Undeb Bangor is the Students' Union at Bangor University and an independent registered charity, representing more than 9,000 students. Led by students, for students, the organisation exists to ensure every student has the opportunity to find their community, influence change and thrive throughout their university experience.
As Undeb Bangor delivers its ambitious 2025–2030 Strategy, this is an exciting opportunity to provide strategic leadership to a vibrant, values-driven organisation at the heart of the University community. Following significant work to strengthen governance, board effectiveness and organisational culture, the Board is now seeking a Chair who can build on this momentum and help guide the next stage of the Students' Union's development.
About the Role
As Chair of the Board of Trustees, you will provide leadership to the Board, ensuring it operates effectively, upholds the highest standards of governance and enables the Students' Union to achieve its charitable purpose.
Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and fellow trustees, you will help shape the organisation's strategic direction, oversee financial sustainability, support effective decision-making and ensure compliance with charity law and regulatory requirements. You will also play an important role in fostering a positive and inclusive Board culture, supporting trustee development and acting as an ambassador for Undeb Bangor with external stakeholders.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of students by helping to ensure their Students' Union continues to be sustainable, ambitious and student-centred.
Undeb Bangor is keen to hear from individuals with strong leadership, strategic thinking and excellent relationship-building skills. You do not need previous experience as a Chair, but you will have experience of leadership, committee or board environments and be confident facilitating discussion, building consensus and supporting effective governance.

We are looking for up to ten UK university students to join our volunteer Student Ambassadors team and help Ygam achieve its social purpose by reaching out to students at university. Council is also responsible for its governance, control and supervision in accordance with the LSHTM’s Charter and relevant external regulations. These external requirements are set out in the Financial Memorandum between LSHTM and the OfS. The Council comprises a majority of lay members, as well as staff members and a student member. The roles of Chair and Deputy Chair of the Council are separated from the role of LSHTM’s Chief Executive, the Director.

Time Commitment
The nature of the role requires a commitment of time to prepare, attend and actively participate in Council and Committee meetings. Council meets four times a year and its Committees meet between three and six times a year depending on the Committee.
Remuneration
This is a non-remunerated role that does not attract a salary or honorarium. Independent members of Council and Committees will be able to claim reasonable travel and subsistence expenses incurred in the course of LSHTM business.

Develop and implement a dynamic fundraising plan that includes a variety of strategies tailored to Roots Academy’s target audiences, including university MSAs, mosques, and Islamic organisations.

Stay adaptable to emerging opportunities for funding, leveraging both traditional and innovative approaches to engage and attract potential donors.
Relationship Building:
Actively engage with MSAs, Islamic centres, and community organisations to establish Roots Academy as a cause worth supporting and to cultivate long-term donor relationships.
Collaborate with MSAs and community partners to organise local fundraising events, campaigns, and other initiatives that resonate with the community.

Work with Roots Academy’s marketing team to create campaign materials and digital content, ensuring that each initiative is tailored to engage and inspire potential donors.
Coordinate and oversee logistics for events, ensuring a smooth and impactful experience for all participants and maximising fundraising outcomes.
Tracking and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of fundraising activities, donor interactions, and campaign outcomes to ensure transparency and accountability.
Provide regular reports to the leadership team on fundraising efforts, adapting strategies as needed based on campaign performance and community feedback.
Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of different fundraising approaches, enabling continuous improvement in future efforts.
Skills and Qualifications:
Fundraising Experience: Proven experience in developing and executing successful fundraising strategies, particularly for nonprofit organisations, educational initiatives, or Islamic institutions.
Community-Oriented: A deep understanding of the Muslim community in Canada, especially in relation to university students and local mosques.
Relationship Building: Proven experience in building and maintaining meaningful relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
Project Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to support program delivery efficiently.
Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, from students to community leaders.

Marketing Support - Provide guidance and resources to partners for marketing Roots workshops effectively, including sharing marketing collateral and leading growth initiatives.

Communication Liaison - Serve as the primary point of contact through social media between our organisation and partner organisations, facilitating clear and consistent communication channels.

