About the role

UK Feminista is looking for people committed to feminism and women’s equality to join our volunteer Board of Directors.

Founded in 2010, UK Feminista is a charitable organisation working for a society free from sexism and violence against women and girls. We campaign for systemic change so that women can enjoy their rights as enshrined in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. We exist to tackle the root causes of sex inequality. Our core programmes are combating commercial sexual exploitation; and tackling sexism and sexual harassment in education. Please read more about our programmes of work on our website.

The role of the Board of Directors is to:  

• Take legal and financial responsibility in order to safeguard the assets and the continuity of UK Feminista.  

• Be satisfied that financial information is accurate and that financial management systems and controls are robust and defensible.  

• Ensure that UK Feminista complies with its Articles of Association, company law and other relevant legislation and regulations.  

• Ensure that the policies and practices of UK Feminista meets the organisation’s needs, are in keeping with its charitable objects and strive to achieve best practise.

• Further the charitable objects of UK Feminista.  

In carrying out the collective responsibilities of the Board, the role of the individual Director is to:  

• Follow UK Feminista’s Code of Conduct at all times.  

• Declare conflicts of interest and exercise confidentiality and independent judgement at all times.  

• Contribute relevant knowledge and expertise to the organisation’s activities at the request of the Director.  

• Be a proactive advocate for UK Feminista.  

• Act as an ambassador to UK Feminista, including building the profile of the organisation; seeking relevant fundraising connections and support; and representing the organisation at meetings and acting as spokesperson when requested by the Director.  

• Contribute to the development of the organisational strategy through providing support, constructive challenge and ideas, in collaboration with the Director.  

About you 

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, and do not require previous board experience. We particularly encourage applications from Black and ethnically minoritised, disabled and neurodivergent individuals.   

Person specification:

• Strong commitment to the aims of UK Feminista.  

• Strong understanding of sex inequality and commercial sexual exploitation.  

• An ability to work effectively as part of a team.  

• An ability and willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to complete Board Member duties. 

• An ability to think strategically and exercise good judgement.  

• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of being a Board Member. 

• An understanding of and commitment to upholding the Board’s governance role as distinct from the operational role of staff.  

• Knowledge, skills and experience in a field or practice of relevance to UK Feminista’s activities.  

• A commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.  

We are seeking particular expertise in these areas: 

• Data protection 

• Finance and fundraising – in particular, fundraising areas outside of grants, and strategic partnership development

• Digital, marketing and public relations 

• Experience completing organisational transition to CIO 

Level of commitment 

UK Feminista is a small organisation, so this is a hands-on Board Member role. As well as four 90-minute online board meetings a year and attending an annual in-person Away Day in London, Board Members attend additional adhoc meetings, events and provide organisational support as needed. 

UK Feminista is a non-profit company limited by guarantee. No one on the Board of Directors is personally liable.

As a charity we can continue to help cats and kittens in need thanks to the donations we receive at fundraising events from generous members of the public. Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

The difference you will make to cats and people

 Every penny counts when it comes to improving the lives of the thousands of cats and kittens across the UK that need our help each year. Our collection box fundraising volunteers help our volunteer groups raise vital funds by collecting and distributing collection boxes in their local area. Making a difference can mean as little as raising 20p, which is enough to feed one cat in our care for a day, to £150 which is the average cost of a cat in our care.

Time expectation

Our collection box fundraising volunteers usually spend 1 to 2 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Social Media and Communications Assistant

What You’ll Do

Help promote Age UK Enfield’s work by creating engaging content for social media and supporting our communications. You’ll help us reach more older people, volunteers, and supporters through creative, informative posts and storytelling.

You will:

· Create social media posts using provided content or your own creative ideas

· Take photos or short videos at events

· Assist with newsletters, leaflets, and other communications

· Share insights or analytics to help improve our reach

Skills You’ll Use or Develop

· Creativity and written communication skills

· Basic digital design (e.g., using Canva – training can be provided)

We are recruiting new Trustees to join our Board and help guide the strategic direction, governance, and long-term success of ECI.

Trustees play a vital role in shaping how we deliver our services and ensuring we continue to meet the needs of our communities.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and do not require previous Trustee experience — full support and induction will be provided.

Who we’re looking for

We are particularly interested in people with lived experience or skills in areas such as:

• Using ECI services or similar support services
• Moving to Exeter or building a sense of belonging in a new community
• Being part of a minority group within the community
• Disability access and inclusion
• Child safeguarding and/or adult safeguarding
• Human resources (especially employee relations or employment law)
• Legal services or law

We also welcome anyone with different lived experience, professional skills, or perspectives that could help us improve and develop our services.

What you’ll be doing

As a Trustee, you will:

• Help shape ECI’s strategic direction and priorities
• Contribute to the governance and long-term development of the charity
• Ensure ECI meets legal, regulatory and financial responsibilities
• Champion ECI’s work and its impact in the community
• Use your experience, skills or networks to support and strengthen the organisation

The Board meets every two months, in person and online (usually weekday evenings). Between meetings, you may be asked to support areas linked to your skills or interests.

Commitment

• Around 3–4 hours per month
• Bi-monthly Board meetings
• Flexible involvement outside meetings when needed
• Open to applicants aged 18+

About us: GT Scholars is a social enterprise that tackles educational inequality by giving ambitious young people the support, skills and strategies they need to achieve their aspirations. 

We believe that all young people are gifted and talented, regardless of their background. We run a wide range of programmes that help young people achieve their academic and career aspirations, particularly those from less-privileged backgrounds.

What makes us different? There are many organisations that offer programmes to improve the life chances of young people. However, our programmes use a unique 3:1 model which means that we’re able to sustainably use our profits to provide additional places on our programmes, to young people from low-income homes. 

Our mission is to empower and develop the next generation of leaders and change-makers and we’re looking for workshop facilitators that are passionate about making a difference in young people’s lives!

Responsibilities: Facilitators are responsible for designing creative and interactive workshops for our young people, and delivering these workshops with our young people. We run some of our workshops online and other workshops are held in London. All workshops are held during the school holidays, in the evening and on weekends.

The workshop facilitator role is flexible and as part of your role, you may be involved in:

• Delivering and leading short workshops or courses, on behalf of GT Scholars (Online or offline)

• Designing engaging, interactive and educational workshops and short courses for young people and ensuring that the content is targeted to suit different abilities and capabilities

• Running your own bespoke workshops, eg. workshops in coding and technology

• Managing short activities and Q&A sessions during our workshops

• Working collaboratively with other event coordinators, volunteers, ambassadors, workshop facilitators and speakers at our events

• Following the agreed timings and content for workshops and courses

Person specification: 

As workshop facilitator, you will need to:

• Have passion, knowledge and experience in coding, computing and technology

• Have strong presentation skills

• Have strong communication skills

• Be personable and able to confidently communicate with people from a range of backgrounds and professions.

• Be passionate and committed to tackling educational inequality

• Be punctual and organised

Availability: Workshops will run during the day on school holiday dates, on Saturdays or in the evening (5pm-8pm).

Additional information: We will need to conduct reference checks and you will need an Enhanced DBS for this role as you will be working directly with children. We can process this for you or you may submit one if this is less than 2 years old.

Rate of pay: This is a self-employed role. You must be aged 18 or above. Facilitator sessions range from 2 to 6 hours. The rate of pay will vary based on the budget of the funder.

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

Our fundraising team leaders usually spend three to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.
