Awards Officer - Education

Location: Bristol with hybrid working or Home based

Salary: £26,500 to £28,000 per annum

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Contract: Fixed term (up to 12 months - maternity cover)

About the Opportunity  

This is a great opportunity to join the Food for Life team as an Awards Officer – Education, supporting delivery of the Schools and Early Years Awards programmes. You’ll assess settings against award criteria, provide guidance and support, and help maintain high-quality, consistent programme delivery.

Working closely with the Awards Manager and wider team, you’ll also contribute to engagement and retention activity, use CRM data to support reporting and impact, and share insights to improve the programme.

- Manage casework support, providing direct support, advice and guidance to beneficiaries,
- Assess beneficiaries’ needs and draw on support from the regional specialist team and other providers as necessary, ensuring that support is made available in an integrated way that best meets the beneficiaries’ needs
- Support the Casework Services Manager and Head of Welfare in better understanding the needs of the beneficiaries in your area to inform the commissioning of specialist services
- Advise beneficiaries of support which may be available to them and assist them in accessing this support as necessary
- Work in close collaboration with other providers of welfare support services within the local area, developing an understanding of each other’s services to facilitate appropriate referrals and support

The role is primarily homebased and will have regular travel around the North and East Yorkshire area for meetings and visiting beneficiaries, therefore you will need to live in a location that allows reasonable travel around this area. We are looking for an Individual Giving Officer to join an ambitious and highly motivated team responsible for delivering an ambitious and growing Individual Fundraising programme.

The Role

Working alongside other officers, you will report to either the Individual Giving Lead responsible for our cause-related products or the Individual Giving Lead responsible for our gaming products. Due to the demands of the role we are looking for someone with a willingness to work flexibly with regard to working patterns when required, to support the needs of the team and the ongoing success of the programme.

You’ll be:

• Using your fundraising and marketing experience and skills to create successful campaigns and complex supporter journeys to help us grow our income and supporter engagement. (Working collaboratively with our Digital and Social Teams, as well as external media agencies).
• Helping deliver on our multi million annual plans to retain and recruit new supporters using the most effective techniques and channels, including Face to Face.
• Enthusiastically managing and delivering a range of fundraising and engagement campaigns and communications to develop and maximise support from our loyal supporters via multiple channels, including telephone, mail, digital, and SMS.
• Comfortable with figures and spreadsheets, as you’ll be diving into the data and managing campaign costs.
• Responsible for maintaining and reporting accurate campaign results and  reviews.
• Always looking out for new opportunities, using our sprint pipeline methodology (testing, solving, learning from experiments) before scaling.
• Ensuring our campaigns are fully compliant at all times.

About You

We’re looking for an individual who:

• Has great experience and knowledge of fundraising, direct marketing and project management, and can bring a real enthusiasm to the team. This role has a specific focus around supporter acquisition which includes face to face, paid digital, direct mail, telemarketing and eMarketing.
• Is fantastic at organising and prioritising a busy workload and knowledgeable of project management. Loves attention to detail and can work on several projects at once whilst thinking outside the box, as things can change quickly!
• Loves data and insight and enjoys applying that insight to campaign testing.
• Is a great all-round communicator, with both internal and external audiences.

This new team is responsible for shaping, evolving and delivering our organisations strategy for achieving our vision, mission and outcomes. Reporting directly to our new Director: Strategy, Planning and Insight, this role will see you supporting organisational planning, performance insight and evidence-based decision-making across the function. You will bring together planning, operational and performance information from multiple sources, interpret what the data is indicating, identify risks, trends and areas for improvement, and translate findings into clear reporting outputs that inform management action.

This role requires judgement in assessing incomplete or inconsistent information, determining appropriate follow-up with stakeholders, and presenting analysis in a clear, accessible and meaningful way for colleagues and managers at different levels. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to promote engagement, maintain momentum and support the successful delivery of programme objectives.

You will have experience in supporting planning, reporting, governance or performance management processes and be able to analyse management information, data and outputs to identify trends, risks and insights. You will be contracted to our Haig House hub with a minimum expectation of two days per week working in person at the hub and flexibility for working remotely/at home when not on site.

Please note that any homebased contract will not have the additional London Supplement (£4,452 per annum) included in the annual salary.

The role of Digital Officer plays a key role in supporting the delivery and continuous improvement of The Children’s Trust’s digital communications. Working closely with the Digital Manager and wider Marketing and Communications team, the postholder will help ensure our website, email marketing and other digital activity are engaging, accessible, user-focused and aligned with organisational priorities and brand guidelines.

The role will support the day-to-day management of the charity’s websites maintaining high-quality, up-to-date content with a strong user experience, alongside contributing to integrated marketing and communications activity through digital channels, including email and paid digital support. Using analytics and insight, the Digital Officer will help monitor performance, identify opportunities for optimisation and support data-driven decision making to enhance reach, engagement and user journeys.

This role requires a highly organised and detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of digital best practice, who can work collaboratively across teams and manage multiple priorities effectively while contributing to the ongoing development of The Children’s Trust’s digital presence.

Role Requirements

Website management

• Support the day-to-day running of the charity’s websites, managing updates from across the organisation and ensuring continuous improvement and development of content, layout and structure.
• Support the Digital Manager to work with teams across the charity to ensure all website content is fresh, up-to-date and in line with our key messages, style and tone of voice.
• Support Digital Manager with ensuring websites are compliant, secure, accessible, user-friendly and aligned to brand, communications and organisational objectives.
• Produce content that complies with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 – Level AA) and help promote web accessibility throughout the Organisation.
• Build and maintain online forms, e.g. donations, event entries and data capture.

Campaigns and email marketing

• Assist the Digital Manager and Senior Marketing Manager with paid digital activity on small scale campaigns, covering areas such as paid social and Google ads or search campaigns and boosted posts.
• Contribute to marketing and communications plans for campaigns and projects.
• Support with review and delivery of email communications produced across the organisation to ensure they meet brand and best practice guidelines.
• Support with the creation and management of email communications using DotDigital.
• Optimise performance through A/B testing, segmentation and analytics.

Their work is spearheaded by 1,500+ dedicated staff and volunteers who deliver a wide range of disability care, special education and rehabilitation services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, around the clock. 

To achieve their vision, they are looking for an Individual Giving Manager with a focus on acquisition to work alongside the Head of Individual Giving across regular gifts, appeals, lottery, raffle and other new products.

The Individual Giving Manager drives the recruitment of new supporters and supports the stewardship of warm audience, generating sustainable income for Shaftesbury. The proportion of acquisition focus v retention focus is likely around 70/30. 

This role focuses on maximising long-term value through innovative and impactful multichannel campaigns including reactivating lapsed supporters, optimising supporter conversion and delivering engaging onboarding experiences. The Individual Giving Manager will work on growing regular giving, cash and gaming pipelines and manage exciting projects which could include digital, DRTV, face-to- face, telemarketing, direct mail and radio. The role will provide assistance to the Head of Individual Giving with all retention activity, including cash appeals and newsletters. 

Shaftesbury is happy to consider fundraisers or officer level candidates looking to step up into their first manager level role. At present this role doesn’t line manage, so management experience is not necessary. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for fundraising, supporter journeys and creative thinking and may have experience within a UK based charity in either IG and legacies, community fundraising, corporate or philanthropy.

This role is hybrid, with 4 days per month on average at either the Gateshead office or London office. The one role is being advertised twice to ensure candidates from both geographic locations see the role within their search remit and feel able to apply.
