About the role: 

Every day in this role is different, but at the heart of it is one thing: helping people feel safer, more stable and more in control of their lives.

As a Floating Support Worker, you’ll support people living across Westminster to sustain their tenancies, navigate challenges and build the confidence and skills needed to live independently. You’ll work alongside people facing homelessness, isolation, poor mental or physical health, domestic abuse, substance use and other forms of multiple disadvantage, providing practical and emotionally intelligent support that meets people where they are.

This is a role built on relationships. You’ll work closely with clients in their homes and communities, creating support plans that feel realistic, empowering and genuinely person-centred. Whether you’re helping someone manage rent arrears, reconnect with services, settle into a new home or take steps towards work, training or improved wellbeing, your support will help people move forward in meaningful and lasting ways.

You’ll be part of Westminster Floating Support, a fast-paced and supportive service funded by Westminster City Council, delivering housing-related support to people in all types of accommodation across the borough. Working as part of a collaborative and psychologically informed team, you’ll build strong partnerships with local services and agencies to make sure clients receive joined-up, holistic support.

The role: Family Support Worker (Bereavement)

As a Family Support Worker at Addiction Family Support, you will be responsible for delivering a range of services to provide crucial emotional and practical assistance to individuals bereaved (and affected) by the loss of a loved one due to addiction. Through both individual and group support, you will offer a compassionate and understanding presence, helping people navigate grief and loss in a safe and supportive environment.

Our service delivery takes place via several methods, including taking calls on our telephone Helpline, responding to emails through our email service and delivering remote 5-Step Method informed intervention to individuals and groups via an online platform.

Working patterns are flexible and you may be expected to work on a rota basis, and we would hope to be able to offer more hours per week in time when funding allows it.

You will need to be confident in your ability to provide support via a variety of remote and digital platforms, being able to respond to immediate requests for support. You will be an active and involved member of our team and contribute to all aspects of our work to help us achieve our strategic goals and work towards achieving our vision.

Responsibilities:

• Offer empathetic and non-judgmental structured emotional and practical support to those affected by the bereavement of a loved one due to addiction (via a Helpline and 5-Step Method informed one to one and group support).
• Provide or signpost information, literature, and resources to help individuals and groups manage grief and cope with their situations.
• Facilitate or co-facilitate bereavement support group meetings, creating a safe space for participants to share their experiences and provide mutual support.
• Follow guidelines and safeguarding practices - ensuring safeguarding concerns are addressed promptly and signpost individuals to additional services where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with GDPR and the charity’s policies.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

• To support the community work of Adoption UK Scotland community support services, to plan and deliver community events, provide professionals, parents/carers, children, and young people access to information, resources, and services and to engage with families in their local communities. 

• To offer a front-line service, primarily to adoptive and kinship families, and care experienced individuals and young people, by supporting delivery and administration for activities and events, including regular support groups delivery, youth and teens/young adults, and family events. Support of events across Scotland based on resources and availability.

• Support planning, organisation of, and attendance at, in person and online events through funded projects and services to bring together adopted and care-experienced individuals and young people and adoptive and kinship families, enable peer support, build a sense of community and promote an active and supportive Community Network. 

• To respond to enquiries received via the Information and Support Service and relevant email inboxes with relevant information and/or signposting.

• To be part of the wider communities within Adoption UK Scotland, working across teams and services.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Working alongside service leads within the communities team, and with the wider Adoption UK Scotland team members to plan and deliver specific events and activities for adoptive and kinship community members, and care experienced children and young people via our E Project youth service for children, teens and young adults.

• Provide administrative coordination for community event provision, including collating event materials, gathering feedback and evaluations for reporting purposes, supporting delivery of events, maintaining records using existing required systems, and responding to enquiries via our Information and Support line and relevant email inboxes.

• Working alongside Communications colleagues and across teams to ensure promotion of events to relevant target groups 

• Attending events to promote the wider work of AUK Scotland at conferences or support groups

• To hold responsibility for administrative requirements relating to community events, including setting up booking pages, sharing information via newsletters and social media, and recording service delivery interactions, using existing Adoption UK systems and processes

• To work with colleagues in the Foundations for Families kinship support service to support delivery and coordinate activities between services where appropriate.

• To report to line manager and directors in Adoption UK Scotland relating to service delivery, including contributing to monitoring and reporting on activities.

These services provide accommodation and housing related support to people experiencing homelessness; dedicated to providing a safe, trauma informed, high quality and inclusive service to people while they are living in the hostel with the aim of working towards a positive move-on into independent housing. 

You will join a dynamic team of managers, day shift and night shift workers, taking part in the renewal of the service, helping us to provide a psychologically-informed environment and a supportive and secure place where our residents can make meaningful life changes.

What you’ll be doing as a Project Worker

• Oversee a caseload of clients and provide ongoing 1-1 support in an approachable, caring and person-centred way.
• Provide practical and personal support to clients with complex needs around areas such as housing and health. 
• Have a good understanding of a person centred approach and how to provide the right support to clients to meet individual needs, identifying personal aims and ambitions and making plans to achieve them.  
• Work with the team, external statutory agencies and voluntary organisations to ensure everyone has access to available support.  
• Continue to develop your skills further around working with clients in a holistic way - we will provide training and support to help you gain a deeper understanding of housing and benefits law, and other specialist areas through training, supervision and line management support. 

When you'll be working

You will work full time on-site on a 7‑day rolling rota, including early shifts from 7:30am, late shifts until around 10pm, bank holidays, and two extended weekend shifts in every six. Some roles also offer a 20% pay premium for hours worked between 8pm–8am Monday to Friday, and for all weekend hours.

About the role:

This role is based in Staffordshire (we have an office in Stafford or Stoke). The caseworker will work directly with children and young people across the area; with hybrid working an option after the 6 month probationary period.
