The Biochemical Society are seeking a Head of Journals, on a 2-year Fixed Term contract on a part time basis (0.6 FTE), to oversee the editorial and production functions across the Portland Press portfolio.
The Head of Journals will support the Director of Content and Engagement on the delivery of the PPL strategy, growing the publishing portfolio based on strategy and community need to achieve agreed targets, year-on-year growth, increase usage and attract the best authorship. You will also work closely with the Head of Sales and Licensing to ensure content and commercial strategies are aligned to drive growth and innovation.
The post-holder will oversee all systems, processes, suppliers and partners are delivering to agreed standards, along with driving continuous improvements to KPIs within publishing processes to deliver high-quality, cost-effective end-to-end publishing service in line with business strategy and research need, and able to recommend improvements or innovative ways of working.
This role will contribute to growing and maintaining the international profile and reputation of Portland Press and the Biochemical Society to deliver a reliable and efficient service with internal and external stakeholders to generate new ideas.
This position has management responsibility for the Publishing team, fostering a culture of conscientious working and continuous improvement to creatively grow the journals portfolio and ensure outstanding customer/research service across all publications.
Suitable candidates will have experience working in all areas of STM journal systems and processes, as well as demonstrate good knowledge of publishing policy, procedures and practices to drive performance and meet internal and external expectations.

About The Role

You will have excellent written communication skills and experience producing persuasive funding applications, reports and donor communications. You will also have strong organisational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities and experience supporting or supervising others within a fundraising environment.
You will be confident building relationships with internal and external stakeholders and able to use data and insight to inform fundraising activity and demonstrate impact. Experience using CRM systems and fundraising platforms is essential, alongside a good understanding of fundraising regulations and best practice.

The digital skills gap is costing the UK economy an estimated £63 billion a year in lost GDP. Ada seeks to fill this skills gap by equipping young with the skills industry actually needs.
Ada was announced by the Prime Minister in December 2014; England’s first new FE College since 1993 and since then we’ve gone from strength to strength including a Good with Outstanding features in our first Ofsted Inspection.
16-19 Provision:
As of 2024, we have 187 16-19 students enrolled. Our most recent results are outstanding; 39% of A level results at A*- B and 74% achieving at least one Distinction or better in their externally assessed Computing BTEC. This makes us the best education institution in the country for this BTEC.
Degree Apprenticeships:
Across our London Victoria and Manchester Ancoats campus, we have 363 apprentices currently enrolled on our Higher and Degree Level Apprenticeships. We specialise in five disciplines at present: software development, data analytics, tech consultancy, cyber security and business analysis, working with a wide range of SMEs and corporate organisations such as PwC, Bank of America, Deloitte, Clearscore, Just Eat, Capita, MHRA, Booking,com and Salesforce.

JOB PURPOSE
The postholder is responsible for securing, managing, and growing commercial partnerships with organisations that support AdviceUK’s mission, values and strategic priorities. About The Drive Partnership
The Drive Partnership, established by Respect, SafeLives, and Social Finance in 2015, is working to end domestic abuse and protect victim-survivors by disrupting, challenging, and changing the behaviour of those who are causing harm. The Drive Partnership does this through the development of innovative perpetrator responses and advocating for systems and policy change to develop sustainable, national systems that respond more effectively to all perpetrators to increase the safety and freedom of all adult and child victim-survivors.
Purpose
Following a four-year investment from the Home Office announced in July 2025, the Drive Project – the Drive Partnership’s flagship intervention for high-risk, high-harm and serial perpetrators of domestic abuse – will expand across all areas in England and Wales, with the vast majority of funding flowing directly to local perpetrator services and victim-survivor services by nature of the Drive Project’s model.
To support the safe implementation of the expansion of the Drive Project intervention, we are seeking a proactive, solution focused individual to work with Drive Partnership and SafeLives, and our delivery sites to ensure our Data Protection policies and practice are up to date, and being consistently adhered to.

