Role summary

Community Bereavement Cafés are welcoming and open spaces for people to talk about their grief.  Facilitators help run and facilitate the cafes.

A standard DBS check will be required for this role.

Main duties of this role may include any of the following:

· Help prepare the venue for the café set up – positioning chairs, preparing refreshments, making the seating welcoming and conducive to a positive experience.

· Welcome people as they arrive.

· Provide name labels to ensure people are known by name.

· Identify newcomers and assist them to settle in – making introductions and offering a helping hand to begin with. Being sure to withdraw yourself from the group when it feels right to allow peer support to take over and blossom.

· Offer and make drinks, clear cups etc.

· Facilitate a session in the Cafe after receiving bereavement training.

· Give notice before the café is due to end so that people can draw their conversations to a close.

· Occasionally, at the end, distribute feedback forms to participants to complete anonymously.

· When everyone has left, put the room back to how it was before the café started.

· Escalate any concerns or worries about attendees to the Cafe lead.

·Uphold strict confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries at all times.

Training & supervision

· Training provided in understanding grief and bereavement, communication and active listening skills, facilitating group spaces, safeguarding, boundaries, referral pathways, cafe operations and practical logistics.

· Monthly supervision/support.

· Ongoing training as required.

Experience & qualifications required

· Having excellent communication and listening skills.

· Ability to join in conversation and contribute appropriately.

· Happy chatting in a group or individually.

· Allowing others to speak and give them space to do that.

· Being comfortable discussing bereavement, death, dying and loss.

· Ability to judge the correct moment to leave a conversation, and have the confidence and skills to do that.

Fine Cell Work (FCW) is a UK-based rehabilitation charity and social enterprise. We are supported by an incredible team of prison volunteers who are the link between the charity and the stitchers we work with in prison. Our volunteers run fortnightly stitching groups in the prisons we work with to facilitate our stitchers’ production of high-quality needlework.

Our prison volunteers work in small teams to teach our stitchers’ embroidery and needlepoint, organise their group sessions, and liaise with the prison and FCW office.

What you will do as a prison volunteer:

• Teach people in prison how to stitch and support the completion of our premade kits in our cell groups, which consist of around 10-15 stitchers.
• Communicate with staff at our hub in Battersea to receive kits and supplies for your group and send back completed work for your stitchers to be paid.
• Develop stitchers’ skills and confidence by encouraging them to take responsibility as peer mentors.
• Act as an ambassador for the charity and sharing our vision and values throughout your volunteering.

Who we are looking for:

• Skills in embroidery and/or needlepoint or a willingness to learn to stitch is essential for this role.
• Ideally some teaching experience or experience working with socially-excluded groups.
• Someone with a non-judgemental attitude and commitment to rehabilitation.
• Someone who is an excellent team worker.
• Someone who is good at observing personal boundaries.

Commitment: our stitching groups run for 2 hours every fortnight, so with travel time and some admin work after groups we ask prison volunteers to set aside a morning or afternoon every 2 weeks.

You must be over 18 for this role with the ability to travel to the prison. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by the charity.

 Purpose of the Role

We are looking for a volunteer, preferably with corporate fundraising experience to research the corporate giving landscape and the interests of potential doners. As a Corporate Fundraising Volunteer for unpaid carers, you will play a key part in helping Carers Trust Hillingdon & Ealing secure funding that enables us to continue and expand our vital services for unpaid carers across the borough.

Your support will directly contribute to improving the quality of life for carers by enabling new services, resources, and opportunities. This role is ideal for someone with good communication and organisational skills who enjoys building connections and making a tangible difference in the community.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Identify potential corporate doners and partners whose corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals align with our mission and values.

• Approach local and national businesses over the telephone to inform them of the work of Carers Trust Hillingdon & Ealing

• Keep accurate records of all approaches and outcomes.

• Attend and help organise fundraising events that support our mission.

Kingston Sea Cadets – TS Steadfast, part of London Western District, is looking for enthusiastic and committed Adult Volunteers to join our growing team.

Our volunteers play an important role in providing young people with opportunities to learn new skills, develop confidence, build leadership abilities and experience life beyond the classroom.

CYP Volunteer Counsellor (Term‑Time Only)

Placement Days: Monday, Wednesday or Friday Setting: Secondary School, ages 11–18

Shirley High School is seeking trainee counsellors to join our established counselling service and support the wellbeing of young people within our vibrant, multicultural community. This is an excellent opportunity for trainees looking to gain clinical experience with children and adolescents in a supportive school environment.

Who We’re Looking For

• Trainee counsellors studying at Diploma level or above, already qualified to Level 3 (or equivalent).
• Training must be recognised by the BACP or equivalent professional body.
• Able to provide a current fit‑to‑practise certificate.
• The course includes personal therapy as part of training.
• Understanding of the BACP Ethical Framework and good practice for working with young people.
• Some experience with children or young people (not necessarily counselling).
• Commitment to inclusive, culturally sensitive practice.

Placement Requirements

• Maintain professional membership (BACP or equivalent).
• Hold professional indemnity insurance.
• Adhere to school safeguarding, confidentiality and child protection policies.
• Willing to complete an enhanced DBS.
• Attend fortnightly group clinical supervision (term‑time only), provided by the school (Mondays 16.30-18.00 online).

What the Role Involves

• Holding a caseload of 2–3 students per week, offering 45‑minute sessions.
• Providing short‑term or longer‑term counselling depending on need.
• Keeping accurate, confidential records.
• Working collaboratively with the lead counsellor, clinical supervisor and school safeguarding team.
• Identifying when students may need referral to specialist services.
• Treating all students with dignity, respect and sensitivity.

Commitment

• Minimum three counselling hours per week.
• Ideally a full academic year, or at least two terms.
• No work required during school holidays.
