the charity operates in line with its charitable objectives, governing documents, and legal responsibilities 

• Supporting effective decision-making by providing independent judgement, constructive challenge, and professional insight

As a maintenance (handyman) volunteer at SeeAbility, you will support the facility in maintaining a safe, functional, and pleasant environment for people we support and our teams.

This position requires a reliable, skilled, and proactive individual who can carry out general maintenance tasks and assist with small repairs around the property. Your efforts will directly contribute to the well-being of the people we support and ensure that the home remains a comfortable and secure place for all.

Skills Required 

• Perform general maintenance and minor repairs to the building and facilities, including but not limited to:  carpentry, painting, decorating and repairing

• Assist with the installation of furniture, fixtures, or equipment, ensuring they meet safety standards.

• Ensure that all tools and materials are properly maintained and stored safely.

• Help identify potential maintenance issues before they become problems.

• Report more complex repairs or safety concerns to the Facility Manager or Maintenance Supervisor.

• Support the care home during renovation or redecoration projects.

• Work collaboratively with other volunteers and staff to ensure the upkeep of the home.

• Would not be asked to carry out and electrical or plumping works

• Adhere to health and safety guidelines, ensuring all tasks are completed with care and in compliance with regulations

Admin Volunteer

Hours: 2-5 hours per week, flexible

We are looking for a friendly, organised, and dependable volunteer to support our services in Basingstoke with administration activities for 2-3 hours a week, based in our Abingdon office. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys administration, working with data, and supporting charities.

• General office administration and administrative support
• Supporting the wider team with ad hoc administrative tasks such as shredding, scanning and archiving documents
• Maintaining database records in line with data protection requirements
• Collecting & inputting data 
• Answering the phone and taking phone messages

Skills needed

· Friendly, professional & adaptable to take on all admin tasks

• To be comfortable using Microsoft Office software
• Comfortable working with databases and willing to learn new systems
• Great organisational skills and an eye for detail
• Reliable, trustworthy, and able to maintain confidentiality in line with data protection

The Befriender 'In Home' Volunteer will play an important role by providing companionship to someone we support at our supported living service in Aylesbury, by spending time with them, visiting them in the home and doing activities they enjoy. These might include chatting over shared interests & hobbies, reading books, playing board games or arts & crafts.
