Can you help the Bristol Oxfam Online Shop raise money to support and empower some of the world’s most vulnerable communities?
We are looking for people with an eye for detail to help us research, prepare, photograph, describe and dispatch our homewares on Oxfam’s bespoke online shop. Our specialist online shop sells an eclectic range of clothing, accessories, books, music, film and homewares, sourced from our generous donors at Oxfam shops across the area.
We have had some very interesting homewares donations over the years, from antique postal scales to vintage bears and Wedgwood tea sets. If you know your homewares and can help us identify, price, list and photograph our stock your help will be invaluable! You will receive full training and support from our friendly and knowledgeable team.
What you can do at the shop:
We believe in empowering our volunteers so, depending on your interests and what you would like to get out of the role, you can get involved with any of the following aspects of running the online shop (and more!):
· Researching rare and valuable stock
· Selection, preparation and presentation of stock
· Photography and editing
· Creating accurate and engaging online listings
· Creating engaging content for the shop's social media platforms
· Packaging and dispatching items
What we can offer:
Oxfam's core values are empowerment, inclusiveness and accountability, and we stand by these in all aspects of our work. We provide a safe, friendly and supportive environment and we have a range of tasks to suit all potential volunteers. When you volunteer with us you will have the opportunity to develop your skills (and enhance your CV) and bring your own ideas into the shop. You will be warmly welcomed and you will feel a sense of ownership over the work you do. We will provide full training, giving you the benefit of our experience. We provide references for our volunteers, and we believe nobody should be out of pocket to volunteer with us, so if you live outside the Cotham area we can help with reasonable travel costs. Our shop only sells online and we are not open to the public, so if are interested in gaining ecommerce experience but would value a quieter, relaxed working environment, you will love it here!
What our team have to say about working at the shop:
“Oxfam has given me my first relevant volunteering experience – I’ve learnt about a range of different items as well as how an organisation works – and it gives me a chance each week to switch my focus away from uni work!”
“You come across lots of interesting items, but it can be a thrill when you find something rare or out of the ordinary”
“I’ve been here for four years and I love it – very friendly team, very varied – dealing with high end clothing, antiquarian books, household items and much more – it’s great to find new homes for unwanted goods”
What we ask for:
· Enthusiasm for selling stuff online!
· A willingness to learn and to work within Oxfam's core values
· A commitment of a 3 hour shift per week for at least 3 months
· A commitment to abide by all shop health and safety processes
What your help will enable us to do:

Can you help us raise as much as we can to continue our work this year? We won't live with poverty. If you feel the same way we would love to work with you!

A unique opportunity to teach prison inmates sewing and designing skills while encouraging their own creativity.
Help engender greater self-belief and enhance potential employability upon release.
We will be using surplus fabric from the textile trade which would otherwise go into landfill.
This is not seen as a commercial enterprise so any profit made from selling marketable products would be invested in prisoner welfare.
We are recruiting a team of volunteers to teach cutting and machine-sewing skills in Pentonville prison, with inmates vetted for this project and with strictly applied safeguarding in place. MA students from Saint Martins Arts University, under the auspices of Professor Lorraine Gamman’s ‘Design Against Crime’ project will also be contributing time and creative input.
Ideally we foresee volunteers and inmates exchanging and developing ideas together in a supportive and creative space.
Volunteers will be asked to commit for at least six months to a minimum of 3-4 hours a week and would in a typical session together with at least one other volunteer be working with up to five learners. A one-session training on working in a prison will be provided.

We are asking Local Coordinators to launch Amnesty Human Rights Where You Live initiatives in their area of the East Midlands, helping to bring together local people with an interest in human rights. This is an on-the-ground role promoting activism in your area.
Over the next twelve months, Coordinators would then support their local team to:
Raise awareness of and campaign on human rights issues locally.
Persuade local politicians to put human rights at the heart of their decisions
Engage their local community and ‘change the conversation’ on human rights
Mark International Human Rights Day on 10 December
Set up an Amnesty local group with fundraising to enable future campaigning
They would also have the chance to team up with other Coordinators to help develop and deliver a human rights campaign for the East Midlands.
This is a great opportunity to make a difference in your local area on issues you are passionate about while also gaining experience and confidence with a wide range of campaign and communication skills.
What support would I get?
Coordinators will be supported at every step by the Amnesty East Midlands Regional Organiser and other staff, who will provide:
Support for a local launch meeting for Human Rights Where You Live
Training in knowledge and skills
1-1 coaching
Organising, campaigning and fundraising resources
Face-to-face and online networking with other activists as a regional team.
My main staff point of contact would be: East Midlands Regional Organiser
All Coordinators would:
Communicate regularly with the East Midlands Regional Organiser
Feedback on their activities on a regular and structured basis.
Aim to attend a reasonable number of core training and networking sessions online and in-person, depending on individual circumstances.
What skills and knowledge are needed?
Some knowledge of your local area in the East Midlands.
Good written and oral communications skills
Experience of team-working
Basic IT competency (email, word processing, etc.) and internet access
Experience of campaigning is always welcome but not essential – we find that people often have skills from something else they have done that would be very helpful for the role.
How much time is needed?
We would estimate around 2-3 hours a week would be the average, although there may be some periods where more or less commitment is needed. We’d ask that you commit to your local Human Rights Where You Live project for at least one year, although we recognize that people’s circumstances do change.
We also understand that this role may need to fit around your family, studies, caring or other commitments.
Any other requirements?
Coordinators would need to be living in the East Midlands and unlikely to move in the next 12 months. We welcome interest from students at East Midlands universities.
We would ask that any Coordinator be at least 18. However, if you are under 18 but would still like to get involved in Amnesty, please do get in touch to find more about our youth groups.
We welcome interest from people who are already volunteering with another community or campaign group with an interest in human rights, and who are interested in doing a local Human Rights Where You Live project as a collaboration between Amnesty and that group.
