Job description

Age UK Westminster is working in partnership with Octavia Support to deliver a wide range of activity sessions for local older people over the age of 50. 

The aim of the activity programmes will be to encourage older people in the community, who may be affected by loneliness, social isolation and changing physical and/or mental health to connect with others and to remain socially active, healthy, independent and thus build a better life.  The activities will take place in a friendly environment at Octavia premises around Westminster and RBKC.

We are looking to recruit activity volunteer who are able run one or more of the following activity programmes:

  • Arts & crafts
  • Coffee morning
  • Chair based exercises
  • Baking
  • Cooking 
  • Singing
  • Reading clubs
  • Creative writing
  • Reminiscing 
  • IT Support

We welcome suggestions for other activities that you think may be beneficial to our target group.

This opportunity will suit someone who is available to volunteer on weekdays in the morning or afternoon. Each activity session will run on a weekly basis for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. 

We will provide training covering roles and responsibilities, health and safety and emergency procedures, so that you may feel comfortable and confident in your new role.

We will also provide all the materials required for each activity.

Skills, experiences and qualities required:

  • Organised and reliable 
  • Able to work independently when the role requires
  • Good spoken English is essential
  • Sensitivity to the needs of others
  • Able to get on well with others
  • Ability to treat clients in a non- judgmental way
