About the role
You will support the Chief Executive to ensure the smooth running of Freedom from Torture's services and national and global influencing work against torture and for the rights of survivors of torture.
You will work at the highest levels of the organisation, with Freedom from Torture's Board of Trustees and Senior Management Team and help to manage important relationships for the Chief Executive including with government and civil society.
You will report to our Head of CEO Office and spend a small portion of your time providing executive support to our Director of Fundraising and Communications.
You will also support our Chair to ensure our Board of Trustees provides the best possible governance for Freedom from Torture including compliance with legal requirements and best practice in areas such as charity finance, risk management and safeguarding.
There is also scope within the role to coordinate projects to support the continuous development of Freedom from Torture.
About you
You will be a born organiser, with superb judgment, a diplomatic approach and problem-solving skills. You will have the ability to think two steps ahead, guided by our strategic and operational priorities, and the confidence to steer senior managers accordingly.
As a right-hand person to the Chief Executive, you will bring a meticulous attention to detail and exemplary skills in prioritisation, time management and task completion. Your written and verbal communication skills will be first-rate, and you will be comfortable handling confidential material with the utmost discretion.

Overview of the Role
As Communications Director, you will play a pivotal role in advancing Crisis Action’s unique model of campaigning by driving maximum innovation and impact in our campaigns; communicating Crisis Action’s story in new and compelling ways to our diverse network of partners and donors; and by building allies and creative coalitions globally. We are looking for an exceptional changemaker who is an all-in-one storyteller, strategic communicator, newshound, and mentor, with the ability to ensure maximum innovation and impact in our campaigns and communications for the protection of civilians from conflict.
This is not a typical Communications Director role. We do not want our profile raised: in fact, while keeping us entirely behind the scenes, you will help our campaign teams and partners develop and deliver ever-more creative, strategic, and digitally aware campaigns that can achieve cut-through in a dramatically changing geopolitical landscape.
Our new Communications Director will be a seasoned communications professional with a strong understanding of the media landscape, but also an experienced changemaker with the soul and energy of an activist. ABOUT THE ROLE
Working closely with the Executive Director of Feedback Global, as well as with other members of the senior team and the Executive Director of Feedback EU, the Fundraising Manager will develop and implement a strategy to raise funds for Feedback Global and Feedback EU, with a target of £3m yearly income across both organisations by the end of 2025.
The overwhelming majority of the funds raised will be from trusts and foundations, and so the role will primarily consist of researching potential trusts and working with the different teams to research and write compelling concept notes and applications. As such, the postholder will be expected to proactively keep informed about developments in the food, social justice, and environmental sectors. The postholder will also lead on reporting to these funders and maintain and develop these relationships. The postholder will work to engage institutional supporters, create connections and develop the organisation’s networks with such funders. The postholder will identify new trusts and foundations and build and maintain a robust pipeline of income generation opportunities.
The postholder will also be expected to contribute to other fundraising projects which might include digital fundraising development, direct marketing, and major donor fundraising, in partnership with the communications team and senior leadership team.
This will be a varied role within a fast-paced environment, therefore flexibility and a positive, can-do attitude and a readiness to get stuck into all aspects of the organisation are essential competencies of the successful candidate. Reporting directly to the Executive Directors, the role is integral to the success of the organisation and presents a real opportunity to help shape its future direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and manage a pipeline of trusts and foundations that offer unrestricted and programmatic funding.

About the role:
As our US Associate Director of Philanthropy, you will join a talented, driven and passionate global fundraising team, and have a vital role in leading our philanthropy program in the US in support of our mission to end factory farming for the benefit of animals, people and the planet. We have come a long way in the past few years, establishing a professional integrated international philanthropy team with new investment to support our ambitious growth strategy. Working closely with our UK HQ and our global team, you'll craft and execute strategies that not only meet ambitious global income targets but also resonate with our supporters' values and beliefs.
As part of this pivotal role, you will cultivate relationships with major donors, trusts, and companies, in the US and the Americas, rallying support for our cause, in line with our ethical fundraising policy. With your strategic vision, you'll develop innovative prospect pipelines and engagement plans that inspire generosity and commitment, working closely with the Global Director of Fundraising, International Head of Philanthropy (co-leader) and US Executive Director. As a senior leader within Fundraising, you will empower and guide the US Philanthropy team, fostering an environment where everyone thrives and contributes to our shared goals. You will need hands-on experience in championing donor engagement, stewardship, and solicitation, leveraging your expertise and networks to secure substantial philanthropic gifts.
About you:
To succeed in this role, you will need to exhibit the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct, as the successful candidate you will have relevant qualifications and previous fundraising experience, including closing six-figure gifts. You will be adept at fostering relationships, securing high-level philanthropic contributions, and helping to propel the growth of our US philanthropy programme in support of our global mission. You will possess a well-defined strategic acumen and be adept at articulating and delivering a compelling vision, that will help to steer our philanthropy programme towards success.
You will need to have proven experience with mentoring and leading high-performing team members. You’ll have previous experience in budgetary management and be well-versed in IT applications, such as Microsoft Office and fundraising databases, experience working for an international non-profit, and/or in the animal welfare / environmental space would be an advantage. The ‘Wilder Marches’ is an iconic cultural and ecological landscape straddling the English Welsh border, broadly defined by the Radnorshire Hills and Clun & NW Herefordshire national landscape character areas. Wilder Marches is also the name of a new initiative to bring about nature’s recovery by creating and restoring habitat at scale in partnership with land managers and other agencies.
The project is currently in a development phase, with the aim of this phase is to create specific projects, to secure funding for expansion, and to begin building a team of land management, green finance advisors, and project officers. One of these workstreams is the establishment of a business model that will be sustainable in the long term. This will be the primary responsibility of the successful candidate to further develop and deliver.
Due to upcoming maternity leave, there is an opportunity to join the Wilder Marches team as Business Development Manager on a fixed term basis.
The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for developing new business models leveraging emerging green finance 2 approaches to support nature’s recover to enable long term programme sustainability and delivery.
The candidate will be expected to research and identify new business opportunities - including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products and services. They will develop business models and plans to enable sustainable revenue for the programme. The candidate will present findings to the steering board for approval, and then provide a detailed road map to enable delivery of this. Some operational work including establishment of legal structures, development of a customer base and contract management may be required as part of the role.
