Co-op Homes (CHS) is a housing association which owns some 300 properties across London and the South East. We're also a managing agent for 30 other community housing organisations and housing co-ops, providing services to over 2,000 residents. Our unique proposition lies in our ability to provide expert housing management services to housing co-operatives and other small, resident-led housing organisations, enabling them to maintain their autonomy.
Board member opportunities
CHS is governed by a Board of Management made up of paid members who meet regularly throughout the year to direct policy and make major decisions on housing matters. The Board is also responsible for ensuring that we are managed efficiently, effectively and in line with the requirements of the law, regulatory bodies, best practice and value for money.
We have an active Board, currently made up of five members, bringing a variety of skills and backgrounds. Our Chair has been in the role since 2021 and we appointed a new Managing Director within the last year.
We are now looking to recruit two new board members. One who can bring strategic finance expertise and another with building asset management experience.
- Strategic finance: As a provider, we offer a unique set of services that have particular challenges. We are looking for an experienced senior finance professional to help us balance the risks and benefits involved in relation to our portfolio and scrutinise our finances strategically for the longer term.
- Building asset management: We are looking for expertise in property management. This will include repairs and maintenance, health and safety legislation and regulations, strategic asset management and decarbonisation.
We would very much welcome applications from people who combine relevant expertise with lived experience of social housing or experience of living in a housing co-operative, as we know you would bring a unique insight to the role. We are seeking to appoint a new Trustee to provide strategic oversight and leadership for the organisation, particularly in the area of IT, Digital, and Technology.
The purpose of your role is to work alongside the other trustees to ensure that the Association is working towards its charitable purposes, is complying with all applicable rules and laws, and is making best use of its resources to achieve its aims. We are specifically looking for someone to provide us with the expertise to oversee our exciting digital transformation, product development and overall cybersecurity.

About the opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Smart Works Greater Manchester Board of Trustees.
The Young Women’s Trustee will lead the development of understanding the needs of Smart Works Greater Manchester’s younger clients aged 16 to 25 years (these being unemployed, NEET or in danger of becoming NEET, and those leave the care system) and become a recognised and valued advocate for this community across Greater Manchester.
The successful candidate will develop new and existing connections with referral partners who support young unemployed women, input to the marketing plan and social media content to better reach and communicate with this audience, and build relationships with corporate partners and grant funders who support this community.

General Duties of a Smart Works Trustee

Personal Specification

Lived experience of unemployment and / or experience supporting social value or youth unemployment projects is preferred, but not essential.
The successful applicant will demonstrate enthusiasm for developing at board level and will become a real advocate for young women living in socially disadvantaged and minority communities across Greater Manchester.

• Ensure that SEED and its representatives function within all legal and regulatory frameworks continually striving for best practice in governance.

Accountability:

SEED Trustees should uphold the fiduciary duty required of all charity trustees to act in the best interests of both current and future beneficiaries of the charity, being held personally liable for any breach of that duty.

Required skills & experience:
The successful applicant will:
• Demonstrate a passion for and sound knowledge of development and/or conservation issues facing least developed countries such as Madagascar.
• Demonstrate sound knowledge and keen interest in at least one of SEED’s core areas (community health; sustainable livelihoods; environmental conservation) or in a key functional area (management, finance, marketing).
• Have a reasonable level of understanding of legal, financial, audit and other regulatory requirements of a charity, ideally through experience as a trustee.

About the Role
The organisation is recruiting a Vice Chair who can support our transformation journey, we have an ambitious and exciting growth plan, which will provide us with long-term sustainability. You will need to commit to attendance at Board meetings, currently every three months and an additional sub-group meeting, such as finance or marketing each quarter. There may be other demands on your time, especially during this coming year as we transition into a new facility, but these should not exceed on average 2 hours each month. Experience in the sector is not essential as training will be provided and you will be supported with a thorough induction to the responsibilities of a trustee and the organisation.
Specific duties for all charity trustees which are laid down by Charity Law are:
a. A duty of care, to ensure that the charity works in pursuance only of its objects and that it delivers on these.
b. A duty of compliance with all relevant legislation and regulation; and
c. A duty of prudence in respect of the charity’s assets.
ii. The organisation’s Articles of Association set out the composition of the Board of Trustees, how the Trustees are appointed and their powers.
Purpose
1.1. The Board of Trustees is ultimately responsible for the overall conduct of the organisation and all its projects and will conduct its business to ensure that the organisation is:

· properly managed.

