South West Advocacy Network (SWAN) want to strengthen their Board of Trustees with up to 4 new Trustee appointments, including a Treasurer. Main Responsibilities and Duties
• Ensure that SEED and its representatives function within all legal and regulatory frameworks continually striving for best practice in governance.
· Comply with SEED’s Code of Conduct and policies, providing leadership on its value base and organisational behaviour, including safeguarding, human resources and financial management.
· Work alongside fellow Trustees and the Senior Management Team in developing SEED’s strategic direction, promoting and developing this through good governance and clear strategic planning. To evaluate progress made towards achieving the strategic objectives.
• Ensure that SEED operates within its Charitable Objectives and organisational strategy in order that its work remains focussed and makes the greatest impact to those it serves.
• Actively contribute to the development of SEED’s business plan, monitoring and evaluating performance against agreed objectives.
• Prepare for and participate fully in board meetings reviewing all reports coming to these meetings.
• To undertake training when required.
• Use any specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the Board of Trustees reach quick and sound decisions and participate in sub-committees.

· Safeguard the good name and reputation of SEED, acting in the best interest of the charity, staff and beneficiaries at all times.
· Promote the work of SEED externally seeking opportunities that might further the work and visibility of the Charity.
· Support the Managing Director in leading the Charity, providing advice and practical help and participating in their annual evaluation.
· Maintain absolute confidentiality about all sensitive or confidential information received through carrying out the duties of a Trustee.
· Remain open and accessible to SEED’s staff through occasional communication and site visits.
Accountability:
As a Trustee you are responsible and liable for the governance and functioning of the charity and are accountable in varying degrees to a variety of stakeholders including: service users, members, funders, the Charity Commission, and Companies House.
SEED Trustees should uphold the fiduciary duty required of all charity trustees to act in the best interests of both current and future beneficiaries of the charity, being held personally liable for any breach of that duty.
Support regarding this is given by fellow Trustees, the Managing Director and the Senior Management team.
Required skills & experience:
The successful applicant will:
• Demonstrate a passion for and sound knowledge of development and/or conservation issues facing least developed countries such as Madagascar.
• Demonstrate sound knowledge and keen interest in at least one of SEED’s core areas (community health; sustainable livelihoods; environmental conservation) or in a key functional area (management, finance, marketing).
• Have a reasonable level of understanding of legal, financial, audit and other regulatory requirements of a charity, ideally through experience as a trustee.
• Show commitment to SEED and have sufficient time and willingness to contribute effectively to board proceedings and sub committee work.
• Be able to make quick and sound decisions based on an analysis of information presented to them.

What We are Looking for in New Trustees
We are looking for trustees who will help us to continue to grow the charity’s impact and profile. We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.
We are particularly looking for trustees who have some leadership experience or experience of leading in the charity sector. Ideally, applicants would also have knowledge and skills in one of the following areas: promotions and marketing, fundraising and HR. If you are unsure as to whether your skills and experience are what we are looking for, we would be happy to have a conversation prior to application. Terms of Appointment
Terms of Office
- Trustees are appointed for a term of up to three years and can be reappointed up to three times.
- This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
Time Commitment
- Boarding meetings are quarterly. Trustees are expected to attend at least 75% of meetings, including the Annual General Meeting. Meetings are currently held in person at Suite 11, Davey House, 31a St Neots Road, St Neots, Cambridgeshire, PE19 7BA. Trustees may also be part of sub-groups which will meet independently of the main board meetings. These meetings will be a combination of online and face-to-face meetings.
- In addition, trustees are expected to devote on average two hours per week to the role. This may involve scrutinising board papers, providing advice on new initiatives, providing support with ad hoc requests, supporting staff recruitment, disciplinaries and complaints, representing EqualiTeach at meetings and conferences or any other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

Why am I needed?
Our shops depend on a regular supply of quality donated stock. As some shops receive more donations than others, we need drivers to move stock between our shops to ensure they are all fully stocked.
Our fantastic supporters rely on stock donations being collected from their door when they are unable to bring it to us. Here at Tenovus Cancer Care we receive donated stock in many different ways, and this includes us collecting stock from supporters at their front door and picking up collections from local business partners.
All of this vital work needs to happen for us to raise more money to help cancer patients and their families.
What will I be doing?
Dependant on your volunteer location, duties may include but may not be limited to:
Predominantly assisting the Retail team in moving stock between shops
Taking this donated stock to shops and to the Warehouse
Delivering donation bags to homes in selected areas and collecting the full bags on an agreed day
Collecting donations at businesses where our ‘Donation Stations’ are located
Offering feedback to the Retail team on how to improve the collections service.

