Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist care and support for babies, children and young people who are life limited or life threatened. Supporting over 750 children and nearly 1,000 families annually, Acorns is a vital lifeline for families across the West Midlands and Gloucestershire during unimaginably difficult times.

Philanthropy is a core pillar of Acorns income strategy, delivering transformational income through Major Donors, high-level Family Trusts and Foundations, alongside their Celebrity Ambassador Programme.

Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, the role will be responsible for securing gifts from high-net-worth-individuals and family foundations. Contributing to a team income target of £1.5m, you will drive the stewardship of existing relationships and cultivation of new prospects, building a robust pipeline of future supporters.

Working arrangements: Hybrid, 2 days per week at preferred location (Birmingham, Worcester or Walsall)

As Philanthropy Manager, you will:

• Report to the Head of Philanthropy and manage a portfolio of existing (4- to 6-figure) and prospective major donors and family foundations, taking time to understand their motivations, interests and capacity to give
• Support a team major giving income target of c.£1.5m through securing five- and six-figure donations and multi-year commitments
• Shape and drive new business activity to secure new high-value prospects and strengthen the philanthropy pipeline
• Leverage networks across trustees, senior leadership and ambassadors
• Develop compelling, high-quality proposals, cases for support and tailored communications that clearly articulate Acorns’ impact and funding priorities
• Deliver an exceptional donor experience and stewardship journey, ensuring supporters feel valued, informed and inspired
• Feed into pipelines, budgets and forecasts, providing regular reporting on activity, performance against targets and KPIs
• Work collaboratively across Fundraising and the wider organisation to maximise philanthropic opportunities and supporter engagement

Essential skills and experience:

• Major donor fundraising experience is necessary to be considered for this role, with a track record of managing the full donor journey from research and identification through cultivation, solicitation and long-term stewardship
• Track record of personally securing 5-figure gifts, including some from self-generated prospects and new donor relationships
• Excellent relationship-building and influencing skills, with the ability to establish credibility and rapport with HNWIs and senior internal and external stakeholders
• Experience of developing and managing donor pipelines and maintaining accurate prospect plans
• Experience of writing compelling funding proposals and impact reports
• Ability to travel independently across the Acorns region
• A proactive, self-motivated and organised approach, with the confidence to represent Acorns externally and engage effectively with senior stakeholders

Desirable, but not essential:

• Experience of securing six-figure gifts from major donors and/or family foundations through relationship-led fundraising rather than application-led approaches
• Strong track record of identifying, cultivating and converting prospective donors, with experience building and developing major donor pipelines
• Experience of working with, managing or developing celebrity ambassador relationships and engagement programmes

Purpose of the role

This role will build and grow a sustainable Individual Giving programme from a small base, developing the strategy and activity needed to significantly increase public fundraising income. The role will strengthen supporter journeys, improve retention, and establish regular giving as a core income stream. It will also lead the development of in‑memory giving and deliver two key annual campaigns, helping to create a more reliable and resilient income base. This is a hands‑on role for a proactive self‑starter who can bring focus, structure and momentum to an under‑developed but high‑potential area of fundraising. 

Key responsibilites 

• Lead and grow our regular giving programme, developing a clear plan to increase supporter numbers, strengthen retention and build long‑term value. Ensure monthly giving becomes a visible and natural part of our campaigns, events and wider communications, helping to create a reliable foundation of recurring income. 

• Plan and deliver 2–3 integrated appeals each year, working closely with Marketing to shape warm, compelling messaging. Set achievable income targets, monitor performance and embed a test‑and‑learn approach so each appeal improves on the last. 

• Strengthen and expand our in‑memory giving, ensuring supporters feel supported and valued at what can be a deeply personal time. Introduce light‑touch legacy awareness in a sensitive, values‑led way to begin building longer‑term support. 

• Create clear, engaging supporter journeys that move people from a first gift to ongoing involvement. Use insight and data to understand behaviour, re‑engage lapsed donors where appropriate and identify opportunities to develop mid‑value giving. 

• Maintain oversight of individual giving performance, tracking income against target and identifying trends, risks and opportunities early. Contribute to forecasting and planning, bringing structure and confidence to this growing income stream. 

• Work closely with Relationship Fundraisers and the Partnerships Manager to ensure activity is joined up, supporting community donors to move into wider giving journeys and making the most of opportunities such as payroll giving. Play an active role in monthly income discussions and in shaping our wider growth plans. 

• Take a hands‑on approach to delivery, from drafting copy and shaping creative to managing data selections and supporter communications. As this is a developing income stream, you’ll be comfortable building processes, testing new ideas and driving activity forward with initiative and independence. 

• Work with our Engagement team to strengthen digital fundraising, ensuring donation pages, email journeys and social content support donor recruitment and retention.

We are seeking a driven Marketing and Communications Officer with significant initiative and ability to influence through social digital content production.

In this role, you will execute the strategic direction of our communications, by expanding our reach through engaging, persuasive content. Using data analysis, the successful candidate will enhance engagement with the Nazareth Trust’s key audiences on our TNT supporter database.

You will support the Marketing and Communications Manager by researching and leveraging compelling stories that will engage and inspire activism and giving from our existing supporter database.  

An ability to develop working relationships and inspire confidence is essential. Similarly, an ability to research new media outlets. The successful candidate will be proactive in their approach working within an intercultural context where initiative will be required.

This position requires a high level of creativity, as well as the ability to use data-driven insights to write better material. The successful candidate should also be detail-focused and committed to meeting tight deadlines and expected outputs. She/he will be able to produce material which requires little or no further editing.

As part of a small UK office, the successful candidate will also provide additional and varied support as required by the Marketing and Communications Manager.

The Nazareth Trust is a Christian organisation. The Role

A highly valued role in the Secretariat Team of the Oxford Diocesan Board of Finance (ODBF) has become available due to the portfolio growth of the existing postholder.

This is an important role which combines high quality General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) advice and collegiate support, policy and practice development and hands-on case management, such as undertaking Subject Access Requests (SARs).

You will directly support ODBF staff, including training and response to queries and proactive advice and support to area teams (bishops, archdeacons and their teams) and parishes. The role provides an excellent opportunity for varied work, especially for someone who enjoys the full breadth and depth of data protection work.

Although there is no direct line management responsibility, the role requires working well in a team, supporting others with confidence in your personal decision-making. Whilst the role involves managing autonomously the full portfolio of data protection issues on a part-time basis, it sits within a friendly, high-functioning and highly motivated team, supported by the Director of Secretariat.

About You

You will embrace the challenge that such a varied role brings. With proven knowledge and experience in offering timely, high-quality advice and guidance on GDPR issues and a ‘can-do’ approach to case work, you will deliver excellent, meaningful support to the ODBF, area teams and parishes.

You will be flexible in your working style and collegiate in spirit, with confident communication skills and excellent attention to detail. You will be comfortable prioritising competing demands and in dealing with information of a sensitive and sometimes emotive nature.
