Smile Train is now entering its next phase of growth in the UK, with a clear opportunity to build and strengthen high-value income, particularly across major donors and mid-value giving.
Reporting to and working closely with the Director of UK Fundraising, you will manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, with significant opportunity to deepen relationships and grow supporters into higher-value philanthropy over time. This will be a hands-on, relationship-led role focused on building meaningful engagement and delivering long-term income growth.
This role offers an ambitious, skilled relationship developer the opportunity to build and grow Smile Train UK's major donor programme as part of its new five-year strategy, with strong organisational investment in philanthropy.
Working closely with a highly experienced and collaborative Director of UK Fundraising and broader fundraising team, you will contribute to developing ways of working, testing engagement strategies, tailoring the compelling case for support and working closely with colleagues in the UK and globally.

Philanthropy Lead

The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the most successful college philanthropic programmes. Clare College is celebrating its 700th anniversary this year. Accompanied by a new strategic vision for the College’s eighth century, the anniversary provides an opportunity to launch Clare’s next fundraising campaign.
The Philanthropy Lead will be in a key position to attract significant support for our 700th anniversary campaign, working alongside the Master, other senior College Officers, the Deputy Development Director and other members of the College. The post will appeal to a talented major gifts fundraiser who is motivated by the opportunity to have a tangible impact on the College’s future success at a crucial point in its history. Building on a platform of strong fundraising performance and alumni engagement, the role-holder will play a pivotal role in attracting philanthropic funding from alumni, well-wishers, trusts and foundations in the UK and worldwide. Success in this role will be transformational, not only for the College but also for the role-holder’s own career.

Clare College is the second oldest of the 31 Colleges in the University of Cambridge. Regarded as one of the most progressive and informal, Clare is renowned as a College that achieves academically at the highest levels, whilst also being welcoming, forward-thinking, and inclusive.
Located in the heart of Cambridge city centre, the College is extraordinarily beautiful and famed for its gardens on “the Backs” (the famous backs of the Colleges that overlook the River Cam). Clare’s Old Court, a Grade I listed building, is the centre of the College and is unique among the ancient Cambridge Colleges in having maintained its architectural integrity over the course of its history.
Salary and Benefits
Remuneration will be between £50,000 and £60,000 depending on experience, with the possibility of further flexibility for an exceptional candidate. There will be a four-month probationary period. Confirmation in role will be subject to satisfactory completion of the probationary period, which will include demonstrable progress towards achieving the full-year fundraising target for the role. The salary increases annually with the cost of living and will be subject to periodic review, benchmarked against equivalent roles in other Cambridge colleges.
The nature of the role requires the role-holder to be out of College, visiting prospective and current donors, at least 2–3 days per week. Attendance in College on these days is not required. Because Clare is a community, attendance in College at least one day a week will be essential. The usual hours of work are between 8.45am and 5pm, Monday to Friday (36.25 hours a week), but flexibility and some evening and weekend work are required. A willingness to travel abroad for donor and prospect meetings is highly desirable. TOIL may be given at the discretion of the line manager.

About the role
This role will reimagine what commercial corporate partnerships look like at Crisis, and play a leading role in growing our income, brand profile and audience reach through new commercial relationships across all sectors.
From our iconic Crisis at Christmas campaign and slate of high-profile events, to our new housing delivery ambitions and our life-changing Skylight services, we’re looking for someone who can identify, shape and deliver innovative new commercial partnerships strategy that includes sponsorship partnerships, new cause related marketing campaigns and brand campaigns that will transform our income.
About you
You’ll be an experienced, tenacious, results-orientated senior fundraiser who will bring creativity to building a new commercial partnerships strategy that turbo-charges our income, grow our brand profile and audience reach.
You’ll own your pipeline and, with the New Commercial Partnerships Manager, identify, build and convert new sponsorship, cause related marketing and brand partnerships that deliver real value for Crisis, and our new partners.
You’ll be motivated by the challenge of reimagining what new commercial partnerships can deliver at Crisis, and be a self-starter who confidently speaks the language of corporate marketing, brand and buying teams and external agencies.
You’ll collaborate closely with our Brand, Marketing & Audience team, our Retail, Media and Client Services teams to package up new high-value commercial propositions at pace.
You’ll be commercially savvy who can spot new opportunities for commercial partnerships that others may miss. We’re looking for someone who can adapt industry priorities, motivations and funding trends into corporate new commercial partnership opportunities for Crisis.
You’ll be experienced at identifying, pitching and successfully securing six and seven figure new partnerships, and someone who loves building networks, external relationships and influencing internally and externally to get things done.

You will also have the opportunity to shape the early development of our strategies in major gifts and wider philanthropy and contribute to this work into the future.