Good communication skills to be able to respond positively with any queries from members of the pubic

This role would suit a proactive and outgoing person who enjoys meeting with others
The ability to drive and have a good size car or van is essential for the driving role if based at one of our shops. You will need to check with your car insurers that you are insured for business use before starting with us (this can usually be arranged at no extra cost) and your driving licence and business insurance will need to be checked before you can start.
How much time do I need to commit?
This can be discussed with the Retail team and hours are very flexible to fit around you – please note on your application how much time you can give.

How much time should I offer?
• This role is flexible but we do look for a regular commitment.
• IT appointments are at our support centres at locations around Warwickshire.
• Rugby, Nuneaton , Coleshill, Atherstone and Bedworth
• Depending on the location sessions are weekly or monthly either 9:30am to 11:30pm or 2:30pm to 4:30pm
Is there an induction and training?
• You will receive an induction when you start
• We will provide any training you need to complete the role
What on-going support/guidance will there be?
• You will be supported by our IT4U team
• Opportunities to meet and network with staff and fellow volunteers during the year
Will I need my own transport?
• Access to your own vehicle would be an advantage.

As an External Trustee, you will play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction of Chester Students' Union, ensuring it is delivering effectively for its members and challenging the University to deliver the best possible University experience.

Previous experience serving on boards or in leadership positions, preferably within the education or non-profit sector.

Proven ability to think strategically and contribute to the development of long-term organisational goals.
Experience in strategic planning, risk management, and performance evaluation.
4. Financial Acumen:
Familiarity with financial management, budgeting, and financial reporting. Ability to analyse financial information and make informed decisions in the best interest of the organisation.
5. Legal and Compliance Knowledge:
Understanding of the legal and regulatory obligations of charitable companies in the UK. Awareness of governance and compliance issues relevant to the higher education sector.
6. Networking and Advocacy:
Strong networking skills with the ability to advocate for the Students' Union and build collaborative partnerships.
A willingness to represent the organisation at external events and engage with stakeholders.
7. Student-Centric Approach:
A genuine commitment to student welfare and the enhancement of the student experience. Ability to empathise with and understand the diverse needs of the student community.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.

We are seeking to appoint a new Trustee to provide strategic oversight and leadership for the organisation, particularly in the area of IT, Digital, and Technology.
The purpose of your role is to work alongside the other trustees to ensure that the Association is working towards its charitable purposes, is complying with all applicable rules and laws, and is making best use of its resources to achieve its aims. We are specifically looking for someone to provide us with the expertise to oversee our exciting digital transformation, product development and overall cybersecurity.
Being a charity trustee with the Association is a rewarding experience and gives a unique opportunity to support and shape a national mental health charity at the highest level. Now is an exciting time to join us as we have recently begun the transition from a volunteer-led organisation to a staff-led model, which is opening up new opportunities.
Trustees have legal responsibility for the Association’s management and administration. They are ultimately responsible for the Association’s work and are accountable to both the Association’s legal members and its regulators such as the Charity Commission for the good governance of the Association.
Trustees take considered and informed decisions in the best interests of the Association. Trustees are not expected to be experts on all areas of their work but are expected to seek guidance and support where necessary and to bring their own knowledge and experience to contribute to discussions.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications
- Eligible to be a Company Director & Charity Trustee
Experience
- Professional experience in an IT/Digital/Technology Field, such as (but not limited to):
- Software development
- Cybersecurity
- Technical programme/product management.
- Engineering management.
- Managing/overseeing technology-related projects, including financial components.

- Excellent communicator, verbal and written – approachable, clear and professional
- Strategic and creative approach – not being afraid to change the way we do things to improve outcomes
- A strong team-player – a contributor of opinion and thoughts, whilst having the ability to collaborate and be accepting of others views
- Logical approach to decision making – ensuring difficult decisions are taken calmly on the best available information, and with the beneficiaries of the charity in mind
Knowledge
- Familiar with public Cloud technologies.
- Familiar with modern software development principles (SDLC, DevOps)

Desirable Criteria
Experience
- Strategy / business management with the ability to plan and develop the charity
- Previous experience with a telephone helpline or mental health charity (or similar)
- Managing and engaging volunteers and/or young people
- Previous experience as a company director and/or charity trustee
Knowledge
- Understanding of the Nightline movement and/or the wider student mental health sector