About the Organisation
The organisation was established in 1993 as a charity supporting young people living in the city and county of Nottingham. The overarching aim of the organisation is to provide support to young people taking a holistic approach to their health and well-being; this is provided through easy access to health, counselling, housing, and learning opportunities while providing a safe place to meet, take part in activities and use practical services such affordable meals, laundry, and showers.
Currently, the primary work of the organisation is delivered through the NGY MyPlace centre in Nottingham, bringing together a multi-disciplinary team enabling the needs of young people to be met in one place. Until 2012, the organisation operated from Glasshouse Street and in 2008 became part of the successful Nottingham bid for Myplace funding under the Government’s commitment to provide youth centres for young people. This bid brought 4.9 million into Nottingham, purchased a building and funded the refurbishment, transforming a grade2 listed Georgian townhouse into a multi-purpose centre, named NGY, run by the organisation and bringing together partners in the centre.

About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Finance Volunteer for our Clackmannanshire and Stirling Group. As a Finance Volunteer, you would be joining a coordinating team of volunteers to plan and deliver services and activities to support people locally.
You will maintain and approve income and expenditure records and explain financial information clearly to other group members. You would ensure our financial requirements and policies are followed, and that money is spent in a cost effective manner.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience with a large charity, develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be comfortable with figures, preferably with an accounting or business background. You will live in the immediate area of the Group, allowing you to meet with other volunteers from the Group.

Tonic is seeking a new Chair to provide inclusive and collaborative leadership to the Board of Trustees. The Chair will be key in helping deliver Tonic’s charitable objectives and optimising the skills and experience of the Board.
For over a decade Tonic has been at the forefront of driving change within the performing arts and wider arts and culture, supporting the sector to achieve greater equality, diversity and inclusion. Our mission is to ensure that the broadest range of people can have art and creativity in their lives, whether engaging as professionals, amateur participants, or audiences. We do this via our thriving programme of sector-wide projects, one-to-one support for arts organisations, training, events and the creation and publication of books and resources.
Founded in 2011, we have successfully developed from an aspirational one-person start-up to a robust, mature charity which has steadily grown its income and workforce. We are now at a stage where we can further professionalise the way in which we operate and govern the organisation, providing a sustainable business model for our planned growth. We are seeking a Chair who will be excited to have the opportunity to review how the organisation is run and promote good governance and best-practise in all aspects of Tonic’s operations.

St Luke's Hospice have an opportunity for an experienced Trustee with an income generation/finance/business management background to help make a positive contribution to the work we do for patients and families within our local communities.
What will you be doing?
If you have experience in the private, public or voluntary sectors and the drive to make a difference, we have an opportunity for you to join our Trustee Board to make a positive contribution to the work we do. St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice cares for people in mid & south Cheshire who are suffering from life limiting illnesses. We offer specialist treatment, care, advice and support to patients and their families.
We undertake an annual audit of the skill mix of our Trustees to find the right blend of experience and expertise to support the work of the Hospice through their support for the Senior Management Team. We look for Trustees who have the dedication, commitment and desire to improve our services and help us to achieve our strategic goals in line with our ethos and values.
We would be happy to receive applications from someone, whose responsibility as a Trustee will be to overview all Income Generation at St Luke’s. This role will include being a Director of the Promotion and Trading companies which look after the hospice lottery and our retail shops. Someone with experience of managing income generation, working collaboratively and with business management and finance (including P&L) knowledge would be desirable for this position.

Trustees are expected to attend full Trustee Board Meetings, which are held in the early evenings on the last Wednesday of every month either at the Hospice or remotely via Microsoft TEAMs. You will also be expected to be a member of a Board Sub Committee which meets 6 times per year.
Trustee positions are un-remunerated although reasonable out of pocket expenses will be paid. This role offers a person the chance to make a valid contribution to a respected community organisation, is a great opportunity for professional development, exposure at Board level and the chance to support the development of local services.

What are we looking for?
Each year the Hospice undertakes a skills mix audit to identify the key skills required to support the SMT in the day to day running of the Hospice.
The most recent audit has identified the following skills as essential to support the SMT and create a balanced trustee board able to make knowledgeable and effective decisions:
- Experience in managing income generation.
- Experience in working collaboratively.
- Experience of Business Management.
- Experience of Finance including P&L.
What difference will you make?
This is a vital role within the Hospice and will contribute to ensuring patients and families within the community receive safe, well-led compassionate care. It will also be a key role in ensuring good financial governance alongside supporting our strategic goals, particularly in relation to the generation of income for the Hospice.