About Care4Calais and the Legal Access Department
Care4Calais is a volunteer-based charity providing essential aid and support for refugees in France and the UK.
In northern France we operate year-round from Calais, working alongside communities in Calais and Dunkirk to provide warm clothing, bedding and service provision to displaced people who live in difficult and dangerous conditions.
Across the UK we collect and distribute clothes, shoes, mobile phones and other essential items, as well as providing psycho social support and interaction, including language lessons, sport and music workshops. We also help with vital access to medical and educational services.
Our Legal Access Department is an access to justice project that exists to support people seeking asylum in the UK by facilitating access to legal representation and offering holistic support to people throughout the asylum process. The department, made up mostly of specially trained volunteers, works tirelessly to ensure that people feel informed, empowered, and far less isolated and alone. We conduct one-to-one, complex casework for people seeking asylum for a variety of matters, over the years we have supported thousands of people to secure legal representation. Our current casework channels include securing legal representation and support for people’s asylum claims, challenges to unsuitable accommodation and potential removal from the UK (for example under the current UK-France ‘One in One out’ deal), and support for young people in their age dispute matters. Our teams work remotely across the UK. The Department seeks to adapt and amend our services based on the needs of the communities that we work with.
About the role
The aim of the role is to support and inspire volunteer teams to undertake the individual one-to-one casework and support that lies at the heart of what the Legal Access Department does, furthering access to justice for people seeking asylum and refugees. The Casework Manager will be responsible for the casework conducted by our Asylum Team, which focuses on securing legal representation for our client's asylum claims and offering holistic support through the difficulties of the asylum process. Casework managers will use their experience and understanding of the UK asylum system and conducting complex casework to guide their teams, working collaboratively with each other and the Head of Department to respond with agility to a fast-moving policy environment.
Responsibilities
Volunteer Management
- Lead existing team(s) of volunteers to undertake their specified roles as agreed with the Head of Department
- Conduct quarterly 1:1s with volunteers to give and receive feedback, reaffirm commitments, review caseloads, support with more complex cases, and ensure volunteer wellbeing. Escalate any issues and/or concerns to the Head of Department where necessary.
- Motivate and engage volunteers, taking into account the remote nature of the roles, collaborating with other Casework Managers.
- Facilitate regular team meetings and/or virtual drop ins for volunteers to ensure continued engagement and space to raise issues or concerns.

What You’ll Do:
You'll head up our Membership team, responsible for new and existing members. This is a front-line role where you’ll:
- Grow and develop membership by identifying, engaging and converting new member organisations, building a strong pipeline of opportunities and increasing membership income.
- Manage and strengthen member relationships to maximise engagement, retention and progression across Thirtyone:eight's tiered membership offering.
- Lead membership operations and performance through effective use of CRM data, reporting, budgeting, process improvement and line management of the Membership Officer.
- Champion the membership proposition by collaborating with internal teams, developing strategic partnerships and representing Thirtyone:eight at events, conferences and networking opportunities.

Main Responsibilities
1. Lead the active recruitment of new members with a particular focus on decision-makers and leaders.
2. Build, manage and progress a membership pipeline, using proactive activity, referrals, events, partner networks and existing organisational data.
3. Use Thirtyone:eight’s membership database to identify prospective organisations, map trends and growth opportunities aligned with our tiered membership model.
4. Initiate and lead conversations with prospective members, articulating the value of membership clearly and confidently, responding to questions and handling objections appropriately.
5. Manage relationships with existing member organisations, ensuring they understand and experience the value of their membership.
6. Identify opportunities to grow value within existing accounts, including movement between membership tiers or increased engagement with services.
7. Work with the Head of Membership and Finance & Business Manager to develop systems and processes that support effective relationship management and growth.
8. Contribute to the ongoing review and development of Thirtyone:eight’s membership offer, ensuring it remains relevant, clearly articulated and aligned with member need.
9. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure a joined-up member journey from first contact through to ongoing engagement.
10. Ensure staff and volunteers across the organisation are well equipped and confident to promote the benefits of membership.
11. Represent Thirtyone:eight, its Christian ethos and safeguarding mission at external events, exhibitions, networks and conferences.
Specific Responsibilities
- Line manage the Membership Officer, providing supervision, support and clear objectives aligned to recruitment and relationship management priorities.
- Work with the Membership Officer to embed an effective membership account management structure that develops member relationships at the appropriate level with key clients.
- Work closely with the Communications Manager to shape and deliver member communications that support recruitment, retention and progression across membership tiers.
- Produce regular, insightful reporting on member recruitment,retention and churn, pipeline health and activity, and performance against agreed targets.
- Ensure staff and volunteers across the organisation are properly equipped to promote the benefits of membership.
- Work collaboratively as part of Thirtyone:eight’s management team to support the delivery of the organisation’s strategic objectives.
- Identify and develop opportunities to work with partners and networks that can support membership growth and visibility.
- With the head of department and finance team to set the annual membership budget and ensure all spend is within budget, appropriately accounted for, and that maximum return on investment is achieved.

