About the Role 

This is a strategic, hands-on opportunity to lead our fundraising activity, drive sustainable income growth and position Metabolic Support as the leading international patient advocacy group for IMDs. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you'll shape and deliver an ambitious fundraising strategy, build relationships with trusts, foundations, corporates and major donors, and work across our small, agile team to embed fundraising principles into everything we do. The role has no direct reports but requires a collaborative, proactive approach and the confidence to work autonomously. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Develop and deliver an integrated fundraising strategy covering corporate partnerships, individual giving, major donors, trusts and foundations, legacies, community and events 

• Lead on high-value bids and build compelling donor propositions 

• Manage donor stewardship, CRM (Nutshell), budgets and board reporting 

• Instil fundraising principles across the team and maximise income opportunities organisation-wide 
   

About You 

• Proven fundraising or income generation experience with expertise in at least one area: trusts and foundations, corporates or major donors 

• Strong relationship-builder with excellent written and verbal communication skills 

• Highly organised, self-starting and comfortable managing competing priorities

What You'll Be Doing

Trusts and Foundations Fundraising:

• Research and identify prospective trusts, foundations and grant-making organisations
• Develop and submit compelling funding applications and supporting documentation
• Maintain a robust pipeline of funding opportunities up to 6 figures, supporting on 7 figure opportunities
• Work with internal teams to gather information, budgets and impact data for applications
• Achieve agreed income targets and key performance indicators

Relationship Management:

About the role:

The Senior Finance Officer is responsible for providing efficient, accurate, and compliant financial support to the charity. The role ensures robust financial controls, timely reporting, and effective stewardship of charitable funds in line with regulatory, donor, and internal requirements.

The role will require someone who can work flexibly and independently, with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate must be comfortable using accounting software and be confident and able to adapt their skills to meet the requirements of an organisation in a period of rapid growth and change.

Your key responsibilities and duties include:

• Maintain accurate financial records, including purchase ledger, sales ledger, and nominal ledger
• Process invoices, payments, expenses, payroll and other relevant journals accurately and on time
• Perform regular bank and balance sheet reconciliations
• Monitor cash flow and support treasury management
• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and year end financial statements
• Support budget preparation, monitoring, and forecasting
• Provide financial guidance and support to non finance staff as needed

About You:

To be successful as the Senior Finance Officer you will be an AAT qualified or part-qualified accountant with significant experience in a finance role preferably within a charity, public sector or not-for-profit environment.

The Head of Fundraising and Communications plays a pivotal role in shaping and driving Bowel Research UK's fundraising strategies and audience engagement initiatives.

This position is responsible for embedding and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, growing the charity’s supporter base and income, building up new and under-developed income streams and communicating effectively with their audiences to expand their reach, and encourage financial and non-financial support to deliver the organisations mission.

You will have the autonomy and scope to drive elements of your work and take ownership of your own objectives. You will be required to collaborate on decisions to shape and deliver initiatives, programmes and processes as required for each area of income delivery. 

Key to the success of this role is a strong understanding of individual giving fundraising – an area that is underdeveloped at Bowel Research UK. This role blends the strategic oversight and leadership of a Head of Fundraising role, with the hands-on expertise of an IG fundraiser. Experience across other income streams would be a huge benefit as the role leads all fundraising income streams, but experience in individual giving is essential.

The successful candidate for this role will be someone who has already operated at a senior level within a charity such as at Senior Manager level, or Head of in a specific income stream.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Head of Major Donors will play a critical role in strengthening and stewarding Mission 44’s relationships with high-value donors, philanthropists, and strategic supporters.

This role will work alongside the Chief Engagement Officer to lead the development and delivery of a thoughtful, personalised and impactful Major Donors programme that deepens donor pipeline and engagement, increases contributions, strengthens long-term relationships, and inspires continued investment in Mission 44’s mission and impact.

The successful candidate will combine exceptional relationship management skills, a solid network of donors, strong project coordination and communications, with strategic thinking.

They will work closely across fundraising, communications, programmes and leadership teams to ensure donors experience meaningful engagement with Mission 44’s work, values and community.

Requirements

MAJOR DONOR CULTIVATION AND RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT (70%) 

• Lead the organisation’s cultivation of new donors and deepening of the major donor pipeline. 
• Personally lead the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors and prospects for six/seven-figure gifts.
• Lead the implementation of Mission 44’s global major donor stewardship strategy, ensuring all major donors feel engaged in and inspired. 
• Manage and coordinate stewardship plans for high-value donors and philanthropic partners
• Build trusted, long-term relationships with major supporters through thoughtful and personalised engagement
• Develop tailored donor journeys that reflect supporter interests, motivations and impact priorities
• Identify opportunities to deepen donor engagement and increase long-term support
• Provide administrative support for the Global Growth Committee
• Work with Head of Engagement and Events to plan and deliver donor engagement opportunities at events, briefings, roundtables and programme visits to bring donors closer to our work 
• Support leadership engagement with major donors and key stakeholders
• Coordinate donor experiences linked to Mission 44 campaigns, partnerships and strategic moments
• Help create meaningful opportunities for supporters to connect with Mission 44’s mission, young people and impact

DONOR COMMUNICATIONS AND IMPACT REPORTING (20%)

• Ensure donors receive timely, high-quality communication and reporting
• Coordinate the creation of bespoke donor updates, reports and impact communications
• Work collaboratively with programme and communications teams to translate impact into compelling donor narratives
• Work with the communications team to ensure stewardship materials are high quality, aligned to brand and reflective of Mission 44’s values
• Support the development of case studies, impact stories and donor-facing content

SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT AND COLLABORATION (10%) 

• Maintain accurate donor records, engagement tracking and stewardship activity within CRM systems
• Monitor stewardship activity, timelines and reporting commitments
• Contribute to donor analysis, segmentation and fundraising insights
• Work closely with wider fundraising colleagues, communications and impact teams to deliver integrated supporter engagement
• Support senior leadership and ambassadors with donor preparation, briefing materials and relationship management

ABOUT YOU: SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL 

• Significant experience in major donor cultivation, stewardship, philanthropy or high-value relationship management
• Proven track record of managing relationships with high-net-worth individuals, philanthropists or strategic supporters
• Experience developing and delivering donor stewardship plans and engagement strategies
• Proven success in the direct solicitation and stewardship of six- and seven-figure philanthropic contributions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience producing high-quality donor reports and communications

About the role

The engagement directorate is responsible for growing awareness, trust and engagement with Breast Cancer Now - so more people get support and give support. It leads the £47m we raise annually today and our ambition to grow this to £69m by 2029/30, alongside a new £60m Campaign.

At the heart of this is a focus on relationships - using data and insight to create meaningful experiences that inspire people to give their time, money and voice. Within this, the insight & experience function sits in the high value intelligence & experience team, supporting our high value partnerships and campaign ambitions. With a focus on more holistic, supporter-led engagement, this role will help strengthen how we understand, engage and inspire high value supporters.

Working closely with the senior high value insight & experience manager, the high value insight & experience manager will help develop a consistent approach to gathering and using insight, shaping engagement across both everyday activity and campaign delivery. The role will collaborate across teams to ensure supporter-facing activity is aligned, high quality and insight-led.

The high value insight & experience manager will play a hands-on role in delivering cultivation, stewardship and recognition activity - supporting events, experiences, communications and key supporter touchpoints.
