Help us digitise RAF Museum’s paper-based collections information, to improve its accessibility, searchability and preservation.

What is the role?

The Collection and Research Team at the RAF Museum Midlands holds a significant number of paper-based records on its objects, ranging from provenance information, details of past conservation treatments, the service histories of specific aircraft, and historical correspondence. The Collections Information Digitisation Volunteer will assist our team to digitise these records. While securely stored, digitising these records will produce many benefits, including making them shareable with external researchers, searchable for the Museum’s own team, and helping to ensure their longer-term preservation.

This role sits within the RAF Museum’s Midlands Development Programme which will transform our museum and our impact on the local community through a series of phased projects – engaging audiences who may not obviously identify with the RAF story by finding common interests and histories which link them. As part of this project, we are planning a new learning centre, outdoor spaces, collections hub and major exhibition.

What will I be doing?

• Scanning object history files and museum forms,

• Administrating scans produced within a set file structure,

• Adapting existing digital documentation to make it shareable externally,

• Developing an understanding of information security and GDPR,

• Developing an understanding of museum sector practices and procedures.

This role is perfect for you if you…

· Have good IT Skills, including the Windows OS, Microsoft Word and Outlook,

· Can lift and carry documents, and operate a scanner,

· Can carry out tasks methodically, with good accuracy attention to detail,

· Have an interest in history and/or heritage.

How much time would I need to commit?

One full day or half day, ideally once a week, between 10.00 and 16.00 at the RAF Museum Midlands.

As a community engagement volunteer you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community to ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.

Below are some examples of possible activities you can take on or be a part of as a SSAFA Community Engagement Volunteer.

What you will be doing

• Activity Organisers - Love planning? Help coordinate amazing events like charity dinners, carol concerts, and local fairs.
• Event Champions - Be the friendly face of SSAFA! Help at events, chat with visitors, sell merchandise, and spread the word about our work.

• Promoting SSAFA Services - Help provide a warm, welcoming presence at Veterans Breakfast clubs, cafes or hubs - offering information about SSAFA services and signposting as appropriate.
• SSAFA Storytellers -Deliver engaging talks to organisations and groups, sharing SSAFA’s incredible history and mission.
• Community Connectors - Collaborating with the Community Engagement Manager to establish a local network, promote SSAFA's services, and respond to community opportunities such as gardening projects.
• Fundraising Heroes - Whether it’s rallying local businesses, organising events, or getting creative with unique fundraising ideas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping SSAFA’s support going strong.
• Administrators - Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.

• Confident to engage with the public, potential clients, volunteers and SSAFA colleagues face-to-face.
• Reliable attitude, staying connected with your Branch and/or Community Engagement Manager about your availability.
• Access to public transport or a car to get to events if necessary.
• Basic IT skills would be an advantage.

The Role - Volunteer Operations Coordinator

Job Purpose:

At Tell My Truth and Shame the Devil C.I.C., our work depends on clarity, coordination and consistency. Operations are not just processes; they are the structure that enables people, programmes and purpose to function effectively. 

The Operations Coordinator ensures that organisational activity is aligned, visible and executed efficiently in line with the organisation’s mission, safeguarding responsibilities and growth.

You will play a key role in connecting teams, workflows and systems ensuring that day-to-day operations are coordinated, accountable and sustainable as the C.I.C grow.

This is not a purely administrative role. It is coordination-driven, systems-focused and central to how the organisation delivers impact behind the scenes.

This role exists to:

• Support the coordination and execution of day-to-day organisational activities 
• Translate organisational priorities into structured, actionable workflows 
• Maintain and improve systems that support operational efficiency and team alignment 
• Monitor progress, identify gaps and ensure timely follow-through across functions

About the role:

To provide operational coordination, execution support and oversight of day-to-day organisational activities ensuring that work is effectively implemented, tracked and aligned with the C.I.C’s mission and safeguarding values.

The Operations Coordinator ensures that work happens effectively, while the Operations Analyst ensures that work happens efficiently. Both roles are complementary: one drives execution, the other drives improvement.

Scope and Boundaries for the Role

To ensure clarity and efficiency:

The Operations Coordinator WILL:

• Coordinate and track day-to-day operational activities

The Operations Coordinator WILL NOT:

• Make unilateral strategic or policy decisions 
• Replace Team Leads or assume ownership of departmental outputs 
• Independently enforce performance or manage staff 
• Take on purely analytical or reporting-focused responsibilities 

Working Relationship

The Operations Coordinator will:

• Report to the Director of Central Operations & Executive Coordination 
• Work closely with the Operations Analyst, Team Leads and support functions 
• Enable execution while supporting leadership direction 
• Act as a central coordination link across all teams

We’re looking for admin volunteers to help with our daily operations.  We have a variety of ways you can get involved:

• Responding to client requests and enquiries
• Fundrasing and partnership management
• Managing and updating company databases
• Keeping track of partnership enquiries
• Maintaining internal, volunteer, and client records
• Drafting and mailing client correspondence and newsletters
• Organising events, scheduling meetings, and making travel arrangements
• Providing administrative support to other departments or projects as needed
• Performing other duties as agreed in advance

We’ve designed our volunteering programme to be flexible and adaptive to you.  All volunteering is 100% remote and you’re supported fully by our team.  You control what you do and how many hours per week you want to volunteer.  Some roles may require an Enhanced DBS check. If your application is successful, we will ask for a donation towards the cost of your enhanced DBS check if it's required for your role. This cost is £22.60.

How much time can you give?

A minimum of 2 hours per week is required. We are flexible and like to work around you.

Training

We provide accredited training with 3 short courses needing to be completed prior starting your volunteer role.  After, you’ll have access to over 90 accredited courses should you want to study further.