For many of the children in our programme, OOEF is the first time they have ever seen a live musician or held an instrument. We bring guest musicians into school to perform for them and help them try instruments from our own collection. It is one of our most popular sessions — and one of the most memorable things you are likely to do as a volunteer. Any instrument welcome. Any genre. Amateur or professional. We will sort the instruments — you just need to bring yourself and your music.
About the role
Orchestra of Everything Foundation (OOEF) delivers free, immersive music education to around 250 children aged 7–11 at St Michael's Junior School in Twerton and Whiteway — two schools in nationally ranked deprived communities. Our impact is off the scale: school leaders tell us that 86% of children show improved attitudes to learning across all subjects, and we have been instrumental in a 39% reduction in pupil suspensions. Our work has caught the attention of the Department for Education, and Bath Spa University now incorporates our model into teacher training.
You might visit once or come back regularly. You might play solo, with a colleague, or as part of an ensemble. Sessions are supervised alongside OOEF staff and volunteers throughout — you will never be alone with children. The children's reaction — curiosity, delight, the moment a sound comes out of an instrument for the first time — is something volunteers consistently describe as one of the most joyful experiences of their lives.
What you'll bring
• The ability to play an instrument or sing to a standard you are comfortable demonstrating
• Warmth and confidence engaging with groups of primary-school-age children
• A love of sharing music — the enthusiasm is as important as the skill
Time commitment
Guest musician sessions are fully ad hoc — we confirm dates that suit you. A typical visit is around 1-2 hours. Some musicians come individually; others come as part of ensembles, university music societies or via employer volunteering programmes. There is no minimum commitment — one visit is genuinely valuable.

OOEF runs two different music clubs at our primary schools: a lunchtime club for younger children who are just discovering instruments, and an after-school club for older children who have had some experience and want to take it further. Both are relaxed, informal settings — very different from the classroom — and both need volunteers to support the children and the lead practitioner. Experience playing an instrument is helpful, but not vital. If you are patient, reliable and love music, we would love to hear from you.

Time commitment

OOEF runs free music sessions for children aged 7–11 at two primary schools in Twerton and Whiteway. The sessions are so valued by the schools that children are released from maths lessons to attend. We need volunteers to sit alongside children as they practise — listening, encouraging, celebrating their progress. No musical experience needed. About the role
Orchestra of Everything Foundation (OOEF) delivers free, immersive music education to around 250 children aged 7–11 at St Michael's Junior School in Twerton and Roundhill Primary in Whiteway — two schools in nationally ranked deprived communities. Our impact is off the scale: school leaders tell us that 86% of children show improved attitudes to learning across all subjects, and we have been instrumental in a 39% reduction in pupil suspensions. Our work has caught the attention of the Department for Education, and Bath Spa University now incorporates our model into teacher training.
As a Practice Buddy you sit alongside small groups of children as they work through their instruments — listening, encouraging and celebrating their progress. You will work in a team of 5–10 at all times; no one ever works alone with children. Training and mentoring are built in from day one.

A unique opportunity to teach prison inmates sewing and designing skills while encouraging their own creativity.
Help engender greater self-belief and enhance potential employability upon release.
We will be using surplus fabric from the textile trade which would otherwise go into landfill.
This is not seen as a commercial enterprise so any profit made from selling marketable products would be invested in prisoner welfare.
We are recruiting a team of volunteers to teach cutting and machine-sewing skills in Pentonville prison, with inmates vetted for this project and with strictly applied safeguarding in place. MA students from Saint Martins Arts University, under the auspices of Professor Lorraine Gamman’s ‘Design Against Crime’ project will also be contributing time and creative input.
Ideally we foresee volunteers and inmates exchanging and developing ideas together in a supportive and creative space.
Volunteers will be asked to commit for at least six months to a minimum of 3-4 hours a week and would in a typical session together with at least one other volunteer be working with up to five learners. A one-session training on working in a prison will be provided.
To teach prison inmates sewing and design skills for both personal self-esteem and potential use after release.