Good Vibrations is an award-winning, national arts organisation that changes lives through music. We work with some of the most vulnerable and hard-to-reach people in the UK, including in prisons, secure hospitals, and in the community. We are best known for using the Indonesian gamelan, a magnificent set of bronze gongs, xylophones and drums. The Board of Trustees
Good Vibrations is a registered charity in both England & Wales (1126493) and Scotland (SC048860). The charity is governed by the Board of Trustees, which currently numbers five following the standing down of some long-term members.
The Board is vital in Good Vibrations’ governance and is responsible for setting directions in strategy and maintaining oversight over all activity. Trustees also play an ambassadorial role in raising awareness of our work.
The current board includes expertise in arts and culture, legal and charitable affairs, finance and academia, helping to ensure that we extend our knowledge of the issues and challenges we face.
Good Vibrations is regularly in receipt of funding from Arts Council England and Creative Scotland, as well as from the National Lottery and several other Trusts and Foundations. What are we looking for?
The position has become available following the standing down of the current Chair Nick Jolliffe, who has been with the organisation since 2018. The organisation has recently appointed a new CEO, and this is an exciting time of development for the organisation.
As our new Chair, you will help shape the next exciting phase of our future development as we commence our new strategic plan, and embed our newest Trustees within our established Board. Your leadership and commitment will ensure we continue to provide and extend our range of much-needed support and services to our beneficiaries.
The role of the Chair is a voluntary, non-executive appointment. The role requires a commitment of approximately two hours a week, with the capacity to flex upwards should the need arise.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Strong leadership skills that engage, inspire and motivate the Board, staff, freelance team and other external stakeholders.
- Genuine interest and commitment to social justice issues and improving outcomes and opportunities for marginalised people in our society.
- A proven track record in developing strategic initiatives and steering an organisation toward success
- Previous experience on the Board of a UK charity, or operating at a senior strategic leadership level in previous roles
- Knowledge about UK charity governance and commitment to maintaining high standards of governance and risk management in all areas including finance.
- Excellent communication skills and networking capabilities, and able to act as an ambassador for the charity and cause.
- Ability to commit time, interest and effort to conduct the role well.
How our Board works
Trustees meet quarterly at Board Meetings, either in person in London or online from 5.00pm – 7.30pm. There is also an annual Strategy day in London.
In addition, a Finance sub-committee meets quarterly, looking in-depth at finance and other matters, before putting recommendations forward to the Board.
Trustees do not receive remuneration or other benefits, but all expenses can be claimed including those required to cover access needs such as sign language, interpretation, captioning or travel expenses. The full legal framework for Trustees is laid out in the Articles of Association, which were recently revised in 2022.
Trustees serve for an initial term of three years and will have the opportunity to be re-appointed for a second and final term (maximum of nine years).
What Responsibilities will you have?
Trustees ensure the good governance and smooth running of the charity, supporting the Chief Executive Director, the wider staff team, and our team of freelance facilitators.

All Board members can have access to training and charity networks to benefit not only the charity, but individual’s personal development.
All Good Vibrations’ Trustees have responsibility for the:
- governance of the organisation in line with legal and financial requirements of the Charity Commission, OSCR, other regulatory bodies, and funders;
- appointment, including the approval of job descriptions and pay levels of members of staff; agreeing terms & conditions and employment procedures;
- recruitment of new Trustees;
- approval of Good Vibrations’ strategy, its business, and artistic plans, and use of resources;
- approval of budgets, annual accounts and financial strategies;
- approval of all policies ensuring that they are updated in line with law and best practice.
The Chair, as the leader of the Board of Trustees, has some additional responsibilities including:
- working with and line managing the CEO to develop the direction and strategy of the charity;
- conducting annual performance reviews for each trustee and the CEO;
- ensuring high standards of governance, risk management and strategic direction
- ensuring that all Trustees have the information available to carry out this task and monitor progress;
- leading and developing the Board of Trustees and CEO including induction, training and succession planning;
- support of the CEO in their role, including developing external relations with key agencies;
- working with other members of the Board to organise and populate sub-committees and short-term working groups;
- planning the cycle of Board Meetings and working with the CEO to set agendas and plan meetings;
- chairing and facilitating Board meetings effectively, encouraging discussion, summarising key points and ensuring decisions are made fairly;
- acting as a principal ambassador for the organisation at Board level and developing external relationships for the benefit of Good Vibrations