Experience in developing and embedding of processes and procedures to ensure high levels of customer service are monitored and maintained across an organisation.

Chief Executive, Cavernoma Alliance UK

Cavernoma Alliance UK is a well-established UK charity supporting people affected by cavernoma, a rare condition involving clusters of abnormal blood vessels in the brain or spinal cord.
Founded in 2005 by people with lived experience of cavernoma, we provide peer support, trusted information, awareness raising and research advocacy for the cavernoma community. We also work closely with leading neurologists, neurosurgeons and researchers across the UK to help improve clinical care, information and research for people affected.
We are now looking for a new Chief Executive to lead and be an ambassador for the work of CAUK. This is a meaningful and varied role in a small charity where your contribution will be visible. It would suit someone looking for a senior charity role with real purpose, flexibility and a close connection to the community they support.
You will be joining an organisation with a supportive Board of Trustees, a staff team that cares deeply about the community we serve, highly committed volunteers, and strong clinical and research partnerships.
We are in the second year of our five-year strategy, ‘Together For a Cure - 2025 to 2030’, and are making good progress across our priorities. The current Chief Executive is leaving after three and a half years in post to take up a new opportunity, and the charity is in a positive and stable position.
A major focus for the role over the coming years will be supporting delivery of a five-year UK-wide clinical trial starting in August 2026. This study could potentially identify the first medication treatment for cavernoma.
Alongside this, the role will focus on maintaining sustainable income, supporting high quality peer-led services through our Head of Volunteering and Member Services and volunteer team, and continuing to grow CAUK’s reach and awareness, particularly online.
We would particularly welcome applications from people with previous charity management experience, whether within a small charity or in a more senior role within a larger organisation. We are also open to applicants who can demonstrate a strong understanding of the charity sector through trustee, professional or voluntary experience.
This is a home-based role with flexibility, although there will be occasional travel across the UK, typically every 1 to 2 months, including meetings in London.

About the Role
We are looking for Programme Governance Lead to manage and oversee the successful delivery of all programmes/projects within the Programmes Directorate by establishing and leading consistent governance and assurance. The postholder will strengthen programme governance, reporting and risk management ensuring programmes are delivered by agreed methodologies and in a consistent manner.
Key Responsibilities
As our Programme Governance Lead, you will:
- Define, implement and maintain an agreed methodology for programme/project lifecycle governance.
- Chair programme/project boards and ensuring decisions, and actions are documented and actioned.
- Identify risks, issues and dependencies which are not captured by Programme Portfolio Leads. Ensure consistent risk management across projects and programmes. Proactively identify cross-programme/project risks and issues (including those not visible to project/programme leads), implement mitigations, and escalate risks/issues to the Director of Programmes and COO as required. Assess programme/project risks against the NYA risk register and update the register accordingly.
- Produce and present monthly programme governance reports at the Directorate Programme Board, providing clear portfolio-level insight (milestones, deliverables, RAG status, KPIs, benefits, and financial/resource assumptions) to enable effective senior decision-making and assurance.
- Design and run governance routines (e.g., project start-up, weekly/monthly reviews, decision logs, change control) and support high-quality papers and actions for directorate governance forums; ensure timely escalation of material risks, issues and decisions to the COO.
- Support teams to evidence compliance with funder/contractual requirements; ensure appropriate documentation, approvals and version control are in place and accessible.
- Implement and maintain a robust lessons-learned process (during and post-delivery) and ensure findings are integrated into future programmes/projects through updated standards, templates, training and assurance checkpoints.
